Multible Dublicate Titles & Descriptions
-
Hi,
I reviewed a site for a client recently and noticed when I produced a crawl report (SEOmoz) that there were thousands of pages with the same content. This is because the developer added a ticket booking system which has a page for each day up to 2017 (5 years).
I see in my campaign monitoring that this results in 9,445 duplicate content errors.
The site is only 3 months old and has a Google PR of 4 and is ranking reasonable well for main keywords.
Just wondering if there is a way to fix this or should I leave it. Is it eventually going to result in problems?.
I cant see these pages when I view the server with FTP - perhaps they are dynamically created.

I looked at your campaign, and you've essentially got two options here:
(1) You could add a unique element to the title tag, like the availability date.
(2) You could canonicalize or de-index the variations.
Keri's warning is correct about the home-page, but it looks like this is a stand-alone page and rel-canonical would be viable. That would clean up your index gradually, but it would also remove the individual availability pages from the search index (and ranking contention), so it does depend a bit on your strategy.
For the site 9K pages, is quite a bit. The other thing you could do is change the system to only create links for dates with available events. I notice you have a lot of blank dates. Linking those serves no purpose, either for users or Google (and is just creating worthless pages, essentially). If you did that, a lot of these would clean up over time.
You might also consider just blocking the calendar links at some point - in other words, go back 3-6 months, but then don't bother. Don't make Google crawl 5 years worth of past dates.

That may not be the proper use of the canonical tag. You generally don't want to do a rel canonical on everything to your home page. I've asked Dr. Pete to step in and add some advice, as he's the expert in that tag.

Thanks for your help.
Will try that solution.

Adding CTAs in Meta Descriptions
Whats peoples opinions about putting Call To Cations CTAs in Meta Descriptions, and does this ever occur a Google penalty, as it can sometimes look a bit clickbait. For example I am looking at a site which currently has this meta description Meta Description: For more information on our sustainable, natural office furniture, click here to get in contact. Is this kind of description ranking unfriendly, Ive seen them used a lot but IM not a big fan of this myself. Any thoughts?

Can I reuse meta description tag on another site?
Hi....lets say i sell widgets and on my site i have redWidgets, blueWidgets and greenWidgets. Each of these widget page's has a meta description tag that seems to help click through. I now have a different site that would like to do a right up about each widget and will dedicate a independent page to each widget. Can i safely provide them with the original meta descriptions (from my original site) for each widget i have on my site to then use on these "right up" pages (as they seem to work well and are informative of the subject matter). I am not sure if this is a seo issue or not. I would think not but would appreciate any input. thank you

If Google still shows my old title in the search results then there is no way my title change could have changed my ranking yet right?
If Google still shows my old title in the search results then there is no way my title change could have changed my ranking yet right? In other words if I changed from TItleA to TitleB but search results and cache still show TitleA then any SERP drops or increases would still be entirely based on titleA right? Thanks.

Thoughts on Results from Changing Title Tags
A number of the client's we represent have seen drops in rankings. The title tags on these sites are formatted old way of doing tilte: "Blue Widgets| Cheap Widgets | Metal Widgets". We are going to change them to the natural format: Acme Offers Blue, Metal Widgets for Any Budget." Just wondering if anyone has made similar changes post-penguin and if they've seen improved ranking from doing it.

Best meta tite - description writing tool
Hi I am in the process of writing meta titles and meta descriptions for a clients product portfolio. I have the complete list exported from the cms system in to excel. I know I can add some clever logic to build the meta information but for this purpose I want to do this manually. Does anyone have a editor online or an excel sheet that shows you the charactor limits when writing the titles and descriptions. This would be handy if someone has, otherwise it's a case of having to write the excel sheet to do this, not that hard to do but i thought i'd ask the question.
