Need advice on google adsense positioning
-
Hi my site www.in2town.co.uk gets a few thousand visitors a day but i am having trouble making any money from google adsense and this is because i am no good at advertising or understand it.
I have tried many formats and i just cannot understand the correct way to do it and would really like some help and advice in what i am doing wrong.
Would really love to see some magazines that do google adsense to see where i am going wrong.
Here is one page from my site with google adsense
and here is another example
If anyone can please help me understand what i am doing wrong please, then that would be great.

Diane,
I suggest you work on the content and make it more readable. The first paragraph is likely to turn off some readers and make them leave the site without clicking on any more articles or any ads. Take a step back and read the following out loud and see if it's something you think will encourage a reader to stick around.
Payday Loans company Wonga who have been at the centre of a lot of controversy since they launched their pay day loans company are now expanding their business to target the small business owner where they are going to target small businesses who are struggling and offer them instant cash.
Also, that article just doesn't seem to fit in. When I look at the header of your site, I see LIFESTYLE in all caps and a picture of a woman. Subheads are about health for men and women, gastric band hypnotherapy, gossip, holiday reviews, etc. One of the articles on your sidebar appears in numerous places on the web (duplicate content).
You need content that people will want to read long enough for them to even notice the ads. If the content turns people off, they're going to close that browser tab, and all the positioning in the world won't make a difference.

thanks for that. still researching to make the page look good for people reading it and making it so people can see the adverts, very bad when you have no experience in advertising
this is my latest two attempts

Check out this. Hopefully should help.

i have been trying to find a good example of a blog or online magazine but even though i have been through lots of them i cannot see a good example
-
You're welcome.
Ad positioning and strategy really is dependant on your intentions. Personally, I won't even stop to read content on a blog that inserts ads within the body. I perhaps would think one Adsense block at either the top or the bottom of the article body would be deemed bearable but anymore than that, you run the risk of getting flagged at Google for low quality / poor ad to content ratio potentially.
-
many thanks for this. do you agree with google adsense where they show the layout as having a google adsense add above your heading as i have not found this to work.
how many google adsense adverts would you have within the content. i am going to try and use images and text, and see which works but i think the images will work better as per your advice.
many thanks for this

Firstly, the first thing to do is try to keep all advertising below the fold (that means below the visible section of your page when you first land on your website).
If you're already offering advertising in the side menu and header, is there really a need for Adsense within the content body as well... twice? If you wanted to utilise both an independent ad network as well as Adsense, I would extend your onpage content, ensure the non advertising content is of a much larger ratio than your ads.
Typically, ads are seen a mile off and won't be clicked on that much these days, you may find that switching to image ads rather than text ads within Adsense delivers a higher clickthrough from your visitors - at least these aren't as obvious as the Adsense text ads.
Subtlety is the key here, play around with colours, layouts and formats until you find an approach that works best with your website content and your target audience. Never try and trick your readers either (by disguising ads).
There is no right or wrong way when it comes to website advertising but don't expect it to generate a large revenue stream overnight, you need to keep content extremely on topic and relevant to maximise the relevancy of displayed ads from the ad network(s).

i have studied so many different sites that have lots of ads so i am not sure what i should be doing, i do not know how many ads to display to a page.
I want the site to be user friendly, i want people coming back and we must be doing something right because our traffic is very high but we are not getting clicks on the adverts.
i have played around with the adverts so many different times so i am not sure what i am doing wrong. as mentioned, i have no experience with advertising

What are we looking at? I can see Adsense ads on your website so how are they not displaying as you're expecting?
Personally, I would say your website contains too many ads too. This will likely affect your rankings in search engines but also lower the value of your pages plus deter visitors.

Issue with a particular command of robots.txt! Help needed!
Hi all,I'm facing a strange issue with a website: www.foodmood.itI've written this robots.txt: www.foodmood.it/robots.txt in which I'm using all commands I've tested and used on other websites. The problem is that this website is not indexing correctly, and my fear is that I've written the robots in a wrong way.In this forum I've been taught that this command Disallow: /*? should be substituted with Disallow: /? in order to be sure the crawler is not indexing all the URLs containing a question mark.My question is: do you think this command modified in the above way can cause a problem to my website?I repeat that I've used it on several sites and this is the first time I'm having this kind of problems. Thanks in advance for your help.A.

