Anchor text internal links
-
Hello,
I read about a practice (also suggested by EasyWP SEO plugin) whereby I should place on my current page (call it page A) an internal link to another page (call it page B) using as anchor text the keywords I want page A to rank for.
I dont really understand this and it is a cause of great confusion in my head...
Can someone explain this to me and why this would be good practice? I would have thought that having as anchor text to page B a keyword I want page A to rank well for would steal juice from page A and give it to page B?
Or am I missing something else?
Thanks !

You should always (by always I mean whenever possible) use the keywords in the link to your site, regardless of whether they are coming from the external or internal source.
There is a very good example of how much it might help with your SEO campaign.
If you type in Google 'click here' you will find that top of the list is Adobe Reader download page. The reason why it ranks so well for this, rather unusual keyword is because many websites, which offer PDF download also put the sentence saying something along these lines:
"...click here if you haven't got it already installed on your computer...'
where 'click here' is the text of the link to the Adobe's page with the Reader download.
Now - when you put a link on page A to page B - you give the keyword credit to page B, but also page A, because the keywords actually appears within the content of page A as well as points to the other one. I might be a bit confusing, but at the end of the day you are building a keyword rich website.

Personally I would prefer to link TO a page with the keyphrase I wish that page to rank for, ideally from in-content of a relevant page/paragraph (whilst trying to avoid 'keyword cannibalism'! (unless it is intentional, as can sometimes be done to gain multiple page 1 positions!).
There are other things that you can do similar to what you describe above, but in general, I feel it is more useful and effective to link with the phrase/anchor that you wish a page to rank for, pointing TO that page, not FROm that page.
It is sometimes a good idea to cross link with related anchors (to other pages) - have a google search for seo silo also, as that can shed some light on internal linking stratergies (not everyone agrees, or uses SEO silo's, but there is good info to gain from researching the topic, whether you use it, or not!).
Cheers!
Mike.
Ps. Although those are my opinions, I am looking forward to reading what other folks think too!

no you are correct, the link text of in-comming links helps with ranking fopr the linked page, not the linking page

Tooltip text
Will adding tooltip text to al my links improve my rankings? I read some article, but it's a hell of a job to add tooltip text to al my links. i was wondering if it's worth the time: A tooltip text appears if the mouse hovers over the image or a link and is provided by using the TITLE attribute. A description of the image or the link then appears in the tooltip in a small yellow box (Internet Explorer). The TITLE text (tooltip text) gives a short description of a link or image. The difference between an ALT text and the TITLE text is that the ALT text is a short description that replaces the image if the image does not load. The number of links (internal and external) and images must be equal to the number of tooltips for every page. The number of TITLE text can be higher because ALT text can also be used for other HTML elements. Add Title texts to links or images for those which do not have them yet. Thanks!

Nasty links
Hi My first q on here (hoorah!), and it's about links (boo!). I've got what appears to be a handful (but worryingly, increasing in number) of links pointing to my site like this: http://condos.mrgulffront.com/florida-condos-for-sale/320-scenic-gulf-drive-miramar-beach-fl-32550-mls-567591/ I've made contact with the sites concerned, and had only one positive response who flatly denied all knowledge of it. The issue (as far as I can see) is that as in the above example the links (on the bottom right in the grey box) are forever changing so not always visible. Can anyone offer any guidance as to these kinds of nasty links.... I'm right at the v beginning on this "path of seo understanding" so please don't assume prior knowledge! Thanks in advance.... tom

Internal Linking Questions
Hello, here are my questions. 1:Should I be internal linking back to my home page from every subpage or lower page on my site. Or, is that going overboard? 2: If i'm internal linking back to a page with an anchor text that has no relation to the page, will that pass less relevance? So for example lets say the current page is about mazda cars. Then, I link to a page about ford cars with the anchor text Mazda cars that would pass less relevance, right? Thanks for your help

Exact match anchor text is negative signal?
Hi all, I am wondering if the exact match anchor text is 100% negative signal after the penguin. I mean even from relevant sites and natural use. During the last 2 weeks I see negative SERP changes and I start to think that it is because exact match keyword anchor text is used. I also use some other anchor texts along with it all the time.. but now I think of using 100% exact match anchor free links. Does anybody have similar observations? Thank you in advance.

It is already happening on social networks if you are active there, but what about on your website. What are your thoughts on the following ? Google's job is provide the most relevant results to surfers online, and looking the link profile of a site & the page itself is the key to determining which page to serve on plate to the surfers link query ! The idea... is to apply old school networking / relationship building alliances to get targeted traffic to my site that can actually benefit from my services. How Do We Achieve This I become a editor for approving resource links for me site, only the best will be placed on my site as a resource. Build a valuable tightly themed categorized resource section with related non competing resources that can help my sites visitors find what they are looking for, send visitors to non competing resources that may purchase their services which helps me build a relationship with them, and may can with rankings as well, provided I am selective with my qualification process. Questions & Concerns Below : What should I be thinking about when creating a resource categorized links page How many outgoing do follow links should I allow from this links partner page How will this links resource page affect my own SE 1st Page Rankings and is it worth it based on getting targeted traffic Any pros / cons I may be missing here0
