Getting ranked on google
-
I help run a small real estate site in ireland www.aplacetorent.ie and Im in charge of seo. I have read lots of books over the last year or so and while they offer lots of advice some of them dont actually show you what to do. I have joined distilled and I think its the best thing i have done in the last few weeks and am learning a lot but if anyone has any advice i would be very grateful. Thank you

When you have competitiors that are a more well known and have a bigger budget than you..... you just need to come up with alternative keywords that are less competitive.
Think synonyms. By targeting a small niche you will get a better result than trying to compete for more competitive terms that your competitors already dominate.
Would also suggest releasing some positive PR. A newsworthy press release, eg. about a specific area/suburb that you have listings in will get you a good ranking in Google and link people back to your site.
There are a lot of newswires out there but I find Ireland to be a tough market in general so rather than starting with the 'big/expensive' newswires I would test how much coverage you get with these....

Will try the keywords and sitemap thank you but Idont think I have much of a chance with those other companies as they are owned by the bigest real estate site in ireland. Thank again

I have no experience in seo so its hit and miss sorry but i value your comments and am going to carry them out. I have to do everything as there is nobody else to do it at the moment as the site does not make any money.

Be sure your Meta titles and descriptions are unique, add value to the user and the grammar & spelling are correct.
-
Be sure your content flows and the keyword density is under 3% as a guideline. Use synonyms.
-
Remove keyword Meta tags. The only thing it is good for is letting your competitors know what keywords you are targeting.
-
Set up Google Analytics / Web tools.
-
Use Inner linking throughout your pages.
-
Set-up Sitemap & Robots.txt
-
Videos and Alt tags for images.
Follow these steps and you will climb the ranking in no time.
-
-
1. Redirect all non www version of the web page to with www versions
http://aplacetorent.ie/ should be redirected to http://www.aplacetorent.ie/
2. Set up canonical
http://www.aplacetorent.ie/index.asp
http://www.aplacetorent.ie/Both pages bear the same content. Set this URL as canonical - http://www.aplacetorent.ie/ to fix internal duplicate.
3. Remove meta keywords
This tag does not make any sense. Remove them from the website.
4. Writer proper meta description
This is what the home page of the website has got. Make it description. This is what Google shows in the SERP.
5. Logo and website URLs are different
6. Robots.txt file is missing
7. Custom 404 Error page is missing
8. Duplicate content in property listing pages
9. Most pages do not have any title
Last thing – are you serious that you are optimizing this website?

SEO 101
The first thing to do once you have built the website is submit a sitemap to Google.
If you are using Wordpress or similar there are a lot of free plugin's you could use to do this automatically for you. It important to have a sitemap so that search engines can navigate your website effectively and index each page.
Or the old fashioned way is to google 'submitting URL to google' and copy and pasting each URL. (not the best way but still can work).
To check which pages are indexed try site:http://www.aplacetorent.ie
Once google knows you exist you need to ensure you are targeting the right keywords for your market.
You can use http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/keyword-density-tool.html to check the keyword density for your on-page SEO. And then ensure your are using the same or similar keywords as the anchor text for inbound links to the site.
Next, ensure all of your social media sites are integrated into the website. Search engines are placing more and more importance on social presence so definitely get on top of that.
I work with a few clients in Ireland and find Google loves adverts.ie and boards.ie so see if you can use their services in anyway to assist with your link building efforts.
Hope this gives you something to start with

Links not visible in "Google cache text version" but visible in "Fetch as Google" in Webmaster tool
Hi Guys, There seems some issue with the coding due to which Google is not indexing half of our menu bar links. The cached text version of http://www.99acres.com/ is not showing links present in dropdown "All India" , dropdown "Advice" and "Hot Projects" tab in blue bar on top menu whereas these links are visible in "Fetch as Google" in Google Webmaster tool. Any clue to why is there a difference between the links shown in Google webmaster and Google cache text version. Thanks in advance 🙂

Should Our Mobile Responsive Version of our Ecommerce Site include the on Page content to Help with Rankings
Hello All, We are soon to launch our new redesigned website along with a mobile responsive version but i have noticed we currently don't include the on page Content we have on the mobile version which we have on the desktop version to help with rankings etc. I am not sure how google does mobile research with regards to rankings. We have designed our responsive version to be as user friendly as possible at the expense of having to much clutter/content but I am wondering now , if we will rank on mobile if all our on page content isn't present. Just wondered if we should include it at the bottom of the pages with say a "Read more" extension to help avoid clutter? Any advice greatly appreciated thanks Pete

Any way of showing missed sales in Google Analytics?
Sit down, this might get a little complicated... I was approached by a design company to do some SEO work a client of theirs. Usually, this stuff is white label but I have direct contact with the client as the design agency felt it was easier for me to do this. The website is performing really well and looking at the sales funnel, I'm getting people wanting to buy. BUT, and here's the problem, everything falls apart because of the way the check out works. It's appalling. The customer has to register to buy a product, there's no guest check out or anything. The checkout button is right below the fold and you'd miss it completely if you didn't actually search for it. Basically, it's losing the client money. Last month alone there were 300~ people entering the conversion funnel and NONE of them complete it. I've been talking with the design company and they basically saying that it's too much work for them to change it, it's a signed off project blah blah. UI reports have been conducted and sent to them but still nothing. I have the client asking (a great client, obviously wondering why there is a lack of return on his investment) why he isn't making money. He's asking me because I'm the guy thats meant to be getting him the cash back. I keep saying to the design agency the problems and that it's never going to make money. The potential is massive. But thats my problem. Is there ANY way in GA to calculate the missed sales? I know that I can view the total amount made when the customer successfully checks out but I need figures to present that I'm leading the horse to water, but the check out system is preventing it from drinking. tl;dr I need to show client/design agency missed sales due to poorly built checkout system. Cheers!

Is it common to have some of error/warning(currency duplicate, redirect, etc...) in most website that rank well?
Hi could any body could give me some idea on 'on page optimisation' Currently in my campaign I have around 3000+ errors, 14,000+ warning, 7000+ notices for the following reasons: Overly-Dynamic URL
Web Design | | LauraHT
Temporary Redirect
Title Element Too Long (> 70 Characters)
Duplicate Page Title
etc... First of all I know these have negative effect on SEO. Now to fix towards those issues it involve lots of works and times. At the same time most of our important keywords/url rank position have not changed over the last 12 months. Does that mean the above has only limited negative effect? I just want to know is it worthy to invest the man/hour/money to clean those issues. As it involves decent development time. Is it common to have some of error/warning in most website that rank well? (e.g. I 've seem may big website have duplicate title/meta-desc on their currency variant page)0 -

Old links in Google, new website affecting SEO?
Hi Guys, I have launched my website in october and it has already been indexed by google. Now I'm going to launch my redesign which comes with a new structure, content, links, etc. So the question is, do I have to resubmit my website to google to get rid of old links? Onsite Explorer shows links to my forum which has been spammed with p* stuff which has been already indexed as well. The forum is off now. I want to use SEOmoz to track my new website but I guess this could be a hard thing as old links etc will be shown as well. Is there any tool to let Google know about my changes? Does it affect my SEO in any way? Thank you for your help. Nick
