What tool can i use to get the true speed of my site
-
hi, i am trying to get the true speed of my site. i want to know how fast www.in2town.co.uk is but the tools that i am using are giving me different readings.
http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/DkHoNWmZh/www.in2town.co.uk says the speed is 1.03s
http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2town.co.uk/i4EMDk34 says my speed is 2.25s
and http://www.vertain.com/m.q?req=cstr&reqid=dAv79lt8 says it is 4.36s
so as you can see i am confused. I am trying to get the site as fast as possible, but need to know what the correct speed is so i can work on things that need changing to make it faster.
can anyone also let me know what speed i should be working for.
many thanks

Hi ryan
I use tmd hosting, and what they provide for me is, they when required upload a template that i can then work on to the hosting package, if the site goes down for whatever reason they sort it out straight away (although it is something they have done but not happened for two years),
I spent six months trying to find a uk host but could not find one. I spoke to many of them and they were not offering the service that i required. I was thinking about 1and1 but they did not offer many services so until i can find a decent uk host i am stuck with the old host, but i am still looking as my target audience is in the UK
-
Correct. Your site should load fastest in areas closest to your web server.
If you are specifically targeting the UK, I recommend you take another look at locating a UK host. What is your criteria for a "good" host?
-
just tried this tool http://www.alertra.com/spotcheck_do and it seems my site is slower in the uk than in america. tried it on a few tools and found that my site in america comes up on average of around 1 second while testing it from london comes in at around three seconds, which is not great as my site is aimed at the uk.
This is down to my site being hosted in america as i could not find a good uk hosting company.

Sorry about that, I should have looked, was in a hurry...the good news is I found the one that I love!
http://www.selfseo.com/website_speed_test.php
Again, the main reason I like it is because I can put in my own website 10 times, so that it's not a fluke if it's slow/fast at a certain time...
-
My preference is Alertra: www.alertra.com. It's free and easy to use.
It checks from 6 points in the US and 1 in the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and China.

hi tried using the website above but when i press continue nothing happens

See all these external resources but do not see a mention of using Google Analytic's site speed reporting which is within your GA dashboard. See you use GA for this site, so take a peak in there and see what it is showing you.
-
Well, they're all going to be at different locations, going through different routes to get to your site. It can also make a difference what is the load on your server at the time. I like to use one that allow for multiple URLs like
http://seobyindia.com/tools/website_speed_test.php (just found on google, couldn't find the one i've used in the past)
This way you can get a good picture by doing 10 tests in a row...average them then there ya go. I had to do this when we moved servers to get an idea of the speed increase we received.

Getting 'Indexed, not submitted in sitemap' for around a third of my site. But these pages ARE in the sitemap we submitted.
As in the title, we have a site with around 40k pages, but around a third of them are showing as "Indexed, not submitted in sitemap" in Google Search Console. We've double-checked the sitemaps we have submitted and the URLs are definitely in the sitemap. Any idea why this might be happening? Example URL with the error: https://www.teacherstoyourhome.co.uk/german-tutor/Egham Sitemap it is located on: https://www.teacherstoyourhome.co.uk/sitemap-subject-locations-surrey.xml

Hi I'm currently updating an old (8 years old) html site to wordpress and about a month ago I redirected some url's to the new site (which is in a directory) like this... Redirect 301 /article1.htm http://mysite.net/wordpress/article1/

Redirect 301 /article2.htm http://mysite.net/wordpress/article2/
Redirect 301 /article3.htm http://mysite.net/wordpress/article3/ Google has indexed these new url's and they are showing in search results. I'm almost finished the new version of site and it is currently in a directory /wordpress I intend to move all the files from the directory to the root so new url when this is done will be http://mysite.net/article1/ etc My question is - what to I do about the redirects which are in place - do I delete them and replace with something like this? Redirect 301 /wordpress/article1/ http://mysite.net/article1/
Redirect 301 /wordpress/article2/ http://mysite.net/article2/
Redirect 301 /wordpress/article3/ http://mysite.net/article3/ Appreciate any help with this0 -
Will a blog post about a collection of useful tools and web resources for a specific niche being seen as negative by google for too many links?
SEO newbie here, I'm thinking about creating a blog post about a collection of useful tools and web resources for my specific niche. It'd be 300 links or more, but with comments, and categorized nicely. It'd be a useful resource for my target audience to bookmark, and share. Will google see this as a negative? If so, what's the best way to do such a blog post? Thanks

Can the Hosting location of image files have a negative effect if on the developers own media server rather than on client site server ?
Hi Can the Hosting location of image files have a negative effect if on the developers own media server as opposed to on the actual websites server ? In the case i'm looking at the image files are hosted on a totally separate server (a media subdomain of the developers site server) from the subject sites dedicated server. Will engines still attribute the properties of files hosted in this manner to the main website (such as file name or should they really be on the subject sites server own media folder ? Cheers Dan

Examples of sites using hreflang
Hi all, I'll soon be doing some work for a worldwide company who are launching a new site. The new site is a near clone of another of their sites in another country. Obviously I'll need to make use of rel="alternate" hreflang="x" on both sites. I've read all the Google documentation etc but was wondering if you guys could point me in the direction of a few sites which are currently implementing the tag successfully. Thanks in advance,

While SEOMoz currently can tell us the number of linking c-blocks, can SEOMoz tell us what the specific c-blocks are?
I know it is important to have a diverse set of c-blocks, but I don't know how it is possible to have a diverse set if I can't find out what the c-blocks are in the first place. Also, is there a standard for domain linking c-blocks? For instance, I'm not sure if a certain amount is considered "average" or "above-average."

If I get a natural link for a great site and I have my keyword with anchor text in this link, how should I proceed?
If I get a natural link for a great site and I have my keyword with anchor text in this link, how should I proceed? I need to contact the site and ask to remove the link or request the removal of the anchor text and leave only the site URL? Or yet do not I need to worry about this issue?
