Good guest blogging communities?
-
Besides My Blog Guest, does anyone know of any good guest blogging communities?
The aforementioned, based on my few weeks of use, seems like a great community for guest blogging. Curious if any similar sites exist.

Hi Annie,
Reports from my guys who deal with such things are that life is harder on myblogguest now. With all the low quality link peddlars looking around for alternative strategies, guest blogging is high on their list. This means that lots of them have moved to the likes of MBG - making publishers more wary.

Hi Mat,
I've just started using Myblogbuest as well and so far it seems really good at connecting Bloggers and Blog owners.
Its difficult getting hold of webmasters or trying to convince them you are not going to spam them - you just want to share content and knowledge within your industry. This site seems to be a quicker way of getting hold of blog owners.
And Greg I have tried to use LinkedIn but not had much luck here. Every one wants to talk on linkedin and push out their own content (me included) but not many people actually listening!

Hi Greg,
In my experiences, direct outreach is better long term strategy than guest blogging sites. Not even do you get access to better blogs, you get a network of people who'll help promote you on social media.
It does take some months to build outreach this way, but totally worth it.
LinkedIn groups seems like a very good idea too!

Mat, thanks again for the suggestion. I've used Linked groups for other purposes, so using it for guest blogging opportunities seems like a good idea.

Not pushed it to be honest. We tend to now favour direct outreach. However look for a group called "the blog zone" - they have a guest blogging sub group. Quality level there is pretty good, but I wouldn't steam in with a "content for links" angle.

Thanks for the suggestions, Mat. Have you had any success with doing this in LinkedIn groups?

Myblogguest seems to be the stand out community for this. I haven't been able to find anything directly comparable myself. However, here are a few similar services (or at ones that overlap in some way). Quality varies... in truth some of these are quite spammy, but it's still good to know what is out there:

Also linked in has a couple of good groups for bloggers that can serve a similar function.

Are charity/sponsorship links good, bad or just useless?
Some facts: We will probably only doe this 2-3 times a year (we have hundreds of links coming in each year from organic sources). This is for a really prestigious charity website with very nice link profile from other non-profits, news organizations, and even government websites. We will get a logo on their sponsorship page, with a link back to our site. Some articles say Google considers this "buying a link" and will therefore penalize you. Or at best, this will have no effect. And here's a Search Engine Land article saying the exact opposite. $1,500 is a lot of money. So I just want to make sure I'm not wasting it -- or worse -- getting penalized.

Is it better to have micro-sites with good content or redirect domains?
I have a domain with a lot of content and it is an eCommerce site. I've just been told that we have another 12 domains that are inactive and do not redirect. I don't know what to do with them as they haven't been used for ages and do not direct or have any content (max of a DA or 4). Therefore which is better for SEO? To have really good content with perhaps a few regular blog posts on each of the 12 domains, or to redirect all of the domains to the one main domain? I would take 1 domain and put a lot of content on and optimise is.. spending a few weeks on one and then move onto another, all while posting on each blog on each domain. Thank you for any help! 🙂

Sitewide links from blogs we sponsor - A Bad Thing?
We sponsor a few blogs in our niche. As part of the sponsorship, they include an advert on the RHS or LHS of the blog page. Links are dofollow and are sitewide. Should I be concerned? Should I be asking for a nofollow instead, if possible? I've recently disavowed links and am waiting to see what happens with this - hopefully there's a Penguin update soon - but I wondered if the blog links were part of the problem.

Do follow blog roll links
Hi I found out that someone is linking to my site from their blog roll (which is a related theme), which I am flattered. She is linking to lots of others including quality blogs. I ran a back link report and I'm on 250 of her pages with a dofollow link. The anchor text is not a "money" keyword. In fact it's got nothing to do with what I do! The domain is DA38. Now, here's the questions going through my mind! Do I ask her to make them no follow? Do I ask her to remove them? Do I ask her to brand them all instead of irrelevant anchor text? Do I just disavow them? They are like having sitewide links on a site Any thoughts? SMP

Are PR releases good for Link Building?
I'm having a bit of a conundrum with Press Releases: I recently sent a press release on PRWeb (which I personally think is just "average" compared to others as it focuses mainly on the CBS network and is not focused at all unless you pay for an expensive release) and got over 100 incoming links from high PR news sites (according to Webmaster Tools) but these links had PRWeb in subtitle, so for all I know these were syndicated releases and not "Pick up By" as PRWeb reports. Will this affect Page Rank value or rankings for any keywords? Are these links treated only as temporary links or permanent back links? (I know sometimes they appear in Google News or Yahoo News, but disappear the next day) Was it valuable to the company? Our business is in health sector exclusively on East Coast U.S. and the release was seen all over the world and not one of the links coming back was from a health-related section. They were high rank online sites, but is there value in such links? added 11/30: I was reviewing competitors' link backs I found they did a lot of press releases and gained a high-level link back from each one. These were the best/highest-authority links they had. The syndicated releases were not even listed anywhere. And then I reviewed their SERPs... and guess what, their ranks increased with each one. (So I don't think "duplication" is an issue. If anything only the syndicated copies were penalized, but not the original one)

Domain name holding pages link back, good or bad?
We are a web design and hosting company http://www.spiralsites.com But when we register domains for clients, or they take email only or a name is parked we have it using a holding page which can be seen as follows: http://www.jcevents.co.uk/ is this a good thing? Bad thing? Could it would it should it benefit our rankings? Should we do more to make it look less like our main site and actually try to use it better to help rank our other services pages?

Guest Posts on Sites With Irrelevant Outbound Links
Suppose you came across a website in your niche with solid domain authority that accepts guest posts. However you notice some of the guest posts are linking out to somewhat off-topic sites. If you already have an article that you think would be accepted easily and all you have to do is spend 10 minutes to craft an email pitch, would you do it? Why?

Blogging best practice, tips, hints, advice etc (Wordpress-centric)
Hi guys, I have, for the first time, set up a Wordpress blog. I'm moulding the overall theme of it to relate to the industry we operate in. I'm new to this, so looking for any advice, help and info etc on how best to utilise it that you can offer. My initial plan is to write articles as often as possible on what's happening in the markets, and link back to our site where applicable. I'll also do content exchanges with other relevant sites (using My Blog Guest as one means to find relevant bloggers), and give access to contributors as well (felt a bit weird about doing it initially). Sound like a decent blogging strategy? Any and all ideas welcome. Thanks
