Gallary Pages
-
We have multiple Gallery Pages on a website and they are all being indexed as duplicate content. I am assuming it's because there's no content on those pages. So, it's picking up the pages header/footer navigation and considering it content. I am not sure what the best way is to deal with Gallery pages. I want the images to get indexed, but not sure how to do this if I need to set the gallery pages with the thumbnails on it to noindex. Would it be smart to set the pages to "noindex, follow" or "index, nofollow" or do you have any other suggestions?

We have multiple Gallery Pages on a website and they are all being indexed as duplicate content.
When you are saying that you have no content on a page how on earth it would be treated as duplicate content. Purpose of the Gallery pages is to feature images and your website is serving the purpose precisely. To expedite the indexing of images, you can always create an image sitemap. No need to block any images. This is totally unnecessary.

This is just an example of a couple URLS that are being considered duplicate content:
http://www.noveltyhilljanuik.com/private-events/culinary-2/
http://www.noveltyhilljanuik.com/private-events/winery-and-event-spaces/
http://www.noveltyhilljanuik.com/visit/photo-gallery/

Could you please show us some examples.. so that we can come up with suggestion how to fix this

Content that is delivered through JavaScript often has trouble being crawled by search engines. If the search engines cannot pick up your galleries then all they are seeing are empty pages (which would cause duplication). I would recommend looking into an alternative, SEO friendly provider.
-
We are using NextGEN Gallery for Wordpress and it is Javascript (J-Query) based.
-
How are you galleries currently set up? Do they use an iframe?
-
Is it a Gallery setting I need to be looking for or change?
-
If you set the pages as noindex then nothing within that page will be indexed - including the images. It should not be picking up the header/footer and thinking that is duplicate content as search engines will often understand that they are headers and footers.

Traffic to blog home page is going down after changing my WordPress Theme
I recently changed my wordpress theme from a standard free theme to a newer theme. The home page I switched up a bit adding more calls to action to some of our top posts and leading people to popular categories and so on. This greatly improved the usability of our site as it allowed us to highlight new posts. The previous free template simply listed 10 of our most recent posts on a page with small snippets and then you had to move to the next page to keep reading. Since switching my theme the blog traffic has stayed relatively level. That being said, the specific posts traffic is going up a lot whereas the organic traffic to the blog homepage is now nearly depleted. Is this a common thing to happen or is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

Has anyone had any recent success with creating a Wiki page? I created a page that has been in Draft for 8 weeks waiting for a Wiki Editor to review and approve it. Perhaps someone here is has a more established Wiki account than mine and can help please? PS: Yes, I know a Wiki page doesn't hold much SEO value but it has not been created for SEO purposes

Two pages for, essentially, the same product.
My client currently has a page on their website that advertises one of their products. The product in question is manufactured by someone else but branded by my client. Recently, the manufacturer have released their own version with their own branding which is available to the public. My client has decided that they are going to stock both their own version and the manufacturers version of the product to avoid losing any sales. This have left us with trying to find the best way to add the new product to the site without it competing with my clients own product in search engine results. We want the page to be indexed so that people searching for the manufacturers product can still find it on our site but at the same time we risk cannibalisation and essentially having two pages with what will essentially be the same content. Does anyone have any ideas for a suitable solution? I am unsure whether we should create a new page for the new product or whether we should somehow incorporate the new product in to the existing page.

Best strategy for content/articles. Individual pages or blog posts?
Hi all, Whilst adding content to one of my sites quite often I'm left deciding whether I should create an individual webpage for the content, or write it up as another blog post. More often I write it up as a static page so it fits in with the rest of my website more 'directly'. However I'm wondering if I'm missing out here as obviously I'm not taking advantage of the benefits of a blog, RSS, Tag Cloud, etc etc... Just wondering if others encounter the same quandary?

Please help me stop google indexing https pages on my wordpress site
I added SSL to my wordpress blog because that was the only way to get a dedicated IP address for my site at my host. Now I am noticing Google has started indexing posts both as http and https. Can some one please help how to force google not to index https as I am sure its like having duplicate content. All help is appreciated. So far I have added this to top of htaccess file: RewriteEngine on Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} ^443$ RewriteRule ^robots.txt$ robots_ssl.txt And added robots_ssl.txt with following: User-agent: Googlebot Disallow: / User-agent: * Disallow: / But https pages are still being indexed. Please help.
