How many keywords/key phrases to use on main page
-
Hi all! I'm a bit new to the SEO process. My question is about keywords. Now, I realize that in a perfect world you would want to target one keyword/key phrase per page - or so I've heard. How many keywords/key phrases should I target for my main page?
I'm working on a Dallas real estate firm website. They focus on luxury real estate in Dallas, high rises, ect.. So I was thinking of focusing on "Dallas luxury real estate" for the main page but wasn't sure if I should focus on 2 or 3 other terms for the main page.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!

Hello Brian,
I'm a Realtor also. Yes, the school of thought is to optimize a page for one keyword phrase. But in our business that is not necessarily the case. Me personally I have about 4 keywords that my site is optimized for. Reason for this is that most people will link to your main page, so the link juice will be for that. I would use this order
1. Dallas Real Estate
2. Dallas Homes for Sale
3. Dallas Condos
These tend to be the most competitive phrases in our industry. what you want to do is make sure your title has the phrases based on value. The order above should be the order. meaning your page title should have
Dallas Real Estate / Dallas Homes for Sale / Dallas Condos
Then natural mix in those phrases into your content but make sure it is visitor friendly content and not just keyword stuffing.
Also think about internal linking and your external link profile with these various anchor terms.
Note: keep it all natural and legit. The only short cut in SEO is to the Penalty Box.

Hi Brian, i suggest you to follow this step: 1. Think about the keywords that best match to the company's services 2. Use Adwords tool to find out other combinations of words 3. Use the Adwords tools to find out the keyword traffic data 4. Select three for Each service given by the company 5. Use the seo moz tool to calculate the keyword difficulty and the potential competitors 5.make a choice from three to one ( focus your attention on your competitors reputation ) 6. create one page for each service and make an home page optimization ( meta description, title, content etc. ) to obtain the A in the on page analysis tool 7. Now you have to Increase your page reputation by obtaining link from related site wich should link you with a followed link containing your keyword as anchor text Hope that help Guido

Make your homepage the subject of your whole site.
Look at my site (I always use it as an example). Home page is about shipping. Categories are about types of shipping. The landing pages are for shipping to specific countries.
If I were marketing your site, I would stick to "Luxury Real Estate in Dallas" and possibly make category pages for different cities.

you can technically point as many keywords to one page as you want. if your domain has a high enough authority you can rank for terms without on page optimization and rank on links alone example: esurance.com not many words on the page but ranks well for quite a few terms. but since your site is new i would optimize for no more than 3 or 4 max per page because otherwise your text will probably not make sense to readers and look like you are stuffing keywords. focuse on building branded anchor text with some keyword anchors and while optimizing your page for your target keyword. just make sure its user friendly and you should be fine.

Improving SEO for an e-commerce page with 1 product page
I'm trying to improve the SEO for an e-commerce store that I'm working for that sells custom car air fresheners where you select the shape of the item and then upload the photo. The site has been around for almost 10 years so has authority in the field and ranks number one for custom car air fresheners and other related high-traffic keywords. However, there is no blog, no social media and has 8 total pages: landing page, FAQ, contact, guidelines, shape/product (page that starts the ordering process with little text), scents, terms, and samples.

I'm struggling with how we rank higher for specific keywords that we are not number 1 with ok traffic (such as dog air freshener, custom air freshener for car with picture, custom photo car air freshener) and not affect the current keywords that we are ranking number one for. In addition, how do we rank higher for other keywords, if we don't have that many pages like a blog to create content? I was thinking of creating a blog to target more keywords, but I don't think there is enough relevant content to make. And I feel Google would find a blog about "top gifts for dad" or "top gifts for the holidays" not relevant. I was also thinking of adding more text to the shapes/product page which could be tailored towards a keyword. Maybe I could create another product page that goes into more detail about the air freshener with images, descriptions, and other use cases. On MOZ, the Domain Authority is 18 (really low), so I am thinking about working on getting backlinks from relevant sources with authority to improve our SEO. Or do we not mess with the text on the website since it works and not worry about the other keywords and focus on technical SEO items and backlinks to help with SEO? TLDR: How do you improve SEO for new keywords for an e-commerce business that doesn't have a lot of pages for content without affecting its number 1 ranking on other keywords?0 -

Tool for wildcard keyword suggestions
Like others, I have also been oblivious to the options which were uncovered in this article, using stars or underscores to uncover more keywords suggestions. However, I am trying to find a way to avoid the manual labour. Did any of you find a successful tool that automatically adds all the possible combinations of these wildcards to give a comprehensive lists of suggestions? I am looking for a tool that also included my country (.nl).

How many redirects on a redirect can you have?
Since 2007 the best keywords for a good rank in seo have changed. In some cases we have changed urls to maintain a good ranking. That was 2 years ago ... and now we see we need to upgrade the keyword phrase we use and are thinking about changing the urls once again to keep our ranking. It seems absurd to have a redirect for your redirected page. Are there different ways to approach updating your keyword phrases without the 301 redirect? For example, it has been 2 years since we did a 301 redirect on a group of our pages. Are we better off having the original url deleted (which has been up since '07) or is it better to redirect the original page and the redirected page to the newest page? We already incorporate the updated keyword phrase changes into our titles, images and body copy to reflect the changes. Thanks

Price Comparison Website And Keywords
I run a price comparison website for a small niche at http://cdkeyprices.com I am targeting keywords for the specific products I am comparing the price/merchants on. On a typical page I would have a price column, product name, the merchant and a buy button. Buy button is affiliate linked to the merchant. The product name in the product column is the name from the actual website I am tracking. As such, my keyword was appearing sometimes up the 30 times. I've took it down some months ago but was wondering if this was a bad move. I was concerned Google would think I was stuffing the keyword. I've only just gotten into SEO the past few months so was not able to see any changes. Should i put the product column back up or would it be considered over optimization?

Best practice for targeting 'unnatural' location based keyword phrases
When optimising for a local based service, lets say a painter in texas, you will have various keyword phrases which are relevant e.g Texas painter Painter in Texas Painter Texas I have found that often the phrase which has the most searches is: [Service] [Location] = ('Painter Texas' in this example) But unlike the other phrases this is very hard to work into a natural sounding sentence or heading. Is the best practice to try and target the unnatural sounding phrase anyway due to the higher search volume, or target the next one down to stay natural sounding in your copy? thanks d
