Do you need legal rights to pictures in Facebook posts
-
When I add an image to a Facebook post (for a FanPage) does it need to be something I own or have credited, or can I use whatever images I like?
Is this something that is at all monitored?
Thanks!

...it's perfectly acceptable to link and then attribute the image.
This is incorrect. This is theft.
...it seems to be acceptable.
It is not acceptable. Can cost you $150,000 and the copyright holder does not have to prove financial loss.
You better be careful.

Highland,
I understand what you are saying, but fear it draws some poor conclusions.
While you can give attribution, that will not protect you if you are using someone else' copyrighted material for a commercial enterprise. Attribution, like with an infographic for example is more of an Internet term of art.
If, given the broad question Sara asked, they use someone's material in a way that could be construed as an endorsement of their fan page, there will be a problem. The bigger issue is not even penalty or being scared. If it is not yours, why would you use it without permission? Yes, there are ways you can use it with attribution, but the question is overbroad to say that it is perfectly acceptable. A big question for me, based on your answer, is how is a commercial Fan Page on Facebook different than a website?
Best,

I dunno that I would be as scary as Robert about it. With Facebook, it's perfectly acceptable to link and then attribute the image. This way nobody sees it as your image.
I would not do this on your website but, within social media, it seems to be acceptable.

Sara,
You need to use images that are either yours, you bought from a seller of images, or are in the public domain without copyright. A FanPage is a commercial endeavor and as such you will have no protection IMO if you use someone else's copyrighted material. For basic images, you can use a supplier like IStock, etc.
Whether or not it is monitored is not the issue. Understand that if it were your image and I took it to use somewhere without your permission, whether or not I am caught does not change what I did. Also, if I am eventually caught, I had better be prepared to pay if the owner believes they have been harmed in any way and brings an action against me.
Hope this helps,

Why can't anyone check in on my Facebook Page?
Once upon a time, we were able to check in at our office on Facebook. Then, one day, we just...couldn't. I didn't (at least intentionally) change any settings on the page. I can't seem to even find a setting for this. What happened, and how do I fix it? Thank you so much in advance. (Edited to include the Facebook URL) https://www.facebook.com/LegacyTravel

Facebook fan page does not show up in Google Search
This fan page - http://www.facebook.com/AnytimeFitnessSantaRosa does not show up in the Google search results for "Anytime Fitness Santa Rosa Facebook" (broad match search). Other Anytime Fitness pages show up in position 1 and 2 and the website for the one I want to rank the Facebook page shows up in position 5 (http://anytimefitness.com/gyms/1352/Santa Rosa-CA-95407). Also I noticed something weird (but maybe unrelated - the url has a %20 in it but shouldn't - it should be a "-" (dash).

Should my Facebook like button be for my Facebook page or my webpage?
I am curious as to people's opinion about the Facebook like button you add to a given website. It would seem with the increased influence of social media indicators that you would want to have people "like" your webpage (as opposed linking the like back to your Facebook page) when they go to your webpage, but this dilutes the number of likes you get at both Facebook and your webpage. It is my understanding that people are more likely to "like" a page that already has a lot of "likes." As most of my clients are very small businesses, this is a significant consideration as their "like" volumes are very low by default (i.e., if you only have a few hundred people who even use your business it is hard to get thousands of likes). Thanks for your opinion!

Hi, Our website is nlpca(dot)com facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-NLP-Coaching-Institute-of-California/187804434598142 They recently added facebook. I told them for posting on the wall to do the following: Identify your target audience, possible people to like us Identify what they really really are searching for on Facebook and the web, and give it to them. How could we improve on this strategy. At first my boss wanted to post article sinippits and links to the articles, but I told him to create facebook content with the above (1) and (2) strategy Your thoughts?

Need a good Oracle friendly CMS to host our blog
I'm trying to convince my tech dept to take our blog off of a subdomain and move it to a folder on our root domain. Understandably, they don't want to build it from scratch, so I need some good CMS tools to build the blog. Our first choice is Wordpress but it isn't compatible with Oracle. Does anybody know of any good solutions that are Oracle-friendly? Our platform is PHP.. Thanks!!
