Getting ranked on google

I help run a small real estate site in ireland www.aplacetorent.ie and Im in charge of seo. I have read lots of books over the last year or so and while they offer lots of advice some of them dont actually show you what to do. I have joined distilled and I think its the best thing i have done in the last few weeks and am learning a lot but if anyone has any advice i would be very grateful. Thank you

When you have competitiors that are a more well known and have a bigger budget than you..... you just need to come up with alternative keywords that are less competitive.
Think synonyms. By targeting a small niche you will get a better result than trying to compete for more competitive terms that your competitors already dominate.
Would also suggest releasing some positive PR. A newsworthy press release, eg. about a specific area/suburb that you have listings in will get you a good ranking in Google and link people back to your site.
There are a lot of newswires out there but I find Ireland to be a tough market in general so rather than starting with the 'big/expensive' newswires I would test how much coverage you get with these....

I have no experience in seo so its hit and miss sorry but i value your comments and am going to carry them out. I have to do everything as there is nobody else to do it at the moment as the site does not make any money.

Be sure your Meta titles and descriptions are unique, add value to the user and the grammar & spelling are correct.

Be sure your content flows and the keyword density is under 3% as a guideline. Use synonyms.

Remove keyword Meta tags. The only thing it is good for is letting your competitors know what keywords you are targeting.

Set up Google Analytics / Web tools.

3. Remove meta keywords
This tag does not make any sense. Remove them from the website.
4. Writer proper meta description
This is what the home page of the website has got. Make it description. This is what Google shows in the SERP.
5. Logo and website URLs are different
6. Robots.txt file is missing
7. Custom 404 Error page is missing
8. Duplicate content in property listing pages
9. Most pages do not have any title
Last thing – are you serious that you are optimizing this website?

SEO 101
The first thing to do once you have built the website is submit a sitemap to Google.
If you are using Wordpress or similar there are a lot of free plugin's you could use to do this automatically for you. It important to have a sitemap so that search engines can navigate your website effectively and index each page.
Or the old fashioned way is to google 'submitting URL to google' and copy and pasting each URL. (not the best way but still can work).
To check which pages are indexed try site:http://www.aplacetorent.ie
Once google knows you exist you need to ensure you are targeting the right keywords for your market.
You can use http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/keyword-density-tool.html to check the keyword density for your on-page SEO. And then ensure your are using the same or similar keywords as the anchor text for inbound links to the site.
Next, ensure all of your social media sites are integrated into the website. Search engines are placing more and more importance on social presence so definitely get on top of that.
I work with a few clients in Ireland and find Google loves adverts.ie and boards.ie so see if you can use their services in anyway to assist with your link building efforts.

Will Google Judge Duplicate Content on Responsive Pages to be Keyword Spamming?
I have a website for my small business, and hope to improve the search results position for 5 landing pages. I recently modified my website to make it responsive (mobile friendly). I was not able to use Bootstrap; the layout of the pages is a bit unusual and doesn't lend itself to the options Bootstrap provides. Each landing page has 3 main div's - one for desktop, one for tablet, one for phone.

The text content displayed in each div is the same. Only one of the 3 div’s is visible; the user’s screen width determines which div is visible. When I wrote the HTML for the page, I didn't want each div to have identical text. I worried that
when Google indexed the page it would see the same text 3 times, and would conclude that keyword spamming was occurring. So I put the text in just one div. And when the page loads jQuery copies the text from the first div to the other two div's. But now I've learned that when Google indexes a page it looks at both the page that is served AND the page that is rendered. And in my case the page that is rendered - after it loads and the jQuery code is executed – contains duplicate text content in three div's. So perhaps my approach - having the served page contain just one div with text content – fails to help, because Google examines the rendered page, which has duplicate text content in three div's. Here is the layout of one landing page, as served by the server. 1000 words of text goes here. No text. jQuery will copy the text from div id="desktop" into here. No text. jQuery will copy the text from div id="desktop" into here. ===================================================================================== My question is: Will Google conclude that keyword spamming is occurring because of the duplicate content the rendered page contains, or will it realize that only one of the div's is visible at a time, and the duplicate content is there only to achieve a responsive design? We added hundreds of pages to our website & restructured the layout to include 3 additional locations within the sub-pages, same brand/domain name. How long could Google take to crawl/index the new pages and rank the keywords used within those pages?
We added hundreds of pages to our website & restructured the layout to include 3 additional locations within the sub-pages, same brand/domain name. The 3 locations old domains were redirected to their sites within our main brand domain. How long could Google take to crawl/index the new pages and rank the keywords used within those pages? And possibly increase our domain authority hopefully? We didn't want our brand spread out over multiple websites/domains on the internet. This also allowed for more content to be written on pages, per each of our locations service's, as well.

