A very pertinent .me TLD vs. a longer, less pertinent .com domain?
-
Hey folks,
John here, first-time poster. I have a dilemma I suspect you folks have already have an opinion on, but I'm a bit stuck.
I think i have two basic options for choosing a domain name with the format of :
1. I can nab a .me with a very smooth, brandable, and pertinent/convertible and memorable domain name;
2. I can get a more obtuse sounding, less pertinent, lengthy, and less memorable .com domain.
This issue is getting the click in the SERP. Assuming the same ranking and meta description, will the smooth .me suffer worse than the rather awkward and long .com?
Is it your opinion that all other things remaining equal, will a .me suffer demonstrably over a .com
Also, I'm not terribly concerned with folks remembering its a .me or a .com for search purposes, but should i be concerned for email purposes?
Many thanks for your input!!

I own a few generic .me domains, they do not have the same level of authority that a .com domain holds but it also depends what type of business you are running. If it is a social site a .me domain may work for example.. look at formspring.me a huge social site or about.me...

Never used one myself, but Google has apparently genericized it like other domain-hack TLDs:

Theoretically this means it won't be tied to Montenegro local search, which is obviously your largest concern. Whether Google reserves some 'special sauce' for .com/.net/.org as compared to .co/.me/.tv internationally is not known.

oh, just an observation in my research on the topic - .me's pace of registration is far and away the fastest TLD after the big 3, and startups are gravitating to .me's a bunch.

Have you notice that more you spend on a Facebook boost, less you make?
On a Facebook page I manage it has been noticed or atleast argued that the more you spend on a boost for a specific day the less conversion it makes. for example: spending 10 euro/dollars on a boost would give: 160 likes, 6 comments, but by spending 40 euro/dollars would give nearly the same: 170 likes, 7 comments we have run this a few times with similar outcomes.. Any ideas or did you have a similar outcome?

Email Campaign Tracking within Domain & Subdomains
What is the best process to track conversions/visits in Google Analytics when running an email campaign that links to both a sub-domain and then the main domain? To elaborate further, we have an email marketing campaign that directs users to a subdomain (e.g. promos.website.com) within the subdomain we include our products. Once a user clicks on the promos, they are taken to our main website (e.g website.product1.com). What is the best process to track conversions from this email campaign that leads users to the sub-domain first, then to the main site (where the conversions take place)? We have URL tagging in the Email Campaign - but not able to see the true conversions show up in Analytics on the main site. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Grid view vs. List view
Hi I work on an ecommerce site and wondered if anyone had tested grid view vs. list view on product listing pages? We use list view, but I think grid view might work better. Thanks

Time to purchase vs Time Lag for business cycle data
Hi All, Using just GA is it possible to get accurate information about buying cycle duration - i.e. length of time from first interaction to purchase? Time to purchase isn't what I'm looking for as it does not include direct visits. Time lag seems off as it suggests that the majority of conversions happen on day 0 (as does time to purchase). I know that any conversions outside of the time window default to 0 but I find it hard to believe that a clothing retailer has a similar buying cycle to a furniture store. Of course I could be wrong here, I'm making a big assumption. Neither report feels very robust to use for estimating split testing duration requirements. I know that there are other methods available, by comparing raw clickstream / cookie data but I do not have this data available, nor do I have the time to get it. Any info / advice would be great. Thanks

Is it possible to set a Goal conversion tracking from a subdomain to a root domain?
Hi Mozzers, Here is an issue I am going through: I have a root domain(www.example.com) that is the core website where you are able to schedule a service I have a subdomain (sub.example.om) that is part of content strategy offering free tips and follows a different branding strategy. There are internal links from sub to root domain I have a GA subdomain tracking code installed on every page for both domains I would love to set goal tracking on GA for visitors coming to my subdomain, then going to root domain and then schedule a sevices? Is this possible? If it is, can someone show me a How To because I tried it anddidn't work? Thanks mozzers!

Does the word next to domain gives more relevancy to the page of it's URL?
Whether putting a (category or brand) word next to domain is better than on the end of an URL? (i.e. domain.com/sony/tvs or domain.com/tv/sony) Which one would get higher result on SERP "tv" or "sony" in both cases? Or maybe they both serves the same?

Page Title Tags - SEO vs CRO ?
Hi everyone, Thanks to what seems to be a recent(ish) algo change in Google, some of our more targeted deeper pages are ranking for search terms where before only our homepage would rank. This is of course great however I am a little worried that some of the page titles of our internal pages are a little short, for example our main departments (we are an ecommerce store) are titles 'Department Name | Liberty Games' so for example 'Pool Tables | Liberty Games'. I have heard varying reports on what to do with the title tag, I have heard to keep the most relevant keywords to the left of the tag, which we have done, I have also heard that shorter is better. I am just a bit concerned that our tags are looking a little stumpy in the serps alongside other results which are longer (although admittedly a bit keyword stuffed). So (eventually) my question is, will short titles harm my click-through rate ? but are shorter titles better for SEO ? If longer is better are there any recommendations about what I could add to these titles that could potentially help click-throughs and natural rankings ? Many thanks, Stuart
