Do I have a chance to recover from penguin?
-
Hello All,
I am an internet retailer www.giftbasket4kids.com hit by Penguin and have made many changes to my site since first being hit on May 2011. It seems I lost my ranking in some keywords on the two following landing pages. I am OK on my other keywords /landing pages.
http://www.giftbasket4kids.com/shop-by-category/gift-basket.html keyword “Gift Basket Ideas”
http://www.giftbasket4kids.com/pages/birthday-gifts.html Keywords “Birthday gift for kids, boys, Girls, Children” it seems all keyword that includes “Gift, Gifts” and “birthday”.
Note: sometime most of the lost keywords come to 2nd page for a day or two then they disappear again
I received a Google notice first week of August that there are unnatural links pointing to my site. There was couple of paid banner advertising. I stopped the links and request reconsideration. A week later I got response that there are still unnatural link pointing to the site. I request for reconsideration again and asked Google to let me know which links are in question.it is over 3 weeks I did not get answer yet as I suspected.
I have optimized most of my product (80 fresh content well optimized product pages) and added a lot new content. I am making links differently. I am using Squidoo lens to promote my products. I do not know what else I can do. I have been told maybe I should restart new site! All my other keywords are ok . I do not want to start over. Can I make new landing pages and promote them? Would it work or the site is penalized for those keywords?
I appreciate your advice in advance.
If anyone knows of recoveries of a site like mine? I am looking for an SEO who has experience with relates to sites like mine.

can you please. share you finding with me as what is the problem with link profile. how I can improve it. is there any chance for me to keep the site?

Hey,
Quick point but an important one - if you have had an email in Google Webmaster tools you have a manual penalty. Now, that does not mean you have not picked up a Penguin or Panda problems since but in your case, things are worse than that.
With regards to starting over, you can just change domain and kill your old links that way, you don't need to start your whole site over again.
Really though, you have a pretty nasty link profile, so if you get past the manual penalty, you may still find yourself with penguin issues so setting up the site on a new domain may be the best course of action and then doing some good quality link building and content marketing to take this site forward.
Hope this helps

Thank you for guidance. I have already looked at all links. There are no paid links in my profile since May 2012. There are some low quality directory sites with repeated anchor text that I cannot change them. If I make new quality links with different anchor text would it help? If I delete the landing page and promote new page with the lost keyword would it work? Or the site is penalized for the keyword?

My advice is to wait for the reply from Google after they look at the reconsideration request, it can take longer then 3 weeks from my experience.
Furthermore if they knock it back again you may have to export all your links in webmaster tools and go over them one by one too see what is paid or non natural, annoying but these are the lengths Google are going to in today's market.
Sites can recover, I have seen a few who have been hit by Penguin and after 3 or 4 reconsideration requests they have come back somewhat in the ranks, it just takes time.

Home Page Deindexed Only at Google after Recovering from Hack Attack
Hello, Facing a Strange issue, wordpress blog hghscience[dot]com was hacked by someone, when checked, I found index.php file was changed & it was showing some page with a hacked message, & also index.html file was added to the cpanel account. All pages were showing same message, when I found it, I replaced index.php to default wordpress index.php file & deleted index.htmlI could not find any other file which was looking suspicious. Site started working fine & it was also indexed but cached version was that hacked page. I used webmaster tool to fetch & render it as google bot & submitted for indexing. After that I noticed home page get deindexed by google. Rest all pages are indexing like before. Site was hacked around 30th July & I fixed it on 1st Aug. Since then home page is not getting indexed, I tried to fetch & index multiple time via google webmasters tool but no luck as of now. 1 More thing I Noticed, When I used info:mysite.com on google, its showing some other hacked site ( www.whatsmyreferer.com/ ) When Searching from India But when same info:mysite.com is searched from US a different hacked site is showing ( sigaretamogilev.by )However when I search "mysite.com" my site home page is appearing on google search but when I check cached URL its showing hacked sites mentioned above. As per my knowledge I checked all SEO Plugins, Codes of homepage, can't find anything which is not letting the homepage indexed.PS: webmaster tool has received no warning etc for penalty or malware. I also noticed I disallowed index.php file via robots.txt earlier but now I even removed that. 7Dj1Q0w.png 3krfp9K.png

