Has anyone got any hotel (small) web marketing tips or tricks
-
I have a client who ranks well for his boutique hotel both in Google search and Google places. The problem now is he needs to fill his rooms next week (type of thing).
We are down the Google Adwords route already. But clicks are super expensive (competing against the big hotels).
We have also been trying to get his social media rolling and have started a light ad campaign on FB but I can't see clicks translating into our Google analytics account. (so not sold on it but is a lot cheaper than Google adwords)
Next on the list is email marketing which we be getting ready for next week to his existing database.
And we have been thinking about paid Press Releases but not sure if its worth it. (PRWEB or Prnewswire)
One big bonus is he got a number 1 award on Tripadvisor a few months back (which radically spiked hits on site). So, a more long term solution is to approach media directly with a follow up story to the award but that's going to take a bit of time.
Anyone had any experience with hotel marketing?
Any insights would be great.
Thanks

To be honest we aren't even going for top spot. The clicks just work out super expensive. He is competing with major hotels, whereas he has a styling 8 bedroom boutique hotel in a major tourist destination. But I'm going to change up the adwords ads a bit as you said. Thanks for the input.

Hi Andy, I shall be looking into your suggestion today. Thanks for that. Much appreciated.

Hi a very big percentage of my client base is in the hotel business; you said that your adwords costs are very high and I was wondering why that is. Are you trying to achieve the very top spot? That's unnecessary because in the hotel business people don't choose the first hotel they come across they shop around so even if you are floating around 6th place your're still going to receive a high number of clicks, but on the plus side they won't cost so much.
If your client needs to fill rooms quickly (a request I get from my clients on a regular basis) we tend to change the wording of the advertising to attract last minute travellers; people who go bargain hunting by signing up to a last minute offer for hotel rooms and flights.
I don't know if your client is willing to go down this route of attracting the last minute traveller but if he wants clients by next week that's the only way he's going to do that.
Hope this helps

In the Google Places listing the 'categories' are mega important but under-used. If they arent using all 5 available categories they are missing out on serious traffic.
Most hotels will just have 'hotels' or 'self catering' (i forget the exact default options). Use ALL the categories to rank for more terms. If they need traffic pronto add 'spring break', 'mothers day' 'weekend break' 'last minute break' categories - you get the idea. This is an awesome trick I use for a holiday cottage client e.g. I use 'christmas break' 'easter break' 'dog friendly' and other out of the box terms as categories to keep pace with seasonal demand.
Note: Google will not always listings for ALL category entries, you'll have to try it and see.

Instagram for small manufacturing business?
Hi all, We're a small business based in the UK that manufactures a range of PVC strip curtains and rubber site safety products. We have a presence on twitter, facebook, LinkedIn & google+... I've been considering Instagram for a little while now as I know we would have plenty to post (strip curtains are seen in multiple industries, it'd be great to post unusual applications that we've supplied to...) but I'm wondering what experience anyone has had with Instagram in an industrial manufacturing business... Is the audience there or would it be a waste of time for us? I've briefly looked through # but I'd like to know first-hand experiences!

Multiple Google+ pages when entering new foreign markets?
We are a medium size business on our way to expanding to new countries. Right now we have one Google+ account in Denmark. When expanding to more markets outside of Denmark, should we then set up a Google+ page for each country? Or is it better to stick with the one we have? Thanks in advance!

Loop-hole to Google's Penguin update? Anyone else have some input?
So I have this theory and I’m wondering if anyone else has some input. I believe I have found a loop-hole to Google’s Penguin update. Let me explain. I work for a pretty competitive party planning company. Our biggest competitor for search is also our bread and butter to our company, our consultants. In addition to outside competitors trying to manipulate business from those consultants. Anyways, one of my top priorities is to not only rank for multiple pages on our site, but to also have our social sites rank on the first two pages. Recently I have watched a spamming MLM YouTube video review of our company crawl up the YouTube charts and out rank us for our Company name in YouTube search. And now, this week, the video has crawled up to rank 3rd behind our main site and Wikipedia for our brand keyword! So how does a YouTube video that is simply a review out rank us for our company name in our social platforms? Mind you he is also outranking our core social sites of which we have thousands of comments and interactions on per day? Looking at all of the metrics of the video, according to how I believe ranking to work in Youtube, there is no way this guy should be ranking as high as he is. The video has a decent amount of copy, it has fewer than 10,000 views, 76 thumbs up, 5 thumbs down, fewer than 2,000 subscribers and his channel only has 12 videos. It wasn’t until I was looking at our search results in Seomoz that I realized what this guy was doing to move up so quickly in rankings. He has 1,671 linking root domains to his video. He has been building excessive links to this video on Youtube. Well, since Google isn’t going to penalize its own website, the old technique of excessively building links to one page… seems to be working. Has anyone else come across something like this? Where building excessive links to a video or other social platform substantially has increased rankings?

Anyone have any experience with freelance graphic designer sites?
I'm wanting to get a few things designed for our site, and I was curious if anyone has any experience using any of the companies online where you can hire graphic designers. It looks like a lot of these companies use people over seas, and although some of them are talented, I don't think their styles are the same as I'm used to here. (Hope that doesn't sound bad...I'm not meaning it like that.) Does anyone have any suggestions for a good company to use online? Thanks.

Has anyone had success with product page rel=author? Can I protect the content but dump the face on the SERPS?
Hi, Is there a way to get the benefits of rel=author for protecting site content but to disconnect that from the face photo on the SERPS? We added rel=author to our unique and individually written product descriptions and reviews. This has led to a decrease in click thru thus far. I suspect this is because when searching for a product to buy the user sees the face and thinks "review" or at least "not corporate". I don't nec. want to dump rel=author in the sea yet for our ecom pages, has anyone had success with product page rel=author? Four our keywords, we are the only company of 10 well known travel sites that have the face in the SERPS, far from improving our CTR, it has trashed it. Any ideas?
