How do I separate 2 Google+ business listings?
-
Ever since Google Places started merging with Google+, my client's business listing is now showing up in local search results incorrectly under another business name who shares the same address as them.
Has anyone else encountered this problem or a way to correct it?
-
You are most welcome.
-
Thank you Miriam, I will look at those.
-
Yes that is correct.
They have different phone numbers. The business is bail bonding. Yes, client is showing up as OtherGuy in search results. Which is a problem because Client has great reviews that are now boosting OtherGuy's brand.

Hello TheeDesign Studio,
Merging issues are absolutely astronomical right now. Go and search the Google And Your Business Forum for the word 'merged' alone and you will see threads from here to pluto on this topic. Why your specific issue is happening cannot be resolved with an investigation of the specific business details, but likely, you will end up walking through the Places Troubleshooter (yes, Google is still calling it Places despite all the recent changes). Here's the link:
http://support.google.com/places/bin/static.py?hl=en&ts=1386120&page=ts.cs
And here's the link the Google and Your Business Forum, in case you don't have that handy. Sometimes, this can be very helpful in uncovering scenarios others have experienced that match yours:

Hope these resources help.

Hello TheeDesign
First, yes it has happened to many. Second, I am a bit unsure that there is any correlation between Places/Google+ as we have seen this when it was Google Places and we did not see anything and I have not read of that happening concomitantly with the G+ change. (We handle a few G+/formerly Places accounts).
So, Your client is Client and the other listing is OtherGuy. Client offices at 123 hohum lane, Denver. OtherGuy offices at 123 hohum lane, Denver; is this correct?
Do both share same phone number? What types of businesses? Are both results showing or has Client disappeared and only listing is OtherGuy but with your Client's info?
There are multiple ways to approach this and with a couple of details i will endeavor to assist.

New Google Update - weird ranking
Hi I wanted to get your thoughts on this keyword ranking. This page - https://www.key.co.uk/en/key/albatross-heavy-duty-office-chairs-24-stone is now ranking for heavy duty office chair 30 stone We don't mention 30 in the content anywhere, apart from the USPs at the top of the page - could this be it?! I don't know how to change this, or I guess Google is still figuring things out and maybe this will drop off? Love to get some thoughts on this! Becky

Anyone experience google penalties for full-screen pop-ups?
Although we always recommend against onload pop-ups for clients, (we feel the effect the user experience) we do have a few clients that insist on them. I was reading this article the other day https://searchenginewatch.com/2016/05/17/how-do-i-make-sure-my-site-is-mobile-friendly/ which lead me to https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6101188 and I'm happy to see that Google is going to consider these types of content a downgrade when it comes to rank. My question is 2 fold: Has anyone experienced a drop in organic traffic on mobile due to this update? and do you think this will include user triggered content like photo galleries, bookings, email sign ups? We haven't noticed any drops yet but it is something we will be keeping a close eye on in the next little while. Let's hear what the community has to say 🙂

Https & Google Updated Guidelines
Hi We have https on aspects of the site which users directly interact with, such as login, basket page. But we don't have https across the whole site. In light of Google adding it to their guidelines - is this something we need to put into action? Also same question on the Accessibility point Ensure that your pages are useful for readers with visual impairments, for example, by testing usability with a screen-reader. Are we going to be penalised if these are not added to our site? Thank you

Is Moz Domain Authority still relvant when it comes to Google ranking?
My understanding of Moz DA is that it is predominantly based on external links. Since Penguin I am noticing more and more websites ranking high in Google with a "low" number of links and certainly a low DA but quality and relevancy of content and also of offering. I understand that there was always more to ranking than DA but is it anymore even relevant to how a site will rank in Google?

Google Maps marker inconsistency
We just discovered that depending on the address format you enter into Google, you may come across incorrectly placed marker locations on Google Maps. Is this because our Google Places address format is not consistent with Google Maps' format? If so, when I go into Google Places to update the address format, am I going to have to go through the citation process all over again?

Next big Google update. Andy ideas when?
I'm interested to find out if anyone has and idea of when it will be or good guesses I would be interested to hear your thoughts. I have put a big effort into an SEO upgrade on my site and I'm interested in what impact I can expect when the next big update comes. Assuming I have fixed the issues that had been causing my traffic drop.

Paid for Directory Listings and no-follows
Was just about to book an advert in a directory until the salesperson told me that the directory listing would be replicated over 40 times, from different websites (they white label the directory to different sites, who then sell their own adverts in the directory). I asked them whether they did nofollows - they didn't know what they were, so clearly not. I'm thinking 40 plus identical links coming through (over 10% of total links to site) could attract punishment from Google. Your thoughts would be welcome. Thanking you in advance, Luke

Is there a way to know what rank my site is listed on google ?
My current client web page was listed at the 4th page 1 month ago. Im trying real hard to make him understand that the traffic from beiing on the first page is important and that he need to give me additionnal ressource to make it happen ( i don't prog at all). So i had the idea of checking every page to see whats is current rank. but instead of looking from page 1 to page X, i was wondering if there was something somewhere that could give me my rank right away. It woud help saving time. Thx.
