Yahoo Directory -Is it worth it?

Is there still benefit to having a listing in the Yahoo Directory for $299.00 per year? It has very high domain authority.
Also does it benefit UK sites as much as USA sites?

Hi again!
Despite how much people say SEO is changing, I'm not sure I would change my answer much from the one I gave just under 3 years ago. Let me update one statement at a time:
I don't think that there are many categories where the traffic sent warrants $299/year any more. In fact I would say that in most cases the referral traffic from a Yahoo directory listing is close to zero.
The above is still true, but even more so now. Do you get any traffic from it?
As you say though, it has a lot of authority. It is also well established, tightly curated and is certainly known by those building engines. Therefore inclusion could at least been seen as a check that the site is not utter tripe. However, logically at least, a link in their directory shouldn't lend much more weight than that.
Any value on this front has probably diminished even further. If it was seen as a special case that highlighted quality sites, I don't think that would be the case any more. The overall quality has diminished, great sites don't bother listing any more and Google has had another 3 years to work that out.
I have not seen a measurable result from either adding or removing a site from the directory in recent years. It may well bring benefit as part of a bigger picture, who other than Google can really say?
No change there. I probably haven't added a site to Yahoo directory since then though.
However I wouldn't expect to see an increase from adding your site - even factoring in the additional links from directories who use it as a seed.
People aren't really creating directories like that any more, and if they did then links from them would likely be more damaging than helpful. I can't imagine that anyone would use the Yahoo directory as a seed for a quality site any more anyway.
It's worth mentioning that it is technically a different directory now, but I still don't think it is worth it. Wouldn't you have rather spent that last $900 on something more tangible?

I 1st wrote this question in 2012 and am still paying for the listing each year. Now it's 2015 I wanted to get peoples opinions again.....

Thanks for all your feedback - I think I'll give this a try.

There are 2 aspects to adding a listing in Yahoo directory.
1. It helps in SEO efforts for Yahoo aka Bing.
2. It helps improve the trust score of the site.
If your client has a budget for it, then go for it. It is one of those links that are still held in high-trust list. It could balance out a lot of spammy links in your site's overall backlinks profile.

It is a high authority domain, and one of the few paid inclusion links that doesn't seem to fall foul of Google (probably because the fee is for an "editorial review" rather than the link itself). I've rarely seen a click coming through from the directory, so listing would be for SEO purposes only.
I've never seen any significant ranking increases as a result of listing with Yahoo (I'm based in the UK), but it can help increase trust. I would say that if you have a large budget it's worth a try, but if you're working with a small budget the cost probably doesn't justify the returns.
Good luck!

.org EMD - worth it or should we go with a lesser keyworded .com
Hello, A client of mine really wants to go with a 3 keyword EMD .org kw1kw2kw3.org The other option is to buy a non EMD .com with 2 of the keywords in it. I am leaning towards the .com, I don't think .org's are very professional, and EMDs seem to be going out of style, but please give your honest opinion now and what will happen in the coming years. Thanks

Country sites - TLD's or sub directories?
Dear All, We have several brands which operate a several languages and currently have a set up like this: www.[BRAND].com/ = English global www.[BRAND].com/de = German www.[BRAND].com/fr = French … Each subdirectory is a completely different site so I was wondering would it be better to use TLD’s for each country site in order to hold more equity in the search engine if we used: www.[BRAND].com/ = English global www.[BRAND].de = German www.[BRAND].fr = French Are country top level domains the way to go? If we wanted to change language within a country site should we use the following? www.[BRAND].be = Belgium English www.[BRAND].be/nl-NL/ = Belgium Dutch If you could let me know what to do I would be most grateful. Should Global Company List in Local Directories?
Hi All, I am the Web Marketing Manager for a small, yet global, company. I've just started working at this company and I am focusing a lot of attention right now on link building, as the company is not great there in comparison to competitors. So right now I'm submitting us to directories. My question is whether submitting to things like Yelp and the Google Local Business Directory make sense for a global company. I want the inbound links available from those sources, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing something in regards to this. i.e. a pissed off customer could leave a negative review about the company on Yelp. That doesn't worry me, because if a customer is pissed off and wants to vent online, they'll find somewhere to do it. Is there anything else related that I might be missing? Thanks, Ben Alvord

Advice On Directory Needed
Hi, I am hoping some of you my be able to throw some advice my way here. I have picked up an SEO client who has mentioned a web directory called thediscdirectory.co.uk They appear to be a fairly reputable web directory and they have some fairly good extensions like you can add a Review section to your website where customers can add reviews to your website which with the extension will also show the customers your overall star rating etc. Now my question is this, with Google discounting a lot of Directories is it a danger to use these extensions on a site, especially if Google does follow through and make these websites a No No. I am not fan at all of directories but the client seems pretty intent on using this and I want to see some other pro's opinions so If I put my foot down and say no then I need to be able to back it with a good enough answer to convince even the most determined site owner. Thanks

Yahoo Directory, BOTW, BBB and Business.com for local SEO?
I've heard conflicting reports about using these paid directories for SEO purposes. I am a local Realtor with a website and blog. My site is on page one but near the bottom since the national sites dominate the top. Would these directories help me for local seo purposes? Does Google consider these paid links and therefore devalues them? How difficult is it to get into these directories since they can decline a submission and there goes my money? Are these directories worth the money? In total it would be like $1200 do get on all. I've already done what I believe to be a lot of good seo practices. Emphasis on I believe since I'm no expert. Just learning as I go. Now I'm up against the big brands in real estate and meet to compete. Any tips if these directories are worth it and anything else I should look to do?

Would a 301 redirect on a keyword based domain be a worth-while investment?
Similar questions have been asked - but I couldn't find a direct answer to my specific question here. I have the opportunity to purchase our exact keyword phrase domain name for fairly cheap (if I sold red balloons it would be redballoons.com). If I i set it up to 301 redirect to our main domain - would it provide any short-term or long-term SEO benifits? ADDITIONAL INFO: I sell a service to a niche market and in a relatively short amount of time have been able to rank #21 on our main keywords. Our domain is fairly young (about 1.5yrs), but we are WAY behind our main competition in the link building category (they have been at it for 10+ years). I'm looking for an interim solution to drive genuine SEO traffic while we work on our link building over time. Our main keywords only get about 15,000 global searches per month (google) and some of those are not our market (don't know how many exactly). The competition for our keyword is classified as "medium" in google adwords. It's really only worth it to me if I can begin getting page 1 results from this practice. Thanks in advance!!!
