Link building using a contest
-
Hello,
In the past we have ran many contests with aims such as increase facebook likes, twitter followers, newsletter subscriptions etc but I was wondering if anyone has had any success in gaining links through a content and if so how did you set it up?

Thanks for the response!

Yes, I did run a content link campaign for one of my PSD to HTML service website, and got good success. We just asked people to write a piece of content for us on their blog/website (genuine website/blog) and share that content with us via Twitter/facebook as a proof that you've wrote something about us and have published as well with a backlink.
In return we had offered them to HTML their design files.
This campaign was beneficial for us in many ways
-
first we got some positive reviews from genuine people (Google Just LOVE Positive Reviews)
-
Got natural/genuine one way backlinks
-
got social media exposure/buzz/mentions as we were accepting entries through FB/Twitter only
-
We also got social votes/ links and new followers, as we asked them to stay tuned to next offer
-
We got a few new clients who liked our job (most important) and got huge repeat business

Is tiered link building a good thing?
I think that I have watched all the webinairs and online courses available on the web, but I still don't seem to know how and where to get links from. I know what type of links I should be getting and what type I should be avoiding, but that little luck so far. I came across the website of Matthew Woodward about tiered link building where he explains how to do this type of link building in depth. It seems quite interesting but also a lot of work so I don't want to invest my precious time in something that will be penalised by Google in the near future. Is there anyone that can give me some reason why I should or shouldn't do this?

Link Building - Drawing a blank
I've been trying to get backlinks for one website for the past 2 weeks and it's proving almost impossible. Initially I drew up a list of websites that would be suitable to have a link on and tried e-mailing a contact on each. However, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Most are coming back saying I can add some content but they will charge. However, we don't have a budget. I've analysed competitor backlinks and they didn't reveal anything interesting. The website doesn't have a Twitter account. So I can't look for links that way. Another problem is that the website has a very niche audience and probably not the most active online. Does anyone have any other tips that would help?

Contest Page Generating Links
My company is in the middle of a big contest that is generating thousands of backlinks pointing to the contest page on our domain. How do you suggest best using this authority we're building up with these backlinks to spread it to the pages we'd like to rank for, especially after the contest is over and we take down the page?

Best link building activities to increase velocity.
I'm running my own web based company selling security software. I'm a one man band and do the programming, web design, SEO etc. all myself. I've taken a very white hat approach so far and spend all my time writing guest posts and getting them published on tech blogs (I get 3-5 links per week doing this). The only tool I use is Buzzstream and I've been doing this for about 6 months now. I'm starting to see a few results but whenever I look at my competitors I see they have links from thousands of root domains. I feel like I need to increase my link building velocity with a new activity which will yield a much greater number of links than I am able to create using my guest posting strategy. I'm not keen to start spamming article directories or any other short term activity. I dedicate about 8 hours per week to SEO and I could afford to spend around $700 per month if necessary. Any help would be much appreciated.
