Google: 7 Results on First page now (Good or Bad)?
-
Hi,
So what are your thoughts on only 7 results on the first page of a search? Looks like its only in play for brands at the moment with increased sitelinks for the first result.
I actually really like it, looks a lot better and its easier to take the overall information in on the page.
I hope they role this out onto more generic terms as well. Should mean a higher CTR for those who have 'made it' to the first page.
I suppose Google will pickup on a higher CTR on the ads well.
-
As you say, I think it means that Google will pick up a higher CTR on ads. When SERPs are dominated by one site with a list of sitelinks, users will see diversity in the ads.
-
Thumbs up I do agree with you soon Google will be like me I feel I only hope they realize that we are Industry spawn because of them. I hope they will realize that we cancontinue to have a place that helps Google financially and overall for the user experience. we help to upgrade the user experience and overall website quality (most of us at least) and we are happy to do that marketing and SEO is marketing
-
It's one step closer to Google showing us exactly what we are after, soon enough clicking search will be like clicking the 'I'm feeling lucky!' button.
I can't imagine it effecting the CTR on the homepage as if you are searching for that brand name, then other sites aren't going to be closely related.
Note: If you are using rank checkers, your site will be 3 steps closer to #1 then they say, as they are mostly based around 10 searches per page!
-
it depends one hundred percent on what you're trying to rank for if 7 keywords of yours are on the 1st page of Google that is a good start. If it is a truly niche niche market or the key words are absolutely relevant to your business you could be in a absolutely fantastic place. however if you're only ranking for brand words like your URL and very absurd longtail keywords with no competitive rank then that does not sounds so good. However if you are ranking for things with a lot of interest yes you're doing a good job anything over a few thousand a day I believe is a good start. I made a killing in the plastics business ranking for "release liner manufacturers" There are only 200 and some on the world so as you can understand being on the 1st page for that matters quite a bit even though it's a low number of people that visit they are all willing to spend tons of money and that industry frankly is not caught on to search engine optimization. So the answer is it all depends on what you're trying to rank for and how many people are looking.
I hope have been of help to you.
Sincerely,
Thomas von Zickell

What are your opinions on the Google News vs Spanish Government Issue ?
Greg Sterling said: "Governments across Europe are justifiably alarmed by the declining fortunes of their respective newspaper industries. However punitive or parasitic taxation measures targeting Google, masquerading as copyright protections, are not the answer." Do you agree?

Help settle an argument pls - are local results 'organic'?
Hi y'all. Hoping you can help give some definition here to organic results as I've inadvertantly started an argument in a forum when I was suggesting to some soul in need of advice that he needed to concentrate on the two types of SEO, those being Organic AND Local search results. So the argument started that Local search IS Organic, and results are classed as either Organic or Paid. Though to me, the term 'organic results' represents the search results derived from googles main website indexing algorithm, Not Paid, and not any of the Verticals (Local/News/Images/Video etc.) So would love to hear what others views are... if I'm totally wrong I'll go back and graciously accept my education 🙂

12-pack Now a 6-pack?
Google just announced the new 12-pack site-links 2 weeks ago, and now it looks like they're testing some changes that restrict it to a 6-pack. Are others seeing this? Has anyone seen an official report (Google blogs or major search site)? Is this an homage to beer or abs?
