Is it whitehat to offer products for a review & link?

It seems to me that if you can offer content for a link back, you should be able to offer a product for a review and a link. Any thoughts?

It is just never cut and dry
Right so, asking somebody for a review is the first half, offering free; points, merchandise, credit, discounts, or a super nice product for the best "review" contest style, would be a creative way to develop unique content and thus I would say 100% white hat.
The second half, asking for a link and offering the same sort of incentives is kin to buying a link, and IMO black hat. In this sense you are trying artificially inflate your ranking by "trading" something for a link. In this case somebody linking to you is by no means saying I like this site, they are saying I like the free stuff they give.
Your question coupled the two together, but I thought it best to look at each case individually.

You should giveaway products to relevant sites anyway.

You're getting the product reviewed and if people search for said product, they will see the pros/cons.

You're getting exposure. (Pick the right sites to give the products too)
The link if considered "white hat" would be a bonus, in my opinion.

When pitching a whitepaper as Push Content for Link Building (i.e. pushing out content that my client has created), is it ok to give the person I'm pitching a link to a landing page with a form on it? Or should I create a landing page with the whitepaper included on it? I’m not sure if the client will be ok with this b/c I know they use the whitepaper for sales purposes to gain leads. For example, my pitch email would include a line such as this, "the whitepaper can be found at LINK and I'd love if you could share it with your readers." I think it may be weird/a little wrong to ask a webmaster to include a link on his site to a landing page with a form to get the whitepaper. Does this make sense? Footer Links And Link Juice
I'm starting to learn about link juice and notice in GWMT > Traffic > Internal Links, that the list is in this order by the links counted on each page. Some are in the footer and some are in the header, with some being more important than others commercially i.e. /register /privacy /terms /search /sitemap /disclaimer /blog /register So I am wondering if I should add a 'no-follow' attribute to the footer links i.e. privacy, terms, disclaimer and leave the others as they are? Does this help retain link juice on each page where the links appear? Or am I missing the point all together? This is my website: http://goo.gl/CN0e5

What is the difference between external followed links and internal followed links.
I have almost 3,000 external links followed and only a tiny amount of internal followed links. My website is doing really badly on google at the mo. I am also an SEO beginner and learning new stuff every day, but am not sure exactly what the difference is! Thanks!

Great idea to get back links in short order; however the links would be unrelated. . Is it worth the effort . BTW, it's a white hat method. Should I proceed?
I have come up with a very creative way to get some great back links using white hat methods. The problem is that the back links to the site would be to an interior page or external promotional website which then have links back to the main website. What kind of value for the main domain would this potentially achieve. What are peopLes thoughts on this idea?
