DMOZ Directory Lising..... 5 years since submission
-
I submitted my site to DMOZ 5 years ago. It has yet to be approved.
Is there any use in trying to submit to this site. I have an established e-commerce site that has thousands of pages indexed.
Anyone have any useful info?

I'm an editor for one of the categories, and depending on the catagory you're trying to listed in, it can indeed take some time.
By the way, I actually don't think a link from DMOZ is all that powerful any more...just my 2 cents.

Are you sure it is still awaiting approval? this year january i was crazy about it and i keep asking my seo guys to keep trying and we finally got a link from dmoz but then penguin came and the site got an algorithmic penalty . And lost all the ranking. Dmoz is a good linkback as its a very high link back. but I still have yet to see some benefits, I have change our strategy now working on Content to get more quality links

I would resubmit it : ) it's been 5 years.. A Directory link from DMOZ is very strong. Just make sure you place it in the correct category and follow their guidelines.

My 40 year old, well established business has a brand name that I think is hurting my SEO. Need advice please.
Our business brand name has words in it which when we were using it as our domain name, was a) bad for our SEO and b) got our emails marked as spam in our client's inboxes. This was not a problem when we first got online, years ago. It eventually became problematic, but we didn't realize it for some time. When we realized the issue, we simply changed our domain name to something more SEO friendly, using exact match keywords. This was fine for a while, but eventually, algorithms changed again, and now with Google putting an emphasis on Brand Names and not looking as kindly on exact match keyword type domains, we are again at a place where we don't know what to do. We can't change our brand name. I don't want to post our real name or business here, but I will give an example. Brand Name: Living Free Travel The Issue: "Free Travel" gets blocked by spam filters, gets us useless traffic from people looking for free travel (which makes out bounce rates very high), gets our domain blacklisted. The Solution: travel2europe.com is the website of Living Free Travel The New Issue: travel2europe.com is not our brand, and probably doesn't look like one to Google, especially since on our site, travel2europe.com is never really mentioned because it is only our domain, not our brand. "Living Free Travel" is generally the anchor text for travel2europe.com wherever we are linked to. We assume this mismatch is problematic for us in ways we don't even know. Are we screwed? Need advice, please. THANK YOU.

Would you sign up for this Directory?
Hello. We're out looking for high quality, relevant links for our site that are relevant to our industry... We've noticed some of our competitors and suppliers are listed on this directory: http://www.dir.industrialcoop.com/ What are your thoughts on this directory? Is it high quality enough to request a listing there or do you think it's too risky? I'm not trying to do anything that could be perceived as risky or spammy. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Should Global Company List in Local Directories?
Hi All, I am the Web Marketing Manager for a small, yet global, company. I've just started working at this company and I am focusing a lot of attention right now on link building, as the company is not great there in comparison to competitors. So right now I'm submitting us to directories. My question is whether submitting to things like Yelp and the Google Local Business Directory make sense for a global company. I want the inbound links available from those sources, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing something in regards to this. i.e. a pissed off customer could leave a negative review about the company on Yelp. That doesn't worry me, because if a customer is pissed off and wants to vent online, they'll find somewhere to do it. Is there anything else related that I might be missing? Thanks, Ben Alvord

Yahoo Directory -Is it worth it?
Is there still benefit to having a listing in the Yahoo Directory for $299.00 per year? It has very high domain authority. Also does it benefit UK sites as much as USA sites?
