How to keep social sharing if we change the URL ?
-
Hi,
We want to change the URL of the blogposts. We want to remove the date, so the URL ...
websitename.ca/blog/2012/02/04/name-of-the-article/ would become websitename.ca/blog/name-of-the-article/
For SEO link juice it's OK because we will implement 301 redirect on all URL. But we have many Like, Google + and Tweet on our articles.
Is there a way we can maintain our social share (Facebook, Twitter and G+) for each URL if we change them ? We are using Wordpress and we have around 1 500 blogpost.
Thanks for your time

Hi matt,
Thanks for your time.
We don't worry for 301 redirect. We will do all the 301 redirect page to page directly on the htaccess.
What I'm worriyng is to lose all the social share (like, tweet, G+) on our blogposts...and we have a tons of social share.
Can you manage this with your plugin ?

If this is Wordpress, use Dean's Permalink Migration plugin:
http://www.deanlee.cn/wordpress/permalinks-migration-plugin/
This will redirect all your current posts to the new format so you don't have to change a thing.
I recently moved the permalinks for a blog with over 500 posts and it literally took 10 minutes.

Ahh I see - if this is what they were referring to, I did misunderstand

Hi Adviso,
I've dealt with a few massive URL changes over the past year and reluctantly had to let the social shares go and just start over again. When you are dealing with thousands of pages, it simply is not going to be worth the time and effort needed to transfer them all over.
Ultimately, they are just a number that is displayed on your page and have yet to prove any significant value. If the content is good and still relevant, it will be shared again. Social Proof is nice, but good content doesn't need it. People will recognize it on their own.
This is the best article I have found on how to do it for each social network:

Good luck on finding a solution that works for you.

If you have a 301 in place, as soon as someone clicks on a link from a social site, it will take them to the new page anyway. After the change has been made, you just start sharing the new pages as you have been doing previously.
Or have I misunderstood the question?
Andy

Are Social tags beyond Structured Data still required?
Hello: I have a client that has Structured data set up correctly to include their social profiles for FB, Twitter, and Google+. But when I run an audit tool it tells me that they need < re=Publisher > tag for Google Plus. My understanding is that we don't need any additional code beyond the Structured Data tags. Is that correct? Thank you Rosemary

FB Sharing Contest Tracking Question?
We are going to give-a-way a PS4 through a social media contest. Likes, g+ circles and shares, but I wasn't sure if there was a problem tracking shares. I always thought I could just look at my FB posts and it would say how many shares. All I want to do is people to give someone an extra entry for sharing one of my post on his or her FB page. However, I've read that tracking shares can be difficult. I think the shares that are difficult to track are the ones beyond what I need, like if a 3rd party shared it or something, but I'm not sure. I want the contest to be as accurate as possible. Can anybody confirm or correct my thinking, please? Happy Thanksgiving Eve! Ruben

UK home improvement - building links or social shares?
Hi We are a regional UK installer of double glazing windows, doors and conservatories and I am looking to build the amount of quality links to the website to help improve our search position - 1st page for keywords such as conservatories, double glazing, pvc doors, pvc windows, composite doors What is the best approach to do this? Search for double glazing inurl:forum pvc doors inurl:forum and locate forums, but what is the best approach answer questions with the web address in the signature of the post? Looking at the major national players in opensite explorer such as anglianhome.co.uk

safestyle-windows.co.uk
greenwayupvc.com
everest.co.uk
valuedoorsuk.co.uk
yaledoor.co.uk/ Their backlink profiles look quite spammy? as they mostly point to web directories So is there a gap that I can take advantage of? We have little budget for sponsored articles on sites like what anglian have been doing looking at the backlinks but are there any other articles that I could write for our site that would help improve quality links to the site for keywords such as conservatories, double glazing, pvc doors, pvc windows, composite doors Same with their social profiles they seem quite poor, what would be the best approach on Facebook and Twitter to attract local followers - the majority of social followers I have seen have been fellow marketers or rival companies on the follower lists of twitter Many Thanks0 -
Whats the SEO value of getting Likes to your brand's Facebook Page (not your site's URLs being Liked)?
UPDATED: I meant to say SEO VALUE, not just business value Lets say I have a site - www.company.com, and I set up a Facebook Page - www.facebook.com/company. I understand the SEO value of having the domain www.company.com "Liked", using the FB Like button on my homepage lets say, or the same goes for individual pages - www.company.com/page. My question is rather about having my Facebook Page - Facebook.com/company "Liked". Are those likes counted by the engines as a strong signal that www.company.com should rank well? Or only that the Facebook Page - Facebook.com/company should rank well in searches for that company?

Custom Social Media icons: Good or bad?
Hi guys, In our never-ending search for better SEO strategies and results, our journey has led us to question the idea of creating custom social media icons for our site. We are wondering if anyone has had experience, either negative or positive, by using these icons, or if there is no difference at all? I would like to make it clear that we are only thinking about customizing the icons that lead to our Facebook page, Twitter profile, YouTube channel, etc. NOT the like/share/tweet/etc buttons. We understand the negative effects in changing those icons, but are interested in knowing if creating general icons that match our design will be a good or bad thing. Any replies are appreciated, thanks!

Being Blocked by Social Bookmarking sites based on IP
Creating a few (multiple) social bookmarking accounts at multiple sites and getting blocked based on IP (guessing). Disclaimer: a few, not volume here. What is the best way around this? Preferably something simple. Not savvy on VPN. Someone also mentioned Proxies, not sure the best approach on that one. Thanks!