Need 301 Advice with a Recovered URL from a Domain Typosquatter
I am new to a SMB and someone bought the plural version of our domain back in 2005 and has yet to let it expire. The domain was just renewed for another year so we finally decided to contact a lawyer and go through the domain name dispute process. This seems like a pretty cut an dry case and the lawyer is very confident that we'll have the domain within 30-40 days. Currently the plural version domain 303s to spammy web pages, shows shady ads and is just a malicious looking page in general. I am not savvy enough to know the exact complexities of what's happening on the backend but it's spammy. Knowing the history of the plural version domain, how would you treat it after we acquire it? Obviously, I wouldn't want to put our site in jeopardy by 301ing the plural version of our URL to our current healthy site but at the same time many customers might go to that domain by accident so eventually I'd like to 301 it. If it's any help, the plural version has a robots.txt that prevent G from crawling it..thank you in advance for your guidance!

Recovered from Penalty But.....
Hello,We recovered from Google's manual penalty in January 2014. Afterwards, we changed our site design, fixed our content, disavowed bad links, increased our social presence, tried to engage customers in blog content, etc. But we still couldn't get our domain name back on SERPs. (It wont show our site even on first page if I search "best vpn service" on Google.com)What should we do to bring our domain name back on the SERP?What About Sandbox? What we need to do to get out our domain name from sand box?Any comments or thoughts will be really appreciated 🙂

Recovering from disaster
Short Question: What's the best way to get Google to re-index duplicate URLs? Long Story: We have a long ago (1997) established website with a proprietary CMS. Never paid much attention to SEO (other than creating a sitemap) until four months ago. After learning some we started modifying the engine to provide better site to google (proper HTTP codes, consistent URLs to eliminate duplicates - we had something like 15,000 duplicates - etc...) Things went great for three and half months and we reached the first page on google for our main keyword (very, very competitive keyword). Before the SEO we were getting around 25,000 impressions and 3000 clicks on google. After our SEO efforts, we reached 70,000 daily impressions and more than 7000 daily clicks. On Aug 30th, 2014, one of our programmers committed a change to the live server by mistake. This small change effectively changed every article's URL by adding either a dash at its end or a dash and a keyword '-test-keyword' (literally). Nobody noticed anything until two days later as the site worked perfectly for humans. The result of this small code change is that within five days our site practically disappeared from Google's results pages except when one searched for our site's name. Our rank dropped from 8 and 10 to 80 and 100 for our main keywords. We reverted the change as soon as we noticed the problem, but during those two days, Google's bots went on a binge crawling five times the usual number of page crawled per day. We've been trying to recover and nothing seems to be working so far. Google's bots aren't crawling the repaired URLs to get the 301 headers back to the original URL and now we still have over 2300 duplicates as reported by the webmaster tools. Our Google impressions and clicks dropped to way below what we had before we did any SEO, down to 5000 impressions and 1200 clicks (inclusive of our direct domain name search). During the last 15 days (after we fixed the problem), our duplicate count went from a maximum of 3200, down to 1200, then back up to 2300 without any changes on our end. we've redone our sitemap and resubmitted it on day 3. So, what do we do? Do we go through the URLs with 'fetch as Google' function? (that's a bit tedious for 2300 URLs) or we wait for the bots to come around whenever they feel like it? if we do this, should we submit the bad URL, have google fetch it, get the redirect, follow it and then submit the followed URL to the index? Or is there a better solution that I'm unaware of? Second question: Is this something to be expected when something like this happens knowing that our inbound link rarely link to the actual articles?

Penguin 301 Re-Direct
Hi I already know the answer to this but wanted some backup. A friend of mine has asked me to take a look at his site. He was using an SEO company that saw him get hit hard by Penguin. He did the right thing and started all over with a new domain name. I've just noticed that the old domain name is actually setup to 301 to the new domain. This has to be a bad thing right?

Strategy for recovering from Penguin
I have a web site that has been hit hard by the penguin update. I believe that main cause our problem has been links from low quality blogs and article sites with overly optimized keyword anchor text. Some questions I have are: I have noticed that we still have good ranking on long tail search terms on pages that did not have unnatural links. This leads me to believe that the penalty is URL specific, i.e. only URL with unnatural linking patterns have been penalized. Is that correct? Are URLs that have been penalized permanently tainted to the point that it is not worth adding content to them and continuing to get quality links to them? Should new contact go on new pages that have no history thus no penalty, or is the age of a previously highly ranked page still of great benefit in ranking? Is it likely that the penalty will go away over time if there are no more unnatural links coming in?
