Finding Directories – HIGH Quality – Directory Critic REALLY???
-
I am trying to concentrate on high quality directory link building as part of my search for quality one way followed links.
My usual criteria is:
- Domain rank of at 70+
- Page ranks of 20-30+ on the actual link pages.
- Human edited
I have been finding them using loads of different resources and have occasionally used Directory Critic. (Obviously I have used the SeoMoz directory list but as we are all aware this is past it’s prime..)
Any resources or techniques other people use?

Just wanted to leave a quick note saying that SEOmoz has upgraded the Link Directory! You can view a post Cyrus wrote with more information about the directory updates and link building via directories at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/seo-link-directory-best-practices.

Yeah that's the way I am tending to go.

i have a list of 50 "General" directories that i have been submitting with each client i handle, that i compiled it over the years.
but for relevant to niche / location directories yes i do search for them.

Thank you, I do sometimes but must admit to relying too heavily on raven toolbar and SEOMoz toolbar.
Do you mainly search for your directories too?

Check the google cached date of the homepage and listing page.
the more frequent caching the more valuable

Linking back to a high authority site
I have an odd situation. One of our most powerful links comes from a not-for-profit whom we have an advertisement with. That ad gets us half of our business. Recently, they slipped for the term that got them the traffic that flowed to our site. I was thinking of linking back to that page to boost them up a bit. Their page is a deep page on a high authority domain with only a few links. I am an authority site for my niche. I'd like to boost them up without diminishing my rank for other related terms. I'm willing to consider linking to them from my homepage, blog or link page. To play it safe I could just link build to them from outside my domain. Can I just link to them and its not a big deal?

What benefit does a site with a low DA get from someone guest posting who links to a site with a high DA?
I'm relatively new to link building and although this may be an obvious question I can't seem to find an answer anywhere even after searching Google.

Concerned about quality of backlinks - should I take action?
I regularly work on websites to which previous SEOs have built questionable backlinks. This morning I've just been analysing some backlinks - found 40 odd were coming from 20 odd websites which all had the same gentleman as personal registrant, who happens to be the boss of an SEO company. The SEO company name is mentioned in registrant details too, and often on the websites in question (including weblinks from some of these 20 odd websites to the SEO company). I did note the IP addresses / hosting for these websites did vary though, as did the postal address of the individual in question, perhaps throwing Google off the scent a bit. I should add that these websites are virtually all tourism related/themed, with up to a few dozen backlinks per page - usually articles. It's very clear they are backlinking to keyphrases. Now, this kinda thing sets the alarm bells ringing. Firstly, this looks like an infringement of Google Webmaster Guidelines. Secondly, it doesn't sound like a White Hat technique for building links! Am I correct? I guess it might be denied they are partner pages due to the quality of content, perhaps, which isn't as spammy as it might've been. However, I suggest these are at least paid links because there is no other clear way of getting content on these pages, as far as I can see. Should I demand these backlinks are taken down? What level of risk is posed do you think? I don't want this website to suffer a Google penalty at some point, particularly not after I've started work on it. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Do you think it is worth using this directory?
I mean if it will be beneficial for my project (site) to get listed at web-designers-directory.org Any thoughts on that or you had the experience of working with that site?

High PR networks look like they are gaining traction - and working!
Let me put a disclaimer here that I do not use high PR networks in any of my seo endeavors. That being said, they have always looked attractive - especially post panda where in content links from high pr websites are valuable. I run seo campaigns for a large lot of websites & have been noticing my competition creeping past me who are using links from these networks to increase their positions for hard to attain keywords. Has anyone here had experience building links using these types of networks? It looks like they are under google's radar for now & are a great way to get some powerful links to your site. Any thoughts on if google will catch onto these types of links if they are properly protected (limited footprint, revolving links, unique content, etc.)? It's tough not to be at least interested in networks like this b/c of the results they provide.

Getting a link from a page on a site with high site DA but low PA?
Does anyone know if it is still worth it getting a link from a page on a site with a really low Page Authority - say a news page on a site that has an SEO Moz tool bar PA of just 1 or 2, but the domain of the site has a high DA like say 83 Is this worth getting?? Thanks
