Name Address Phone NAP For Dentists
-
I've been working with dentists for a about 6 months but there is something that I feel I need to nail down.
When looking at directory listings and trying to standardize a dental practice NAP, many dentists have their company name in many different formats. Here is what I have seen so far.
Advanced Dental Care of Chicago
Advanced Dental Care of Chicago - Angela Davidson DDS
Advanced Dental Care of Chicago Drs Davidson, Richardson & Smith
Angela Davidson DDS
Davidson, Richardson & Smith - Advanced Dental Care of ChicagoWhat happens here is that with dentistry, the doctors name is as important as the practice name. Many people hear about a doctor and Google by the doctors name. Others Google the practice name.
It almost makes sense to put both the practice name and the doctors name in the Business name but as you can see, the practice name can get real long especially if they have 5 other doctors working there.
On top of that, some doctors don't stick around the practice that long so you end up with business listings containing old dental partners.
Trying to come to a consensus on the best way to list a dental practice.

Woo hoo! You guys are on the ball. The two articles referenced here by Fidelityim and Gyi are exactly what I would have pointed to. I would also highly recommend that you follow Linda Buquet on this issue of medical practices with multiple practitioners. Check this out: http://marketing-blog.catalystemarketing.com/google-places-duplicate-listing-dentists-doctors.html Nobody knows the ins and outs of Local SEO in the dental industry better than Linda, in my opinion. Hope this helps!

Well isn't this a nice coincidence... Andrew Shotland just published this article on search engine land that talks about this exact issue...

Bob-
Good question. We have been working with several dentists and have had good luck with the following structure of listings: (I have used 2 of your samples)
Advanced Dental Care of Chicago - Angela Davidson DDS
Davidson, Richardson & Smith - Advanced Dental Care of Chicago
But remember with directory listings you want to make sure you are focused both on the user experience (what makes the most sense to the consumer) and the SEO value. In that case, more importantly than what other people are doing, it really should relate back to the search results for that localized market and what your overall goals are. If your overall goals are to have someone search for Angela davidson, then there is a high likelihood they are going to be able to find that Doctor. In that situation, spending time and effort on the SEO related to Angela Davidson isnt generating huge value. If there are 30 Angela Davidsons in the market that come up in search listings, then it is more important to spend time on the SEO for her name.
If people are searching for "Doctor Davidson" more than "Angela Davidson", then including "Doctor" in the directory listing is more important for your SEO.
If people are searching for Davidson and Richardson, then you should focus on that keyword.
Hope this helps.

How to keep NAP if my company has two locations?
Hello, I am a bit puzzled since the company I'm working with has recently opened a new location. The company's first location is listed in all local directories. Could you please advise me what to do to make 2 locations visible and not to mess up with keeping same NAP all over the web? Most directories do not simply have the option to add another location. I had to open a brand new Google Business page for the second location (while using the same name brand). I suppose I am getting into trouble with this?

Client bought out shop but used existing phone number
We have a client in Nashville who opened his first location on Spring St., then later bought out PAC Auto to open a second location on Dickerson St. Lately, we noticed that the Dickerson location wasn't ranking. I found that the previous business owner at Pac Auto had already built up a good web presence and that sigh our client was using their old number. Basic NAP violation, ok, got it. But what to do next? I decided to update PACs citations with The Car People's business name and website. Where I was unable to edit or where listings were already claimed, I just reported PAC auto as closed. But yesterday I noticed not only was the Dickerson location still not ranking, but the Spring street location had indeed dropped several places too! (edit: I'm referring to local search results here as we don't own the site) What kind of beast have I stirred?! What kind of signals am I sending to Google that are devaluing the Spring st. location? Will things get worse before they get better? What can I do to make some progress on one without hurting the other? Is it worth trying to get the previous business owners logins (not likey)? Talk to The Car People about getting a new number (not impossible)? Is it worth trying to get the site in order to build separate landing pages for each location? Thanks in advance!

Localization without proper address?
Hi Mozzers, recently I received a project to promote a hotel website in a third world country. They have no street names, no landline phone, no zip-code. So far I tried to give a good address description in all social networks and on the homepage (footer) and signed into hotel directories. Suddently a new website of another hotel came up on google and made it up to number 1. They put a fake telefon number (landline) on the website. Is that a good idea of localizing a business? Do you have recommendations for me how to enhance. Thanks

How do I Address Low Quality/Duplicate Content Issue for a Job portal?
Hi, I want to optimize my job portal for maximum search traffic. Problems Duplicate content- The portal takes jobs from other portals/blogs and posts on our site. Sometimes employers provide the same job posting to multiple portals and we are not allowed to change it resulting in duplicate content Empty Content Pages- We have a lot of pages which can be reached via filtering for multiple options. Like IT jobs in New York. If there are no IT jobs posted in New York, then it's a blank page with little or no content Repeated Content- When we have job postings, we have about the company information on each job listing page. If a company has 1000 jobs listed with us, that means 1000 pages have the exact same about the company wording Solutions Implemented Rel=prev and next. We have implemented this for pagination. We also have self referencing canonical tags on each page. Even if they are filtered with additional parameters, our system strips of the parameters and shows the correct URL all the time for both rel=prev and next as well as self canonical tags For duplicate content- Due to the volume of the job listings that come each day, it's impossible to create unique content for each. We try to make the initial paragraph (at least 130 characters) unique. However, we use a template system for each jobs. So a similar pattern can be detected after even 10 or 15 jobs. Sometimes we also take the wordy job descriptions and convert them into bullet points. If bullet points already available, we take only a few bullet points and try to re-shuffle them at times Can anyone provide me additional pointers to improve my site in terms of on-page SEO/technical SEO? Any help would be much appreciated. We are also thinking of no-indexing or deleting old jobs once they cross X number of days. Do you think this would be a smart strategy? Should I No-index empty listing pages as well? Thank you.

I grabbed a better domain name. What next?
I have been trying to rank well for the key word "National Currency" forever and can't seem to make it into the top ten. I would really like to have the URL NationalCurrency but it's taken and can't be bought. My url is nationalcurrencyvalues. After reading the forums and various other SEO advice it occurred to me that National-Currency is as good or better than NationalCurrency for that keyword because it's seen as two words. (right) So, I grabbed that domain name. Now, my question... is there some way to make use of the National-Currency domain name without building an entirely new site? I don't think I want transfer all of my content from nationalcurrencyvalues. Would there be any benefit to my nationalcurrencyvalues if I set up 303's on National-Currency?

TLD as part of word in domain name?
What is best practice regarding domain names? Assuming I would target the keyword "example" examp.le or example.com I guess the latter is preferable, what could be the issues with the first option? /Lars Eriksson

Google Places phone number question
Hi, A hotel/resort has a main phone number of 1-234-567-8901. This phone number is consistent in over 50 directories. However, they have a spa and restaurant with the same phone number. The front-desk answers the phone and routes the call to either the restaurant or spa. The name of the spa and restaurant are also found in the local listing directories under different DBA's with the same phone number as the Hotel/Resort. For example: ABC Resort - 1-234-567-8901 Spa Cuts - 1-234-567-8901 (same address as ABC Resort) The Spa - 1-234-567-8901 ) same address as ABC Resort) Will this phone number that is used by the 3 separate entities penalize the Google listing placements for the actual Hotel/Resort in Google Places? Thanks everyone!
