WMT - Googlebot can't access your site
-
Hi
On our new website which is just a few weeks old upon logging into Webmaster tools I am getting the following message
Googlebot can't access your site - The overall error rate for DNS queries is 50% What do I need to do to resolve this, I have never had this problem before with any of the sites - where the domains are with Fasthosts (UK) and hosting is with Dreamhosts. What is the recommended course of action Google mention contacting your host in my case Dreamhost - but what do you need to ask them in a support ticket. When doing a fetch in WMT the fetch status is a success?
-
Yes, it has to be a configuration entry in your host file with your website hosting company.
-
Your hosting company: dreamhost. (if a WMT fetch is ok - that means the DSN settings are ok and on a hosting level something might be wrong)
-
Which one should I contact?
The Domain Company - fasthots
or
The hosting company - dreamhost
-
Yes,that's right. They can check what's wrong...
-
Raise a ticket with the host or with the company that the domain is registered and managed from?
-
Google or a particular server could have the DNS cached, they might have multiple DNS servers etc causing it to be working with no issues.
If you have another domain with no similar issues, it could be a minor mis-config within the DNS entry for that domain only. Raise a ticket with your host with a screenshot of the issue from Google and their techs should know where to look.
I hope this helps.

Hi
I have other sites hosted with Dreamhost and there is no mention in WMT of this message?
Could it be something within the actual DNS of the domain itself? It has domain privacy set on the domain but it wouldnt be this that is causing it
Its also weird that when I do a fetch in Google WMT it always brings back a success message?

Do you have any other sites hosted with the same DNS ? It looks like a DNS issue for sure. If I were you, I would move my hosting. Maybe I am being paranoid, but I don't like DNS issues. It's not a SEO issue, it's a site up-time issue. If bots can't access my site 50% of the time, could it be that a lot of my user's can't access my website either ? 50% is a very big number. If possible, I would transfer my domain name to a different registrar and a different hosting company. Just trying to be safer.

Can't get my site recognised for keyword
My site prettycool.co.uk and primary we sell fascinators, the problem is I can't get the word fascinators to be listed by Google. We are on the 1st page for most colours ie. pink fascinators, blue fascinators etc. but for the term fascinators even if we fetch we are listed for a couple of hours and then disappear. I've checked for keyword stuffing but our site sell fascinators and we need to have this word in our site and other sites have a lot more references to the term and are listed on the 1st or 2nd pages. We used to be listed on page 1 for many years but the last 2 or 3 years dropped back to page 4 but now nothing. Any help or suggestions would be fantastic!

What's the best way to integrate off site inventory?
I can't seem to make any progress with my car dealership client in rankings or traffic. I feel like I've narrowed out most of the common problems, the only other thing I can see is that all their inventory is on a subdomain using a dedicated auto dealership software. Any suggestion of a better way to handle this situation? Am I missing something obvious? The url is rcautomotive.com Thanks for your help!

Blog page won't get indexed
Hi Guys, I'm currently asked to work on a website. I noticed that the blog posts won't get indexed in Google. www.domain.com/blog does get indexed but the blogposts itself won't. They have been online for over 2 months now. I found this in the robots.txt file: Allow: / Disallow: /kitchenhandle/ Disallow: /blog/comments/ Disallow: /blog/author/ Disallow: /blog/homepage/feed/ I'm guessing that the last line causes this issue. Does anyone have an idea if this is the case and why they would include this in the robots.txt? Cheers!

What can I do if Google Webmaster Tools doesn't recognize the robots.txt file?
I'm working on a recently hacked site for a client and and in trying to identify how exactly the hack is running I need to use the fetch as Google bot feature in GWT. I'd love to use this but it thinks the robots.txt is blocking it's acces but the only thing in the robots.txt file is a link to the sitemap. Unde the Blocked URLs section of the GWT it shows that the robots.txt was last downloaded yesterday but it's incorrect information. Is there a way to force Google to look again?

Can I format my H1 to be smaller than H2's and H3's on the same page?
I would like to create a web design with 12px H1 and for sub headings on the page to be more like 24px. Will search engines see this and dislike it? The reason for doing it is that I want to put a generic page title in the banner, and more poetic headings above the main body. Example: Small H1: Wholesale coffee, online coffee shop and London roastery Large h2: Respect the bean... Thanks

Hi I have two websites one legacy site done in wordpress the other in php. However I would like to merge the two together and remove the wordpress site. However it has a good link profile and the pages rank well. What is the best approach to do a 301 redirect from the old site with all its pages pointing to the homepage of the new site? If so what's the best way to do this in wordpress? Many thanks

Title Tag won't update
The Home page Title Tag on my Wordpress CMS Website doesn't update. It has the Thesis Theme and All in One SEO plugin. I've updated it exactly the same on the Home page, for SEO plugin, and in the Thesis Theme - but still it displays the old one.. The site was last cached about a week ago - 3X since I've been attempting to change it. The other page's Title Tags update instantly when updated, but not the Home page. I've been digging for a solution and can't seem to find an answer. What could be the problem? (www.austinfitnessgyms.com -It should be: Austin Gym | Kickboxing in Austin | Impact MMA Fitness)