The impact of using directories without target keyword on our Rankings
Hello all, I have a question regarding a website I am working on. I’ve read a lot of Q en A’s but couldn’t really find the best answer. For one of our new websites we are thinking about the structure of this website and the corresponding URL-structure. Basically we have a main product (and a few main keywords) which should drive the most traffic to our website, and for which we want to optimize our homepage. Besides those main keywords, we have an enormous base of long-tail keywords from which we would like to generate traffic. This means we want to create a lot of specific pages which are optimized. My main question is the following: We are thinking of two options: Option 1: www.example.com/example-keyword-one Option 2: www.example.com/directory/example-keyword-one With option 1 we will link directly from our homepage to the most important pages (which represent our most important keywords). All the pages with the long tail content will be linked from another section on our website, which is one click away from our homepage (specifically a /solutions page which is linked from the footer). All the pages with long-tail content will have this structure www.example.com/example-keyword-one so the URLs will not contain the directory /solutions With option 2 we will use more subdirectories in our URLs. Specifically, for all the long tail content we would use URLs like this: www.example.com/solutions/example-keyword-one

The directories we want to use wouldn't really have added value in terms of SEO, since they don’t represent important keywords. So what is the best way to go? Option 1, straightforward, short URL’s which don’t really represent the linking structure of our website, but only contain important keywords. Does Google count the domain name in its 115-character "ideal" URL length?
I've been following various threads having to do with URL length and Google's happiness therewith and have yet to find an answer to the question posed in the title. Some answers and discussions have come close, but none I've found have addressed this with any specificity. Here are four hypothetical URLs of varying lengths and configurations: EXAMPLE ONE:

From Google Sites to Wordpress - Anyone Ventured this SEO terrain?
We have a few sites in Google Sites - and they are ugly! We have a majority (40+) of websites in Wordpress. But we have a few websites just stuck on Google Sites, and since Google won't let you fully edit the HTML, add scripts, or implement any technology since 2000, we want to move. The sad problem - the Google sites are ranking well. We rank well in Manhattan, Atlanta, Dallas, and Philadelphia. The problem is - the sites do not give much room for growth - and the bounce rate is high because they are so ugly. Has Anyone moved from Google sites to Wordpress? Should we just stay with Google and bite the ugly bullet? My fear is that these sites will not allow for growth. It is hard to update them and even harder to make them look nice. To get a sample - beware: www.counselingphiladelphia.com Even another reason to leave: The slider is non-semantic and terrible SEO. Google won't allow a slider script with tags and a hrefs, so the only way to implement a slider is through a Google Docs Presentation that keeps sliding. I know - terrible SEO (#donthate) but we needed something. Any advice and thoughts would help! Thanks Mozzers!

etc... First of all I know these have negative effect on SEO. Now to fix towards those issues it involve lots of works and times. At the same time most of our important keywords/url rank position have not changed over the last 12 months. Does that mean the above has only limited negative effect? I just want to know is it worthy to invest the man/hour/money to clean those issues. As it involves decent development time. Is it common to have some of error/warning in most website that rank well? Rankings disappears for two days
We have noticed with 3 of my sites that rankings totally disappears for 2-3 days and then appear again on google 1st page. Why does this happen?

Google indexing Quickview popups
Hi Guys I can't seem to find any info on this. Maybe you can help. We are using xcart as our shopping cart. When you land on a product page you have the option to "Quickview" the item. Google is picking up the quickview urls" and the vote on product urls. I have added the following to the robots.txt file but not sure if this will work. Any help on this would be great.
