Tags in wordpress -Important?
-
Hello,
I use the Wordpress plataform in my blog. What I want to ask is, how important is the tag field in the posts area.
Since I have the title tag and meta description how important is that field?
Its really a question that was in my mind since I start doing SEO
Tks in advance guys

I've been curious about this question myself and your post prompted me to do a little research. I'm not sure I've reached a ironclad conclusion yet but here's a little of what I found. First there are mixed opinions about the value. A SEO for WordPress presentation @ San Francisco in 2011 by Sujan Patel indicated that using tags weren't worth the potential broken link and duplicate content hassles (see slide 15 of his PPT).
In another opinion I came across, "attaching tags to each content asset, article or post does very little for the SEO (search engine optimization) of any singular article on a B2B blog or website. Used properly, however, content tagging makes your blog or website much better.
The author goes on to say "the SEO value of tags (as well as categories) is not in the association of keywords with a particular article or content asset (as many believe), but instead in the aggregated content that appears on the tag/category page that most CMS platforms generate automatically."
A third article flatly stated "Tags add specificity to your blog posts that help both search engines and visitors find relevant information on your webpage." My takeaway is tags are good for the user if used relevantly and not gratuitously (e.g. keyword stuffing). That seems to mesh with Google's mantra about writing for the user.

Hey Pedro,
This really depends on what you want to do with your site, and how you want to deliver the content to your readers.
The tags are generally used to help people find articles that interest them (by searching or clicking the tags, etc.) so they are an important usability feature for a lot of blogs. But they can create a bit of duplicate content if they are allowed to run rampant.
Because you can place tags with more/less specificity, you can give a much better description to each post. So if your site is about "SEO" you may have a post that goes into the "beginning SEO" category. But the post is about title tags. So you would give that post the tags of "title tags, meta tags, on-page seo" etc. depending on how your site is organized.
So you see how they allow you to place just a bit more info so you can tell your visitors what the post is all about.
The reason you hear about them so much in the SEO arena is due to their ability to grossly inflate the number of your pages on your site with content that is duplicated elsewhere.
If you have that same post and tagged the way I described, you now have the same/very similar content on the archive pages for each of the tags you assigned to it. This is usually handled by either blocking the search engines from indexing those pages, or creating canonical pages appropriately.
There's a really good plugin to make this a non-issue by Joost de Valk, but before you download and start setting it up, you might want to also read his WP SEO article.

Is Bing also ignoring meta Keywords tags?
Hi, I originally asked about pros (or lack of them) when it comes to using meta keywords tags here https://moz.com/community/q/importance-or-lack-of-meta-keywords-tags-and-tags-in-drupal. It was most likely related to Google, I guess. Is that the same if it comes to Bing as few sources are not sure how this SERP consider using meta keywords tags and people only speculating. Anyone has any kind of "confirmed" responses or experience? Thank you in advance.

Title Tag issue
Hello, This is a weird one. I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. A couple months ago, we updated trinitypower.com and it was back then that I first noticed this issue, but because the home page title tag was okay and contained the primary terms for that page, I told myself I would circle back. The problem is that even though Google crawls the site everyday, it does not update the title tag text in it's index. Google: "Trinity Power Rentals" and you will see the title in the index as "Trinity Power: Temporary Power Rentals". Go to trinitypower.com and view source. You will see the title tag in the code as "Temporary Power Rentals - Trinity Power" The desc tag has been updated correctly, but I can't figure out why not the Title tag. You can look at the cache version in the index of Google. It is showing the latest version of that tag, so I really do not understand what has happened here. I am using WP Super Cache... maybe a conflict with that? I have dumped it's cache numerous times though. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Jarrett

Post url not matching with post title ( wordpress)
I have this site called searchoflife.com on which I have noticed the post urls are not matching with the post title. For Example:Post Title - A Dialogue With NaturePost URL - http://searchoflife.com/dialogue-nature-2013-09-12 Words like 'A' and 'with' are not present in the post URL. This has been the trend since a few days. After investigating I found out that it was due to my plugin SEO ultimate which is actually creating post slugs automatically for the post urls. So my question is whether it is advisable to use post slugs instead of the full post url. Does it affect the SERPS for my site?

Image alt tags shouldn't contain keywords?
Hi Everyone, I've been informed recently that keyword within your image alt tags can be a trigger for penguin if you have your keyword mentioned too often on the page (over-optimisation). I'm not sure I understand why though, the reason for this is, we have a page which features a picture and a description of a product. The page title, heading, a mention in content and image alt all contain a keyword which is the product name. I've been told to remove these alt tags but aren't alt tags important for screen readers and other W3C complacency issues, so removing the product names from the alt (which also happens to be the keyword for the product pages but is best describing what the image is) would make these image useless to users with certain disabilities, so if its true that doing this can be a negative signal isn't this breaking googles guidelines by not providing good content for those users? Would it be better to remove these alt tags or attempt to remove keyword elsewhere on the page? or can anyone suggest something else? Thanks in advance.

Keyword Repetition in Title Tag
I am managing an online pharmacy website which has thousands of pages. I'm creating title tags for the pages that currently have automated tags.
On-Page Optimization | | pulseseo
I generally choose a word, find the next best alternative and merge them in the title.
Often this results in repetition of 2-3 words. Examples below:-
Title:- Skincare Treatment, Buy Skincare Products Discounted at Online Pharmacy Title:- Nebulisers, Buy Nebulisers UK Discounted at Online Pharmacy Title:- Electronic Dictionaries, Buy Best Electronic Dictionaries Discounted at Online Pharmacy Title:- Cat Skin Care, Buy Cat Skin Care Products Discounted at Online Pharmacy Are these OK or would Google penalize us for it?0 -
