I am trying to make my site a better user experience please help
-
Hi, i want someone to review my site and let me know what steps i need to do to make it a better experience for the user and to lower my bounce rate which is about 67 at the moment.
I am trying to get the advertising and the user friendly to match, i need the adverts to make money and need to make sure i have them in the right place so they get clicked more.
I want to reduce my bounce rate and want people to not just read one page but to go to different pages and would like advice on what i need to do.
here is the site http://www.in2town.co.uk
and here are the example pages that i would like to focus on to increase the user friendly and keep people on my site while making sure i have the adverts in the right place
I am looking for ideas on how to increase the experience and how to keep people longer on my site while at the same time have people clicking the ads by increasing the conversion rate.

Hi Diane,
Try measuring the speed of your pages with this.
What hosting do you have?
-
can you let me know how you timed from home page to the travel section so i can try and solve the problem please
-
thanks for this. i will come back to you on some points later but first of all, i am getting different reports on the times which is not good. i have tried lots of different tools to get the times. what do you suggest i do to try and increase the loading times from home page to travel.
the timing is a huge headache for me at the moment. i will sort out the images straight away

Hi Diane,
Many things effect bounce rate, you must also be careful when using Google's bounce rate stats as they don't always tell the full story (if you're linking to external domains as a big part of your biz it will count that as a bounce also). But very specifically to your site I'd say you have some trust and load time issues.
Re; Trust - elongated faces and repeated images don't say to me that this is a professional site, so that wont help your bounce. The logo also needs a bit of a revamp imo.
Load Time - It took me 10 seconds to travel from home to travel - thats about 10 times more time than i would expect.
If you address those two issues, trust and load time, firstly, and use Google analytics as a benchmark (that magical 67%) and then dig a little deeper.
Lastly: Re your biz model, I'd recommend trying to match the ads to the consumer a little more closely, if Im interested in Travel, maybe some travel ads? The ads I found were not retargetting ads or travel based ads. How do you hope to get people to this site: if its just via unique content driven via Google then keep in the theme of the clicked SERP?

Do You Like Live Chat Pop-Ups... Please comment!
My client sells 4-wheelers, motorcycles, UTV's, Boats, Jet Skis, etc. They have a live chat box that pops up on average 1.66 times per session and is automatic (does not require the user to click any button) Based on our analytics I am recommending we disable this feature but I want to hear from other professional data-driven marketers. I'm just looking for professional opinions on this strategy. Is anyone aware of stats stating how many people abandon pages the deeper they get in a site?
For example, let's say someone enters via a landing page, and instead of having a form there is a button to a form. What percentage of people will click the button and fill out the form vs if the form was right there on the page? Basically, I am trying to figure out what percentage of users do websites lose for every click a user makes on the site.

Issue with a particular command of robots.txt! Help needed!
Hi all,I'm facing a strange issue with a website: www.foodmood.itI've written this robots.txt: www.foodmood.it/robots.txt in which I'm using all commands I've tested and used on other websites. The problem is that this website is not indexing correctly, and my fear is that I've written the robots in a wrong way.In this forum I've been taught that this command Disallow: /*? should be substituted with Disallow: /? in order to be sure the crawler is not indexing all the URLs containing a question mark.My question is: do you think this command modified in the above way can cause a problem to my website?I repeat that I've used it on several sites and this is the first time I'm having this kind of problems. Thanks in advance for your help.A.

Help! Tracking Conversion Source of Specific Users: Possible? How?
Just as an example, let's say we generate a website lead from John Smith. Can we trace John Smith's activity back through AdWords or Analytics to see exactly where he came from and (with AdWords for example) what keyword he typed in before clicking our ad and converting? Thanks for the help!

Is being listed in the McAfee Directory and displaying a McAfee Secure logo on your site worthwhile?
I am trying to decide whether or not to renew a plan with McAfee Secure. My initial thought was that displaying the logo was not worth the cost, and that I would be able to establish the same consumer confidence with a seal from Authorize.net. Does anyone have an opinion on display the McAfee Secure seal and/or being listed in the McAfee directory.

Site Redesign - 2 Target Audiences?
Hey everyone, we are planning a redesign on our website (we have been planning it since Fall last year, but got very busy in the Winter), and some new content / design questions have arisen. Right now, we are a "digital media" agency, and we offer video, design, and marketing services. So we do web videos, motion graphics, websites, seo, really a little bit of everything except for 3d modeling. What we are really trying to sell is the combination of these services (we may create a web video and redesign a groups website, then manage their adwords and marketing campaigns) and become our audiences "Go To" digital media agency. We were toying with the idea of giving visitors the option of picking from one target audience or another when they arrived at the home page, and their experience would be customized to best fit the needs of that particular audience from there on out. For example, on our homepage we were thinking of display our overview and value proposition (which would be the same, no matter which target audience group you were a member of), then asking if the visitor was a "Small Business Owner looking for guidance" or a "Marketing Director looking for outsourcing partners", then based on what option they chose, they'd be directed to a corresponding landing page optimized for converting this audience. We were worrying this may drop our domain or page authority for our home page, since these aren't really keywords that we'd normally be trying to rank for. We understand that it is ideal to have 1 "niche" target audience, but we found that we heavily service both audiences. Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

Keeping pages indexed but making sure they fill out a form before access - confusing Q's
OK so let me break down this little scenario we have going on. I work for a b2b company so we have a lot of gated content that is behind a form fill out - this is how we get a lot of our lead generation. Some pages that we have behind the form are showing up in search which allows people to view the documents bypassing the form. At first I thought, well why dont we just no index that page so that it does not appear in search. But then I thought it would be smart to keep the pages indexed to keep the SEO value, Is there a way to keep these pages indexed but make sure that when they click the link in the SERPS that they need to fill out the form in order to gain access to the document? Something on the backend that checks to make sure that the referral URL was completed or something like that? Anybody deal with this before?

Improving Bounce rate, Time on Site & Pageviews per visit
Based on what seems like a general agreement that the Panda update has modified Google's algorithm and on page metrics such as Bounce rate, Time on Site & Page views per visit are now vital to a websites rankings. What methods are you using to improve these metrics? Have they worked?
