What is the Optimal Guest Post Byline?
-
Hi Moz Community!
What do you think is the optimal guest post byline or bio paragraph at the end of a guest post.
Is it better to link to your homepage with your site name as anchor text AND a deep page with a target keyword phrase?
Or is it better to just use one link to a deep/money page on your site with a keyword phrase?
-
I've seen nofollow in a bio at the bottom of guest articles, it can happen
-
Sure, I highly recommend it if it's something you're able to do!
-
I'd say 2 links in the byline is typical. Some allow links to your site in the text if it provides useful information.
Targeted anchor text is great if you can get it.
Don't forget that you want to link to pages that provide useful content for the readers, too. The blog owner will appreciate that more than just seeing that you're trying to pump the post with convenient links back to your site. Instead, make the guest post and the resources it links to valuable for them and not just valuable for you.

Jeffrey,
Thanks, never submitted anything to a guest post before, but thanks for the info.
-
I'm not aware of any sites that use a rel="nofollow" for guest post links. After all, one of the principal reasons to write guest posts is to get followed links!
-
I think the quick answer is two links (if you can do that) with varied anchor text and varied deep/pages.
I'd link with your exact anchor text 1 in 5 guest posts, MAX, then I'd use variations in the other 4 w/ my brand name in the anchor in a couple.
All this depends on what you have going on currently though. If you have 500 root domains linking in to the site, with 490 of them pointing to your home page, then I'd say you need to link to a category page or other deep page on your next guest article.
Similarly, if your top 5 anchor text links coming in to your site are keywords (non-branded), then I'd use your brand in the anchor text on your next guest article.

Hi Sparkplug,
My first thought was to check to see if the guest post links had a rel="nofollow" attached to them, which by looking into SEOMOZ blog disclaimer, their Guest Post guidelines, as well as some of the code in the actual gust post page, it doesn't look like they add it (as far as i can tell). The only thing I can see that they mention is "Affiliate links are not allowed in YouMoz posts."
So it looks like you good on that, but now for your question.
I do believe its best not to go crazy with the linking, and one link should be fine that is optimized with a keyword phrase and having the link, link to page with relevant content as your blog post might help as well.
I do state again though, I'm still now sure about the nofollow... hopefully someone has some more insight on this as well.
Hope this helps!

Link Building Techniques: Guest Blogging - Is it Okay or Not?
I was reading this page here: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66356 "[...]Buying or selling links that pass PageRank. This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links; exchanging goods or services for links; or sending someone a “free” product in exchange for them writing about it and including a link." So assuming you provide high quality guest posts to high quality blogs, is it okay or not to use this method as a link building technique?

Multiple guest posts from one site have any effect on rankings?
I have started guest blogging and have sites asking me for more content. I understand that regular guest blogging is great for building authority as an author and has the potential to get more links through word of mouth and other sites linking to me. The more posts I do the more exposure I get. But if I have say 3 or 4 posts on an external site with each linking to my site (to a different url and with different anchor text) does that have any effect on rankings as all links come from the same domain? As I understand it links from different root domains are what matters. Presumably a site with links from 5 different sites with 10 links on each external domain totalling 50 links wouldn't rank as well as a site with links from 50 different domains (1 per domain)?

How to link blog posts to web pages
In past I would write blog posts and link to a static web page. The link from the blog post to the static web page would be the same keyword(s) as the web page was optimized around. With the latest Google updates, it seems like the keywords linking to the web page need to be varied, but I'm not sure what the ideal system would be?

Focus on guest blogging not working; what's the best quick fix?
I have always used strictly white-hat SEO tactics, targeting long-term results, my main focus being on quality guest blogging. I have been working on a site for around 6 months, and I started out with my keywords ranking very well, but very little traffic was coming to the site. 2 weeks ago I expanded my keyword list considerably in an effort to drive more traffic, but last week my keywords all took a nosedive. My client wants an answer by Thursday. I know there's no quick fix, but what's the best way to quickly get my rankings back up and serious traffic to the site? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Link Building by Guest Posting.... But How many posts?
Hello I am a small Computer/Tech Blogger (part time) from India and following are my Domain stats: PR: 4 Alexa Rank: 65K *** Open Site Explorer Page Authority: 46/100** *** Open Site Explorer Domain Authority: 35/100** *** Open Site Explorer Linking Root Domain: 98** *** Open Site Explorer Total Links: 1196** *** mR: 4.83** *** mT: 5.81** Domain Age: 3 Years and 4 Months Blog Posts I made: around 580 I never spent ANY time in Link Building, only wrote content for my blog. I only attached my Blog URL in some BIG forums as a signature (never meant for link building, but later found that the signature section of some forums are DOFOLLOW) and very few sites linked/links to me/my articles. Reasons why I am asking question here: Majority of my blog posts ranks very well (top 10) on Google.co.in, but on Google.com, most of them are present from Page 2 - Page 10 - I want to rank my posts well on Google.com, Google.co.uk etc. SERP of Big sites remains static, but my position shuffles a lot. Sometimes any particular blog post of mine is on first page (on a particular Google Domain) and after some days/months, it shifts to 2nd or 3rd page! This happens a lot! As soon as Google Updates pagerank, many recent articles of mine will get atleast PageRank 2 or 3, but when pagerank in updated again, the pagerank of these very same articles drops! Very few articles of mine have static pagerank I am not a master in Computers/Tech and am not the first one on the internet to discover and write something UNIQUE/NEW, but I try to write detailed and good quality tutorials. If main keywords of my posts matches with the keywords of BIG domains, I never rank on first page, no matter I have written more detailed content compared to the content of these BIG sites! Google sends me traffic to majority of my blog posts by means of random keywords! I have decided to do Guest Posting on some blogs of similar niche and with Open Site Explorer Domain Authority ranging from 60 to 80. I will try my level best to write good content for them and they also allows Author Bio with a backlink to my Blog Homepage (in my case, the anchor text for this link will be my Blog Name) I want to ask following questions: Is one guest post with a backlink to my Homepage is enough? or I have to write more content for same domain? I have heard that, if you link to a website/blog which is linking to you, Google don't pass any juice to either of them because of reciprocal linking! - Is this true? The websites on which I am planning to do guest posts are very well established and trusted websites. Some of them have Open Site Explorer Domain Authority of 80+. Also, I never linked to them nor I am planning to do so! I request SEO Gurus here to please help me and I apologize in advance if I am wrong at any point. MY SEO concepts are not much clear and I am a newbie 🙂 Thanks and Regards

How to Outsource Guest Blog Posts?
We have operated a small ecommerce company for over 10 years in the home and garden industry. Our product niche is small and there is not a lot of "community" around it as it is just not a social product, yet the product is interesting. Our internal time is very limited and therefore we have hired external help over the years to do our SEO. As you all know, this is very challenging to do affordably and not get spammers. As part of our SEO strategy we would like to do some guest blog posts but do not have the internal time to research and build the relationships needed. We basically have no internal writing skills and have always hired writers to do our blog postings. My question is if you had to hire someone to do guest blog posts how would you go about finding the right person to use? Of course an excellent writer would be required. What would you expect to pay for this type of service? Would you do it hourly or "pay per live post". Any ideas on where to find this type of person? Thanks.

Why Post Useless Blog Comments
I notice that I'm getting a lot of spammy blog comments on a personal interest site. Why would someone go to all that trouble to get a nofollow link that will most likely not be approved?
