Ranking strategy -which pages to rank?

Hi,
I hope you can help.
I am looking to rank for 10 keywords. My homepage has some authority. On what pages should I focus my optimisation on?
Should I create a new page for each keyword and build links to these pages or try and optimise my home page for a number of keywords?
If so how many keywords should you optimise for from your home page to get the most clout?
Im a little confused about which strategy would be the most effective.

I suppose that your main keyword would be in the H1 tag, your second most important in the H2 tag etc etc. Can you have more that one H1 tag?

I've jsut had the same issue. I had seperate pages for my keywords and I had a lot of work to do link building etc... to build the authority of those pages. I have a strong home page so have moved the most competitive keywords to my home page and am hoping after some more link building to the home page these will rank better. Watch this space!

Ideally your home page is going to be your highest authority page, also target a few sub category landing pages with related content to that specific page.
Ideally you want to only target 3 keywords on each sub category page with related content to that specific keyword.

Community, I would be interested to see if anyone has been seeing any experiments, experience documentation, or other data that would give context around the impact of pointing backlinks not just to your money page / home page but distribute it across pages. When doing competitive research I often run into competition which has lower domain strength and page rank but a link profile that is more spread out across their domain; these competitors often outrank my site despite their individual page properties being weaker. Any reference to existing documented experiments, personal experience or guidance is welcome.

How can I find page 1 google keyword rankings for a certain page?
Not sure if someone has a tool for this yet or not... Say I have a page like this: http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Spokane.Painting.Pros.509-210-2799 and I would like to find out what keywords this page ranks for on google. Is there any tool that I can paste in that link and it would give me keywords that it ranks well for? Other than the SEO moz rank checker. It's not like I want to run a campaign just for links like that but I might want to build some links to citations like that so I can move those citations up in the rankings.

On-Page E-commerce Site Optimization
Hello everyone! Just started on a new job as in house SEO and PPC but it is also my first job as such, got little experience and for what I know the site needs a lot of work in terms of optimization. I would like to ask some help and some opinions about what I think should be done in order to rank higher because at the moment the highest ranking page doesn't go higher than the third page for general but high traffic volume keywords. All the titles tag are too long, some of them are up to 100 characters The meta tag isn't optimized properly to attract people and get clicks the content on the product pages is laid out badly and there aren't many keywords a lot of duplicate content there are little inbound links there isn't a section for content such as a news page, a blog or anything like that which makes link building even harder Here my challenges: Create well optimized product, category , subcategory pages to improve also the PPC landing pages Improve the rankings at least to get on the first page for general keywords Choose the right keywords to optimize the site for increase the number of inbound links. I also have to manage adwords and given my little experience I can't seem to prioritize things so any suggestions would be really appreciated. Also if you don't mind to take a look at the site and leave me comments on things that I should improve, I'd be grateful . Not getting ranks for long tail keywords
Hi I started white hat linkbuilding for this site - http://www.capsulekratom.com/ since 2-3 months, but I havent got any ranks for my keywords. Whereas I started few other new sites along with this on same niche and they are growing both in terms of traffic and ranks. Not sure, why I am not getting ranks for this website. Thinking about deindexing 200,000 pages
So I was hit with Panda and Penguin. Since then I have been trying to figure out what is it that Google is seeing as "low content" on my site along with links. Concerning low content I am a dictionary based site and I have over 200,000 pages which link to sepecific definitions to words like /dictionary/word/a and so on. Most of these pages if not all have a bounce rate of 100% and very little to no traffic. I used to link every word in my database in my site which is where Google got the links from to begin with. Since then I have removed those links with no impact to my rankings, but Google still has them indexed. I am thinking about deindexing all of them from Google. So all my pages with /dictionary/word/[word here] would be removed. Just wanted to get some opinions on that. Maybe a good idea? Also what would be the preferred method to deindex them. Robots.txt? noindex tag?

Will a link from a competitor help me to out rank them?
Greetings mozers, One of my competitors and I both rank on the first page for our main keyword. They have 37k+ links, me only like 300 or so. My company actually has a business location though. This other site is just a listing of locations and they build sites for most of my competitors. If I were able to get listed on their site, would that make me a stronger competitior with them? And we would probably only get a brand term link from them but not a main keyword anchor text. Will it be as effective to get the link from them if it's only for my brand name? Thanks, Cy

Link exchange with nofollow bad for ranking?
Hi, I wanted to give my EMD (Exact match domain) some more links and added it to some general start pages, just as my competitors did. The disadvantage of such link sites is that you have to add a link back to them. So I created a new page in my footer "links" and added a link back to those who requested that. However, I made all links a nofollow because I don't want them to benefit from my rankings. Those sites really have nothing to do with my subject and are just interested in a link to give them some boost I guess. I'm sure not everybody like my approach, but my question is. Will those nofollow links on my page back to the ones that requested it affect my rankings?
