Improving Bounce rate, Time on Site & Pageviews per visit
-
Based on what seems like a general agreement that the Panda update has modified Google's algorithm and on page metrics such as Bounce rate, Time on Site & Page views per visit are now vital to a websites rankings.
What methods are you using to improve these metrics? Have they worked?

Hi
This is a substantial question, which can have many possible answers. First, bear in mind there are no "one fits all" solutions - there's no replacement for having a good look at your specific situation. For e-commerce a >50% bounce rate may be bad, while for a news or blog site (especially when landing on a full article deep within the site) a 50% bounce rate may be pretty good. So it does vary with the niche.
But to actually answer the question, you'll probably want to experiment with on page things, like design, usability, content quality - and especially take a look at the book "Don't Make Me Think" if you haven't.
But you should also make sure the right people are finding the right pages in your site. For example, I had a site that was ranking very well for a certain term, and getting some good traffic. But it turns out that key-phrase, and the intention behind the search was not aligned with what the site actually had to offer. So we re-targeted to a more appropriate key-phrase which cut the bounce rate in half!
Also, if you have an e-commerce site, be sure the terms you're getting traffic for are transactional in intent (intent to purchase something) vs. informational. If someone is looking for information but lands on an e-commernce site: higher bounce rate.
Lastly, a good benchmark I find is: how do you perform in brand searches? This is where you want bounce rate to be lowest, time on site to be highest etc. Someone is specifically looking for your brand, which should get the best metrics. If these are not where they should be, then you know your on page can be improved.
Lots here I know, but hope it helps

IE & Edge issues with site relaunch - advice appreciated
Hi, I've been involved in a major ecommerce site relaunch, redesign and backend and have been involved in several successful ones before. On the whole things have gone great. Of course there are some minor bugs to fix, rendering issues etc but my real concern is a significant decline in conversion rate BUT only for IE and Edge users. All other major browsers conv rate has increased. Trawling through analytics and the site itself in those browsers there is no obvious sticking points e.g bounce rate has improved on all browser inc IE & Edge, no particular point in the funnel is suffering more than others, no particular page or landing page is doing much worse than others etc. it just seems like all the kpi's (except bounce) are down a little on the 2 microsoft browsers, which has a significant impact. One of the things that changed on relaunch is that we moved to https and im wondering if that might be causing an issue with IE / Edge security or privacy settings or that functionality on the site that relies on cookies is being affected, though in testing we haven't come across anything. I'd appreciate any advice or insight. Thanks, Andy

About how much time should I budget for an adwords audit?
Hi, I'm considering devoting either my time to or jobbing out an adwords audit. The account has about a dozen campaigns and in total about 60 ad groups, 15 landing pages. About 6000 clicks and about 450 lead gen conversions. Conversions are phone and thank you page. The account involves search, display and retargeting. Client is looking for actionable insights about both the account and the landing pages, prioritized, in order to lower cost per lead. Here are my questions: How many hours of work? How extensive of a deliverable is the result? What might this cost if I hired a knowledgeable individual (not a big firm)? Thanks!

When to determine that a change DIDN'T affect conversion rates
Hi everyone, Description of test: We're a lead gen site trying to add more value by providing users with real, live quotes after they submit a lead. However, we don't want showing the quotes to tank our lead conversion rates. So we're running a test where 50% of leads see quote results and 50% don't, and we compare the lead conversion rates for each. The best possible outcome is to show that showing the quotes DIDN'T negatively affect conversion rates. My issue: When do we conclude the test? In the end, we're hoping to see that the change didn't cause a statistically significant difference between the control and version B, which is the opposite of every other test I've ever run. So, at what point do we conclude that the changes in version B didn't have a significant effect on lead conversions? Currently the control is doing 5% better than the variation with a p-value of .379

Track bounce rate per PPC keyword
Hi all Wondering if anyone could give me a nudge in the right direction with this please. When running an adwords campaign is there a way in which one can track the bounce rate on the landing page per keyword sending paid traffic? I've had a play about in adwords and GA and couldn't find the right option. The site I am sending traffic to is not a ecommerce site so cannot set up conversion tracking so we are going to monitor the bounce rates of different keywords and drop the ones which are bouncing much higher than others as it seems better to invest the budget in those words which are keeping people on the page for longer. Many thanks Carl

Site Customisation - Urgent Input Required!
Hello, We are currently setting up a way of customising a client's site based on PPC campaign. I am wondering whether or not there are any SEO issues we need to be aware of. Overview Our client’s site, as accessed by a user through Google Organic, will be the complete site; the same site Googlebot will see. The site, as accessed by a user through a particular Google Adwords campaign, will return a customised version of the site. How the Customisation is Happening The Adwords campaign will be set up to target a particular region, using Adwords’ built-in location targeting. Its ads will link to pages on the regular site, but each URL will be appended with a URL parameter that will trigger the customisation. A cookie will also be planted in these users’ browsers to ensure that the customisation continues as the user browses from page to page on the site. The majority of the content will be the same but the site will promote a particular store of the client, one local to the searcher. Other stores won’t be promoted on this customised version of the site. SEO Thoughts All pages will have canonical tags on them referencing the original, unmodified version of the page. I personally can’t see any issue with regard to SEO because we are approaching this in the spirit of helping the user. But with launch on the horizon I am starting to worry slightly and would welcome the feedback from anyone else here – are there any SEO issues that may arise from this?

Most important, please tell me why this company made you very happy. I sincerely look forward to SEOMozzer input. Thank you kindly, Loren

Reviews not shown on google search & seller rating extensions (adwords)
Hello, we have 2 questions, regarding reviews from rating websites. 1. Reviews on google Search We have several reviews for our website www.theprintspace.co.uk from various rating sites (e.g. qype, yelp, remotegoat, etc.). When searching for theprintspace on google, only some reviews and only some rating website are shown, most are not. For qype, for instance, we have 8 reviews, but google only indicates that we have 3. The yelp reviews (and many others) are not shown at all. According to google, it takes a maximum of 2 months for the correct number of reviews to be shown on google, but the reviews have been online for over 2 months now. Is there any way this problem can be solved, so google shows the correct number of reviews? 2. Seller rating extensions on google adwords We would like the reviews to be displayed in our google adwords as a seller rating extension. These will include the merchant star rating for advertisers that are highly rated on Google Product Search. We are setting up a google merchant account to do so. Google says: "Ratings are based on the user reviews collected by Google Product Search, which aggregates reviews from a broad base of sources across the web, including Reseller Ratings, Bizrate, ReviewCentre.com and Viewpoints." Do you know if the following rating website are in google's "base of sources" and will thus be recognised and used in google adwords as rating extensions? Yelp Qype Scoot Remotegoat viewlondon tipped Or does google only source from big e-commerce rating websites? How do we get the ratings into our adwords? Thank you for your help!
