How to get rid of those duplicate pages

Hi eveyone
Just got my first diagnostics report and i got 220 duplicate page titles and 217 duplicate content pages.
I know why this has happened it is because i did play about a bit and did originally have:-
www.mydomainname.com/index.php/alpha
Then i change the page path to:-
Then i change the page path to:-
www.mydomainname.com/category/alpha
So now when i get crawled i have 3x duplicate page titles, descriptions and page content. Even when i have put 301 redirects to my preferred domain path. Which is hurting my seo, right?
How do i stop theold domains from giving me these bad reports?

After much searching, I found this little number http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/seo-a-metadata/meta-data/5139
Just put your canonical tag in between these {tag}{/tag} and drop it in your article and it places it in the head of your page.
Bit long winded especially if you have the amount i had but it will hopefully get me by.

This is an issue I`ve dealt with over and over again for Joomla sites.
I had some good results with Canonical URL Module but didn
t use it yet for 2.5 so Im reluctant to suggest it.I
m currently working with our Dev. Team to solve this for K2 - as far as I know, if you are a K2 user youll need a custom solution.(yes I
m aware of K2 canonical plugin and no, I dont recommend it)GL

Search the Joomla Extensions directory and choose one of the canonicalization extensions. Just search for "Canonical"
These extensions will add a canonical meta tag to the pages to say which one is most important. This saves all the link juice to just one page, and will clear up most of your duplicate pages.

Is it better to try and boost an old page that ranks on page #5 or create a better new page
Hello Everyone, We have been looking into our placements recently and see that one of our blog posts shows on page #5 for a popular keyword phrase with a lot of search volume. Lets say the keyword is "couples fitness ideas" We show on page 5 for a post /couples-fitness-ideas-19-tips-and-expert-advice/ We want to try and get on the first page for that phrase and wanted to know if it is better if we did one of the following: 1. Create a new page with over 100 ideas with a few more thousands of words. with a new url (thinking /couples-fitness-ideas) 2. Create a new page with a new url (thinking /couples-fitness-ideas) with the same content as the currently ranking post. We would want to do this for more freedom with layout and design of the page rather than our current blog post template. Add more content, let's say 100 more ideas. Then forward the old URL to the new one with a 301 redirect. 3. Add more content to the existing post without changing the layout and change the URL. Look forward to your thoughts

Duplicate Content - What can be duplicate in two different product pages.
I am having a hard time understanding how my 3 different product pages are being shown up as Duplicate Content in s crawl. Some of my 21 different pages are being shown as duplicate content. How is this page ranking?
Hi. A client of mine is being outranked by a competitor whose landing page does not include the keyword within their page content AT ALL. Nor does their URL. Nor do any image alts. And their page title features the keyword in the middle of it, not at the start. Their link profile is not great with directories and the like. They are not socially active.. I am confused! I thought content on a page absolutely had to include the keyword to get ranked for it. Here's the page: www.springsoft.ie, keyword is "water softeners" Any thoughts I would appreciate. How To Get Started?
I am very new to this website and signed up within the month. I have seen the crawled results of my website www.davidwaddleton.com but I just don't know what to do with the information. For example I get duplicates/errors/suggestions and I look at them but don't know how to fix them. Can you please recommend how I can move forward as a newbie? Keywords per Page
Iv'e looked through the QA here and there are a lot of different conflicting opinions on what is a generally a good idea. For Example Florist Clearwater Clearwater Florist Florist in Clearwater Florist in Clearwater FL Clearwater FL Florist Clearwater Florida Florist Florist in Clearwater Florida Florist near Clearwater FL etc.... So for something like this example....should I have one page represent all of these keyword iterations or split them among different pages?

tagged as duplicate content?
Hello folks, I'm new to SEOmoz . I was looking at our Crawl Diagnostics and found that some of our blog posts that have been commented on were tagged as duplicate content. Issue: Duplicate Page Content (index.htm)
I get an error of "**Issue:**Duplicate Page Content" for the following pages in the SEOMOZ Crawl Diagnostics. But these pages are the same one! Duhhhh.... Duplicate pages
Hi, I am using a CMS that generates dynamic urls that according to the SeoMoz tool will be indexed as duplicate pages. The pages in questions are forms, blog-posts etc. that are not crucial to achieve ranking for. I do worry though about the consequences of having 20 (non-duplicate)pages with static urls and about 100 pages that are duplicates with dynamic urls. What consequences will this have for the speed that the robots crawl the site and could there be negative effects on ranking for the entire domain?
