Does linking to relevant high authority websites effect your MozTrust or Rank?
-
Basically what the title says.
I am having a hard time understanding why a compeitor with less linking domains and none of any real quality, they're all membership sites or partnerships, nothing to relevant to the industry. While we have links and articles on us from multiple magazines in our industry. As well as to relevant directories with high domain ranks.
The only thing I noticed is they're linking to their clients website, which are all high authority websites.
So do external links count towards your MozTrust or Rank?
-
Thanks, I agree it can be good for the user, in our case it shows the high calibre of clients we work with, which in turn makes us look good and is completely relevant.
We're a service company, so we don't write blogs at this point. But just having a page explaining projects we've worked on with links to the clients it what works I think.
I will search for you post!

It's a good question. Linking to external high quality .edu or .gov or other good quality sites does influence ranking in most cases. Its good for user (unless its not too much linked) and also looks genuine to Google as Google see that this person is not just linking to its own sites but also multiple sites in similar context makes it easy for user to checkout those useful;l inks from blog itself.
I actually recently wrote a blog on this and yet to be published. But meanwhile you can do search on Hill-top algo and you will get something useful related to your question
-
That's true. And something that not people have given thought about it. I am sure there are still many people who would write a blog to get a link to their site and there are no other external links in that blog because they are worried that link juice might be lost to other sites.
But what you said makes sense and I have seen it works
-
Thanks for your answer, I also care about my ranking more. Just want to figure out some of the mysteries of these rankings.
What you're saying makes sense with regards to articles and linking, but neither of our sites are blog based websites.
Just curious as to any relevancy to linking to external sites.

I don't know how they influence my MozTrust or MozRank..... and I don't care how they influence those numbers.
What I do care about is.... "Does linking to relevant high authority websites effect my search engine rankings?"
I believe that if you have two identical articles.... One that links to source, supplemental and superior information on other websites.... and One that links to nothing... the article with the helpful, relevant links is a better information source for the visitor and could be ranked higher by search engines.
So, when I write an article I often link to supplemental, source and superior information on other high quality websites.
I have zero mental problems linking to websites that are superior to mine in some way.
The only thing I noticed is they're linking to their clients website, which are all high authority websites.
When I read this I don't quite understand why these links are being given? If they are linking because they are relevant and helpful information for the visitor on the page then that is good.
However, if the are linking to them just to link to them then why bother? I think the linking page and the linked-to page must be highly related to one another and the page receiving the link should have supplemental or superior information.

Better link metrics, but lower rank??
Hello to all, new member here from Houston. I'm learning a lot! I've brought my site up some but my chief competitor is still at #1 position. I ran a full SERP report for my top keyword. My site appears to rank better on: Page Authority…Domain Authority…MozRank…MozTrust...DmT/DmR… Additionally, his on-page grade is F, mine is B! So, it appears sheer bulk incoming links are really where it's at. He beats me, somewhat, at URL Link Counts, also on Followed External Links. The real difference appears to be External Links to This Domain: I have 65, he has somehow managed to get 3500…I think his webmaster has a local directory where everybody links to each other…I can't imagine how a small biz like this, in a fairly non-competitive industry, could get that many. Anyway, thought I'd bring this up for comments/clarifications, if anyone has any---Also, is there a resource to understand these various parameters. Thanks--- John in Houston

Specific external links
So...we have an A+ rating with the BBB and have for some time. We have a link from their page. We also use sites like pricegrabber and reseller rankings and have links from those. What I can't figure out is why links from the BBB and Pricegrabber don't even show up in open site explorer but the reseller ratings links are everywhere. The BBB one is easily the oldest and the other two are roughly the same age (i.e. at least a couple years old.)

Universal rankings has made my page not show in rankings any more
We've had a page with a video on it for ages; it always ranks well, generally around no. 5. But I've noticed that it's now ignored in SEMOZ as a page, and only shows as a Universal Result - so it looks as though our top page is no. 22, even thought the video shows as an icon still in the same position, no. 5. That's annoying as I now have to explain to my stakeholders how come our rankings appear to have dropped off a cliff - when i fact they haven't. The page appears in google SERPS exactly as it always has. Can anything be done to make it appear back as it did in SEMOZ? Thanks

Rankings Report not working
Hi (What happened to the User Voice feedback in PRO campaign reports? Another cutback because of scalability?) I'm getting sent here for Help on the reports It's Friday morning here in France ; I'm preparing a meeting with a client and as part of this I want their Rankings Report from the campaing I set up for them month's ago Half the keywords are showing up as "SAT" ; the message at the top says "Your keywords are updated weekly on Saturday. The last update was January 26th, 2013" They're not new keywords, if I click on them I get historic data up untill January 19th I'm guessing you had a problem on January 26th but why not put January 19th rankings rather than SAT ? The report is now useless. Here's the url if useful http://pro.seomoz.org/campaigns/54444/rankings Neil

Comparing Rankings Performance by Date
I would like to demonstrate to our clients how the Search Engine Rankings have improved or declined based on a date range i.e. this month vs last month and this month vs the same month last year. I could do a keyword ranking history export and create a chart in Excel from that information, however does anyone have any suggestions as to how this can be done more dynamically/automatically? Are there any API options or even a way to schedule the export of the historical data on a monthly basis? Any suggestions would be most welcome! Thanks Steve

How to get the total external links to a page and total external links to the domain using Mozscape API? I could not see an option in the bit flags
Hi, I was trying to get the data for total external links to a page and total external links to the domain using Mozscape API but I can't see a bit flag which can do that. There are bit flags for external followed links to a page and external followed links to a domain but I wanted the total external links data, is there a way to do that using Mozscape API else I would end up copying the data manually from OSE which would be cumbersome and time consuming. Your help is highly appreciated.

Rankings in Google UK
Hi there, Can someone explain the difference between the results in Google UK - the default is 'The Web', whereas I can opt to choose 'Pages from the UK'. My question is: If I'm tracking rankings for Google United Kingdom in SEOMoz, is it tracking the results from 'Pages from the UK' or the default setting of 'The Web'? Are there any statistics on how many people choose to see 'Pages from the UK'? Thanks

OSE lists dead links
Going over the link profile of a competitor who gets 5x the traffic we do.... of course frustrated that the majority of their links are spam blogs (full of words but don't communicate anything) and forum profiles. Thanks Google for telling me what not to do, then rewarding my competitor for doing it shamelessly. Question regarding sites listed by Open Site Explorer as linking to said competitor, but that don't even load when I visit their url. Some go to a godaddy parked page, like the domain name expired long ago. Is this simply a limitation of OSE, and can I assume Google has indexed differently and therefore awarding no link juice from these urls?
