Why Webmasters Tools verification meta tags change??
-
Why do these keep changing for sites that I have verfied over and over and over and over? About a month goes by and the meta code has changed and the site is unverified again. Seems like a trick to force you into logging into Webmaster Tools all the time. What gives???
-
I looked at Meta tag verification errors, and am beginning to think that another staff member may be working off an much older copy of the index page when certain changes are required and that is how this is happening. In which case, the HTML file would work better. We are going to try that will all of the sites and see if that reduces the problem, or if it keeps happening. And THANKS for the link to the verification errors. I Googled and Googled this issue, even on their own forums, and nothing.
-
I see these on my dashboard. I am a webmaster with a lot of sites in GWT, and they will all be verified with the meta, and the next time I log in, in a few weeks or a month, several are labeled as: Verify This Site, again. Arggg.
-
I used to use those, but found that dumb people on their staff wouldn't recognize that file and would sometimes get rid of it. Arrrgggg. Might have to try it again and just tell them again to leave the file there. Thanks for the tip.
-
This may seem over simplified, but in GWT, they are clear that if you were verified and it appears you are not, then something has changed about the method you used. Big question: did someone move or change it?
That said, here are the GWT common verification errors which are too numerous to list out. GWT breaks them down via verification method used.
Ben mentions using the HTML file and that is fairly common. If you are using the dns verification or meta tag I would suggest trying the HTML verification and seeing if that alleviates the issue. From what you wrote, I would guess you are using the dns verification. (Let us know in order to assist)
Good Luck,
Robert

Stupid question - How did you discover it had changed? Did it flag it up or was it whilst looking at a sites data you realised?
-
I agree that this is an issue, and seems frustrating. Maybe it has to do with Google updating their data base. Couldn't say for sure.
However I upload the HTML file for verification and have never run into issues. Try it and let me know if it gives you any more problems

Is the meta referrer tag still used
Is the meta meta referrer tag still used and is it affective. I have an issue with traffic going from one of my sites to a client site and our referral is going into their direct traffic (in Googel Analytics) instead of being seen as a referral from our site. I saw that people were using the meta referral tag, but I can't find any MOZ info about it other than a blog article from 2015.

Changing URL Parameters in Webmaster Tools
We have a bit of a conundrum. Webmaster tools is telling us that they are crawling too many URLs: Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site: http://www.uncommongoods.com/ In their list of URL examples, all of the URLs have tons of parameters. We would probably be ok telling Google not to index any of the URLs with parameters. We have a great URL structure. All of our category and product pages have clean links (no parameters) The parameters come only from sorts and filters. We don't have a need for Google to index all of these pages. However, Google Analytics is showing us that over the last year, we received a substantial amount of search revenue from many of these URLs (800+ of them converted) So, Google is telling us they are unhappy. We want to make Google happy by ignoring all of the paramter URLs, but we're worried this will kill the revenue we're seeing. Two questions here: 1. What do we have to lose by keeping everything as-is. Google is giving us errors, but other than that what are the negative repercussions? 2. If we were to de-index all of the parameter URLs via Webmaster tools, how much of the revnenue would likely be recovered by our non-parameter URLs? I've linked to a screenshot from Google Analytics ArxMSMG.jpg

Question about setting up Google Webmaster on Network Solutions?
I'm trying to set myself up as a Webmaster on my company's site. We use Network Solutions. I am following Google's directions on how to do this. However, I am a bit wary. Here are the directions. Underlined is the part I am having trouble with: Log in to your account for howlatthemoon.com at www.networksolutions.com by clicking theManage Account icon. In the left navigation bar, open the nsWebAddress (Domains) menu by clicking the **+ **icon. Click Manage Domain Names. On the Domain Details page for the domain you're using, select the Designated DNS radio button (to the right of Change domain to point to) and click the Apply Changes button. If you've previously modified your advanced DNS settings, click Edit (to the right ofDomain currently points to). Under the Advanced DNS Manager heading, click Manage Advanced DNS Records. Under the Text (TXT Records) heading, click Add/Edit. In the Host field, enter @. Leave the TTL field set to the default value. In the Text field, copy and paste the following unique security token:

(security token removed for obvious reasons) Click Continue. Review your changes and click Save Changes. When you've done saving the TXT record, click the Verify button below on this page. There is already a host of @ (None). The text for it reads: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all I called Network Solutions and the guy I was speaking with told me to delete it and replace it with my Google Webmasters code. However, I think this is setting up our email. Do I just add the Webmasters in and have two hosts of @ (None)? Thanks!0 -

Hi folks, Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why im getting different results in Google analytics. I'm using the Content Efficiency Analysis Report from http://www.kaushik.net which is absolutely awesome. When I search via my title tag I get 920 Unique Visitors over the month but when I search via the landing page URL with the same title tag I get 28. Any ideas to why their should be such a difference. I've also noticed that on that page i'm also getting a Rel Cononical TRUE using a site crawl. Any ideas are much appreciated

WMT tools - setting parameter for redirected URLs
Hi everybody. One of our clients has recently moved from one ecommerce platform to another. During the move, a huge number of URLs have been tidied up to remove dynamic parameters. The old URLs have been redirected to the new, tidy ones. My question is whether it's worth telling Google in the WMT URL parameters section not to index the parameters of the old URLs. Will this affect the redirects in any way? Thanks!

How to change a url for google analytics account
We recently changed the url of a client's website. Is there a way to change the url on the ga account instead of creating a new account so that we don't lose comparative data? Thanks! Sorry- I know this is a novice question.