Adwords Remarketing Advice - Low Traffic Pages
Moz, I am just looking for a little advice if anyone has any experience with Google Adwords and remarketing in particular, I am currently looking through the Adwords help pages to gain a better understanding of how Adwords remarketing works, from what i gather this can be a really useful resource to use in certain industries and i have a lot of ideas and scenarios where i think this could work really well, I am just trying to get a good understanding of the how remarketing lists are built up, Using Rule based targeting for visitors that have visited a specific page that gains roughly 1200 unique visits every 60 days, so i have set the membership duration to 60 days, So if i use the visit of this page as a rule for my list, then in a little less than 60 days time then my custom ads should start appearing to these previous visitors ? My Question Am a right in thinking the remarketing list is like a funnel, once 1000 visitors are added to this list/funnel then my ads will start showing, but then as those visitors in the funnel have reached the 61st Day they will be removed, and replaced with the new visitors being added to the list for that day ? Aslong as my list remains above 1000 visitors it will continue to show, but if i were to drop below 1000 visits within that 60 days my ads would not be visible ? so i would need to potentially extend the membership period if this happens ? Apologies as i really struggled to explain this question as best as i can 🙂 Hope someone can drop me a quick comment and straighten this out to ensure that i am on the right track and i am understanding this correctly 🙂 Thanks a lot James

Advice and recommendations for ecommerce CMS
One of my clients uses oscommerce as the CMS for their ecommerce websites. I think it it quite dated and inflexible for layout and design purposes. We have been looking at Woocommerce plugin with Wordpress as an alternative. Client has the following minimum requirements: 1. Ability to Manually enter and edit existing orders/ 2. Export Orders and Sales Tax Information to QuickBooks etc. 3. Sync inventory with Quickbooks POS. 4. One Page Checkout 5. Ability to either send out directly or through third party integration, a email marketing service to customers. 6. The site needs to be SEO'ed thoroughly so SEO is a top priority. Anyone have any experience with Woocommerce? So far, Woocommerce looks pretty exhaustive, but I am unable to contact WooCommerce for support unless I purchase their theme or extension plugins. Thoughts, advise, recommendations?

Google Analytics: Do 'Goals' actually work?
Hi, Hoping someone can clarify this for me. I've set a goal up whereby the rule is to pick up all pages with "Thank-you" in the destination URL (regular expression). So, when someone fills out a form, it will count as a lead. I'm about 8 weeks in to the campaign now and measuring the last 4 weeks I've had a total of 30 goals completed. I have two issues with this and I really hope someone can help clarify: Using a custom report I can see that I've actually had 52 Visits to the Thank-You pages, 49 Unique Visits and 60 pageviews. Where is Google getting the goals from? I have 51 leads in my inbox from the campaign so far. So, much closer to the above stats in the custom report than in the Goal report. Why is this? Thanking you in advance!

Testing Google Tag Manager
Is there a way to test if the Google Tag Manager is set up correctly? Am I right in thinking that the only code that will be output on the page will be the actual embed code, eg: SCRIPT REMOVED Cant work out if there is an issue with what has been set in the account of if there is a problem with how the code has been added to the page..

How do I get Google to rank the right page?
My site ranks #1 for Arabic Interpreting on Google UK. This great, but it's ranking my home page rather than the my specific Arabic Interpreting page. The home page shouldn't really rank for this term as it has very little connection with this exact term. This means that while the site ranks great, the conversion is pretty much zero. How can I get Google to rank the page I've optimised for this term? I know the ranking will no doubt slip but may the conversions will be better. Can you help please?

Is it advisable to use meta refresh for Google Website Optimiser?
We'd like to track conversions using Google's Website Optimiser, but the conversion page is hosted on a different sub domain so Google won't allow us to use this as the conversion page. The plan was then to add a blank page on the original domain that contains Google tracking code and a meta refresh to the page on the sub domain. We would then block this page in the robots file so Google doesn't try to index the page with the meta refresh. Does anyone see any harm that may come of this? Or any other way around the issue? Thanks in advance
