Do I have a chance to recover from penguin?
-
Hello All,
I am an internet retailer www.giftbasket4kids.com hit by Penguin and have made many changes to my site since first being hit on May 2011. It seems I lost my ranking in some keywords on the two following landing pages. I am OK on my other keywords /landing pages.
http://www.giftbasket4kids.com/shop-by-category/gift-basket.html keyword “Gift Basket Ideas”
http://www.giftbasket4kids.com/pages/birthday-gifts.html Keywords “Birthday gift for kids, boys, Girls, Children” it seems all keyword that includes “Gift, Gifts” and “birthday”.
Note: sometime most of the lost keywords come to 2nd page for a day or two then they disappear again
I received a Google notice first week of August that there are unnatural links pointing to my site. There was couple of paid banner advertising. I stopped the links and request reconsideration. A week later I got response that there are still unnatural link pointing to the site. I request for reconsideration again and asked Google to let me know which links are in question.it is over 3 weeks I did not get answer yet as I suspected.
I have optimized most of my product (80 fresh content well optimized product pages) and added a lot new content. I am making links differently. I am using Squidoo lens to promote my products. I do not know what else I can do. I have been told maybe I should restart new site! All my other keywords are ok . I do not want to start over. Can I make new landing pages and promote them? Would it work or the site is penalized for those keywords?
I appreciate your advice in advance.
If anyone knows of recoveries of a site like mine? I am looking for an SEO who has experience with relates to sites like mine.

can you please. share you finding with me as what is the problem with link profile. how I can improve it. is there any chance for me to keep the site?

Hey,
Quick point but an important one - if you have had an email in Google Webmaster tools you have a manual penalty. Now, that does not mean you have not picked up a Penguin or Panda problems since but in your case, things are worse than that.
With regards to starting over, you can just change domain and kill your old links that way, you don't need to start your whole site over again.
Really though, you have a pretty nasty link profile, so if you get past the manual penalty, you may still find yourself with penguin issues so setting up the site on a new domain may be the best course of action and then doing some good quality link building and content marketing to take this site forward.
Hope this helps

Thank you for guidance. I have already looked at all links. There are no paid links in my profile since May 2012. There are some low quality directory sites with repeated anchor text that I cannot change them. If I make new quality links with different anchor text would it help? If I delete the landing page and promote new page with the lost keyword would it work? Or the site is penalized for the keyword?

My advice is to wait for the reply from Google after they look at the reconsideration request, it can take longer then 3 weeks from my experience.
Furthermore if they knock it back again you may have to export all your links in webmaster tools and go over them one by one too see what is paid or non natural, annoying but these are the lengths Google are going to in today's market.
Sites can recover, I have seen a few who have been hit by Penguin and after 3 or 4 reconsideration requests they have come back somewhat in the ranks, it just takes time.

Recovering from a Google penalty
Hi there, So about 3.5 weeks ago I noticed my website (www.authenticstyle.co.uk) had gone from ranking in second place for our main key phrase "web design dorset" to totally dropping off the SERP's for that particular search phrase - it's literally no where to be seen. It seems that other pages of my website still rank, but the homepage. I then noticed that I had an unread alert in my Google Search Console account to say that a staging site we were hosting on a subdomain (the subdomain was domvs.authenticstyle.co.uk) had hacked content - it was a couple of PDF files with weird file names. The strange thing is we'd taken this staging site down a few weeks earlier, BUT one of my staff had left an A record set up in our Cloudflare account pointing to that staging server - they'd forgotten to remove it when removing the staging site. I then removed the A record, myself and submitted a reconsideration request on Google Search Console (which I still haven't received confirmation of) in the hope of everything sorting itself out. Since then I've also grabbed a Moz Pro account to try and dig a little deeper, but without any success. We have a few warnings for old 404's, some missing meta descs on some pages, and some backlinks that have accumulated over time that have hghish spam rating, but nothing major - nothing that would warrant a penalty as far as I can tell. From what I can make out, we've been issued a penalty on our homepage only, but I don't understand why we would get penalised for hacked content if that site domvs.authenticstyle.co.uk no longer existed (would it just be due to that erroneous A record we forgot to remove?). I contacted a few freelance SEO experts and one came back to me saying I'd done everything correctly and that I should see our site appearing again in a few days after submitting the reconsideration request. Its been 3 weeks and nothing. I'm at a huge loss as to how my site can recover from this. What would you recommend? I even tried getting our homepage to rank for a variation of "web design dorset", but it seems our homepage has been penalised for anything with "dorset" in the keyphrase. Any pointers would be HUGELY appreciated. Thanks in advance! Will

