The format for image SEO
-
Hi there.
After looking at a few SEO videos relating to image SEO it seems important to ensure images are SEO'd just as well as pages. I however have a question.
If the page is Meta titles the following:
Online for Equine | Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Ladies Breech
And this particular page contains five images which are each variants of this product, how is it best to SEO them?
Would you go with the:
Online for Equine | Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Ladies Breech Front
Online for Equine | Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Ladies Breech Back
Online for Equine | Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Ladies Breech Side
and so on...
Or would this result in keyword stuffing with Google's new over-optimisation rules. Would it be better to rename them so they are all individual?
I am considering deleting the images, renaming them on the server as the SEO proof name and then re-uploading them so the Image caption = filename.
Am I on the right track?
If you need the page:

Hi Victoria,
I wouldn't use names like 'Online for Equine | Horse Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Jodhpurs'. They are what your web page titles should be like (be aware the recent over-optimisation changes Google is making though).
Your image names should all be different and should be a couple of words long, just like i suggested before. So this could be:
'Riding Clothing'
'Equestrian Breeches'
'Equestrian Clothing'
Try to make sure the image names are in context though or you're in danger of being penalised by Google.
Another thing to look into is creating an image sitemap. This can help a lot with your image SEO.
Matt.

Thanks Matt,
All sound advice, so would you use completely alternate names for each image:
For example:
Online for Equine | Horse Riding Clothing | Just Togs Latina Jodhpurs
Online for Equine | Equestrian Wear | Just Togs Latina Breeches
Online for Equine | Equestrian Jodhpurs & Breeches | Just Togs Latina Jeans
Thanks for the advice

Hi Victoria,
This would probably be seen in a bad light by Google so I wouldn't recommend this.
Image SEO has several things that affect it. One factor is the filename of the image, another is the alt attribute, and another is the text around it.
Make sure that you name your image with a relevant keyword, for example, 'Riding Clothes', then you can also name the alt attribute this. Next, any text that wraps the image, try to make sure that it is related to the image. For example, use semantically similar words, like 'some of the riding clothing that is...'.
This will help you're images rank well.
Hope this helps.
Matt.

SEO rank down 35%
So I recently switched from an Opencart website to a Magento 2 website and my rank has dropped by 35% two weeks later, this is bad news. My old Magento website was 5 years old and was in desperate need of an upgrade, hence the Magento 2 site. I realised today that the canonical URLs on my stores were set to the individual stores as opposed to one store, thus I expect resulting in duplicate content issues (even though Google Webmaster Tools didn't show it). I'm just wondering if anyone else can see something I may be missing? My sites are: thespacecollective.com (primary) thespacecollective.com/us/ (canonical to primary) Thank you!

Problem with SEO for my Image based website.
My website focuses on movie posters. I'm having a little debate on what is the best way to have images linked to. The current image location is stored like this: /movie-name/poster-1.jpg

/movie-name/poster-2.jpg Is it best to leave it like that or change it to : /movie-name/movie-name-poster-1.jpg
/movie-name/movie-name-poster-1.jpg The reason I ask, is that I read today that Google uses the image name to help detect what the image is about. At the same time, if the movie name is the in folder structure, along with the image name... wouldn't it start to look like keyword stuffing?0 -
Changing Servers + Effect on SEO
Hi, I am currently with a very slow server. Our website takes quite a while to load, FTP is very slow and content changes with Wordpress are slow because even the database connection takes a lot of time. However, my website ranks very well. Traffic has doubled in the last year. Our domain has been registered with this company for over 10 years. I am wondering if changing to a different hosting provider would have an effect on my rankings due to the change in IP.

Technical SEO issue
Hi Everyone, I have encountered a major issue in one of my clients website(kitchen appliance website). This client has 2 main websites (A & B) linked with each other representing 2 different categories of appliances. We are trying to create some brand pages that this store carries. One brand page has been created and when searching for it on SERP, the results found should be under URL A but it is under URL B. I don't know what is going on? Can someone explain me what happened? Thank you,

Sitemaps. When compressed do you use the .gz file format or the (untidy looking, IMHO) .xml.gz format?
When submitting compressed sitemaps to Google I normally use the a file named sitemap.gz A customer is banging on that his web guy says that sitemap.xml.gz is a better format. Google spiders sitemap.gz just fine and in Webmaster Tools everything looks OK... Interested to know other SEOmoz Pro's preferences here and also to check I haven't made an error that is going to bite me in the ass soon! Over to you.
