My site is ranked in the top 5 for my keywords, but howcome I'm low in an organic search results for my key words?
-
Are the other factors such as page rank, Alexa rating and mozRank used to determine where I will show up in search results, over Goggle's key word rank for my key words?
-
OK Jeff, what are the urls associated with these? These are where you are ranking, you have to remember that if you are not using non personalized search it will be different on your machine it will be different for you than on moz
-
I was getting the Google key word ranking info from my seoMOZ campaign report. I copied these words and the Google rank from the report.
phoenix transmission                 3
phoenix transmission repair        1
phoenix transmission shop          1
phoenix transmission shops       3
phoenix transmissions                4
I guess I thought that if I ranked at a certain number for the key words that that would be where I landed in a search for these words

Don't worry about me Steve; the therapist said I will mend. It just takes time.......
-
lol sorry I see what you mean now, I'd taken it out of context a bit there instead of leaving it as comparable to the other items in the question. My bad.
-
Oh Steve I am hurt by this...
What I am saying is that since PR is a factor that is established based on Linking, relevance, QDF, etc. it will be most important on the whole predicated on the question asked. (If he works on quality content, quality linking, etc. will his page rank rise or not?)Â Â I did not say focus on PR and do not want to leave that conclusion. Let PR rise as it will with you taking care of all that affects it.
With an individual page at a moment in time, there will be other factors: recent page with a lot of traffic, etc. will often outrank other older higher PR pages. A page that is a local business that has a highly optimized Places listing will very often outrank a higher PR page without.
Also, with the question he asked it was about googles key word ranking versus serps:
are other factors such as page rank, Alexa rating and mozRank used to determine where I will show up in search results, over Goggle's key word rank for my key words?
I am thinking that he may be looking at a couple of things: he may be on one of the sites that uses the term Google in their url but are not really Google and give keyword rankings. Since I am unaware of a keyword ranking system other than a page ranking for a given keyword query, it makes me scratch my head.
So, I hope I have extricated myself from the PR is all dilemma.
Best to you
-
Agree with Steve - PR is probably not what you should focus on as it is one of hundreds of factors, rarely updated and has little to do with how you rank for specific keywords. Â Plenty of PR 0 or 1 sites rank very highly for their target keywords.
With that out of the way, maybe we need some clarification. Â You say your site ranks in the top 5 for your keywords, but your are low in organic results. Â How are you determining how your site ranks? Â Just checking in a browser can yield inaccurate results since Google will use location, and your personal search and browsing history (if you haven't turned it off, and maybe even if you have turned it off) to determine what to show you.
Do you mean you are ranking in the top 5 of search results for your keywords, but not seeing the expected traffic? Â If that is the case, take a good look at your page titles and meta descriptions. Â Make sure they read nicely to people, and aren't just a bunch of keywords. Â It may be that you are ranking well, but the results don't stand out from the competition enough for users to click through to the site.

"There are several determinants for where you will rank in Google SERP's, but the most important is PR." <-- I've gotta disagree on that
Yeah it counts but relevance counts a lot more than just juice.
Decent content + promotional effort = quantity & quality of links (combined with the decent content) = rankings.
I wouldn't think too much on the PR or you might get sidetracked into thinking about that, more than thinking about the above
-
There are several determinants for where you will rank in Google SERP's, but the most important is PR. When you say Google's keyword rank what do you mean? Alexa shows traffic and there is not a corollary per se to where you will rank. mozRank will be closer to PR than anything I am aware of.
The other issues will be recent traffic to page, local optimization as applicable, competitiveness of the vertical, etc.

I am confused/frustrated/surprised how bad my website is doing on google ranking
Hello, I am confused/frustrated/surprised how bad my website (flyhy.co) is doing on google ranking and I have no clue why even though I have been doing my homework regarding SEO. Just a bit of background, I have created a new website about 6 months ago for the paragliding community, the primary goal is to provide a platform for people to publish their ads (osclass), but also to provide some interesting reviews and tools to help paragliders chose their wing. We have been putting a lot of effort to provide a nice user experience and tio build the tools mentioned above. Our main channel to connect with the community is Facebook, and we have been quite active there. I have looked at many SEO articles and I made sure the website provides a good UX, the URLs are SEO friendly, good meta data, etc. Also have been using the google search console and analytics to monitor all of this. But here is the thing, all these does not seem to change anything in our ranking for important keywords such as "paraglider for sale", "paragliding equipment", etc. We seem to only rank (looking at Googleâs keyword tool) for very specific wing model names that people have mentioned in their ads. I have ran out of ideas on how to improve our SEO !!!!!! I know the website is only 6 months old, but by now we should get some results. As an example, I will mention one our main website competitors: www.paraglidingequipment.org. OK the URL is pretty obvious and this website ranks in page #1 for "paragliding equipment" (but also for "paraglider for sale" and other paragliding related key phrases). OK there is the URL (paraglidingequipment.org), but I thought nowadays google bots are smarter than just that. The website is 1 year old (so not really much older than us, and was ranking high anyway even 6 months ago). The website looks like it was clearly made by one person and then quickly just left it running, so no content has been added (except for people putting their ads), there is almost no activity on the Facebook account. I have run some test such as "pagespeed insights" and we both rank the same. On "seositecheckup.com", we are clearly better with more 10 points. Is there anyone out there who can tell me what is going on? Have I missed a very important aspect of SEO? Is our website somehow compromising the robots crawling (although I can see about 80 pages have been already indexed in google search console)? I know content is king, but in paraglidingequipment.org the only content I see are ads, and we have ads and other interesting (ie reviews and tools) for paragliders. To conclude, I am basically completely clueless of what to do to rank at least on the first couple of pages of google for the key phrases above. I need help. Hichem. PS: in Moz bar our score is non existing (PA=1,DA=10), on paraglidingequipment.org (PA=23,DA=15). So it looks that essentially we are not apparent on the web! PSS: We have also tried to build some backlinks on few important paragliding community websites.

Determining why an established competitor's rankings have bombed - What's the best way to go about it?
I arrived at work this morning to find my weekly SEOmoz ranking report for a main competitor waiting in my inbox. 90% of the their rankings have tanked in the last day or so by an average of 3 pages - most down from page 1 or 2 where they had been sitting pretty for ages. I'm not in a state of (total) euphoria about this because a) you should be humble enough not to gloat at your enemy's demise, and b) I need to find out what they did wrong so that I don't make the same mistake, too. **What is your first suggested port of call to determine where my (vanquished) foe has gone wrong? How much can I find out? ** I do know one thing - with OSE I can see they've used dodgy blogging services but this, to my mind, would have been jumped upon by Google last year. No? Thanks guys

How can a site rank higher when you beat them by A LOT on virtually every SEOMOZ factor?
Any insight into what's driving these results would be appreciated. Another site ranks #6 and we rank #22 on a keyword that scores 67% for "Keyword Difficulty", but we score significantly higher than them on almost every ranking factor including having nearly 10 times more backlinks along with higher PA and DA scores, etc. Here is a comparison from the Keyword Difficulty Tool report. Why do you think this site can't reach a better ranking?
Hello, My name is Pablo Lagos. We have a hosting company in Chile since 2006. All the time we have been ranked in the first page for the keyword "hosting" in google.cl. Some years ago, we used to be on the first 3 results. Since the last year our site went down to 7 and higher places no matter we do. When I run the link analysis, we have the highest punctuation in all items. I would really appreciate your comments. The site is in spanish: www.ilihost.cl Thanks.