Never recovered from loss of visibility in Google, what did we miss?
Hello, I hope someone can help me, or can recommend someone who could look into this in more detail a a consultancy service or something. Our client https://bit.ly/2IjLD7X experienced a bad drop in visibility early 2017 which we didn't manage to recover from. We had a problem with one main category page that wasn't indexed anymore (it was #1 for a major keyword in the Netherlands). We were able to fix the problem eventually (had to do with the .be being indexed instead due to no hreflang) but never really recovered with that page, only the entire site around that time saw a major drop in visibility. The client went to another agency (a renowned agency in the Netherlands) but after over half a year they haven't been able to recover. Organic visits are still down 45% compared to the same period last year. Another major Dutch keyword they ranked #1 for is now #9 for instance. So basically two SEO agencies (we and the other one) have tried everything we could think of for the past year, but none of us seem to know what the problem is and the owner is quite desperate (it's a small store with only 3 employees and his monthly revenue is only half of what it once was. I'm afraid a quick look into the site won't help anyone find the issue, so if someone has a good idea of how we can help this previous client I would love to hear so!

Combine two websites or keep them separate after Penguin 3 ranking drop and gain
Since 1995 we had one website which combined our wedding and portrait photography business.(website A) Three years ago we created a new website and new domain name for the portrait photography side. (website B) We did not delete the portrait information from website A. Both sites were ranking well on page one. After Penguin 3 website B is no longer ranking at all. Website A is still ranking well and one of the original portrait pages on the website A is now ranking on page one also. I am wondering what to do and considering the below options: 1. Should I go back to a combined wedding and portrait site? (and delete website B) 2. Should I create a "301" from the original portrait page on website A that is now ranking, to website B that is no longer ranking, and delete all portrait content from website A? 3. Will having a combined wedding and portrait site be harder to rank as they are competing against each other, or will they help each other rank? Any comments or advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are gallery sites ok post Penguin?
We're getting ready to re-launch a redesigned site and I was hoping to use the opportunity to get some quality links. Are some of the higher-quality web design gallery sites still ok to submit to? Did Penguin have any effect on these? Just looking for opportunities for a little boost from our re-launch.

Very Weird Type of Penguin Penalization
One of my client's sites has a bunch of bad links from blog networks with exact-match anchor text. Since Penguin, they have been completely removed from Google for that keyword. But here's the weird part: It's only the homepage that has been removed, and only for that keyword. If I put other keywords into Google, our homepage comes up. So the site hasn't been banned, and that page hasn't even been banned because it still comes up with all of our other keywords. It's only when you put in the keyword that has all the anchor text that the homepage doesn't come up anywhere. (I went all the way to the end). Has this happened to anyone else, and does it warrant a re-inclusion request since the site and even that page haven't technically been banned?

How to recover after blocking all the search engine spiders?
I have the following problem - one of my clients (a Danish home improvement company) decided to block all the international traffic (leaving only Scandiavian one), because they were getting a lot of spammers using their mail form to send e-mails. As you can guess this lead to blocking Google also since the servers of Google Denmark are located in the US. This lead to drop in their rankings. So my question is - What Shall I do now - wait or contact Google? Any help will be appreciated, because to be honest I had never see such thing in action until now 😄 Best Regards
