Apache Rewrite to remove page name extensions
-
If I use Apache Rewrite to remove my file extensions from my pages will Google view those pages as new? Do I have to also 301 redirect from the "page-name.htm" to "page-name"?
I'd like to change my pages from html to php to make my life a little easier but I'm worried about losing link juice if I were to 301 on every page.
Thanks

Sounds good to me, but I prefer page names without extension.
You won't need 301 then, since you will keep old URLs and there won't be that short period of time when Google might possible see "duplicate" pages.
If you need help with Apache configuration let me know.

Hi Bojan,
One thought I had was to create new php pages, keeping the same page name but using Apache to Rewrite the php to htm.
Any thoughts on this as an option?

Hi,
As stated here
http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/redirection
Using 301 redirect will preserve over 90% of your link juice. Give Google some time and it should pick up new page locations depending on your crawl rate.
As for seeing pages as new content, based on my short experience there is a period where Google will display new urls as new pages, but after a while he will realize that they have just moved. I'm not sure if there is a way to avoid this.
Kind regards

Page Hierarchy Question
I understand the basic concept of page hierarchy, i.e. parent and child pages. My question is: Should the home page be the parent of all 2nd-level pages? Can/should there only be one top-level page, the home page? In other words, is this: site.com/homesite.com/home/products site.com/home/products/widgetsite.com/home/aboutsite.com/home/contactbetter than this:site.com/homesite.com/products site.com/products/widgetsite.com/aboutsite.com/contactThanks for your opinion!

Changing of title page and description
Can I ask how long after changing the Title and Description tags on a website do people have to wait to see these changes reflected in Google? I changed a site of mine a couple of weeks back, pinged the site to google and had well over 5,000 googlebots to the page (not a result of pinging, I get that anyway), yet Google continues to display the old listing. Any secret techniques to speeding this up? Thanks

I work for an ecommerce site and we are currently in the process of redesigning our product page. Any useful, must-do tips for this? If it helps, our site has both hard goods and apparel that can be imprinted and customized to the buyers liking. Thanks for any help!

What is important for page rank?
I have heard quality is the most important factor for page rank but after the 7 Nov 11 PR update I am no longer a believer. The PR on my home page dropped from 4 to 3 and the rest of my inside pages remained the same even though I have added a significant amount of content since the previous update and kept it fresh. Any thoughts on this most recent PR update?

Too many links on a page?
On my blog posts, I have links to all the categories and months, dating back 5-6 years. This make the number of links on each blog page well over 100, which I understand might decrease the value of each page. Is there a problem with having more than 100 links on a page?
