We have over 3000 duplicate page titles, please help!
-
Hi, we did a crawl report and have over 3000 duplicate page titles. I'm not sure why this is happening... could it be because we have put posts in multiple categories? Can anyone help us with a quick fix? our site is www.stayathomemum.com.au
thank you kindly,
Chris

Hey
No problem at all. I would check out the All in One SEO config page, see if it can implement the rel=prev and rel=next tags, if not, switch to Yoast SEO or utilise some other plugin that will do the job.
Also, the SEOMoz tool does not work with canonical URLs as of yet so this can generate some more false positives.
All in all, not a big issue and one that is easy to solve.
all the best!

Marcus,
thank you for your in-depth and logical reply!
Most of our traffic is mobile so i'll take that into account.
cheers!

Hey Chris
I can see this is a WordPress site so it may be that you have nothing to worry about. A few examples would be helpful so we can see if this is effecting various types of pages (posts / pages / categories / tags) but I can likely give you some pointers with a quick dig into the source.
So, assuming it is the SEOMoz tool that is telling you that you have duplicate page titles lets have a look at the site and some examples.
So, WordPress is organised by various taxonomies including category, tag, author and date. Any of these pages can have a primary page and then additional pages when there are too many posts in a given section.
Lets have a look at an example: Recipes > Deserts
http://stayathomemum.com.au/recipes/desserts/
Desserts | Stay at Home Mum - Survive and Thrive on One Wage
This section has several sub categories for older posts all with a very similar page title:
http://stayathomemum.com.au/recipes/desserts/page/2/
Desserts | Stay at Home Mum - Survive and Thrive on One Wage - Part 2
Now, this is not exactly the same as we have ' - Part 2' at the end (page 2 would be better maybe?) but where you have a large site like this, with hundreds of categories, it does not take long for all of those categories to get several sub pages and to generate a whole bunch of similar or duplicate page titles.
Now, Google generally understands this but there are some simple ways to deal with this that can help them better understand your site. One of these is the rel="next" and rel="prev" tags. These tags exist to help indicate that a page is part of a paginated series as your category pages are.
The net result of this approach is that any indexing power is concentrate on the first page in the group so any links picked up by page 2, 3 etc are all allocated to the first page in the sequence.
Alternative - View All
A common alternative to this is to create a 'view all' page which lists all pages in a sequence. The search engine would then usually attempt to identify and list this page as the primary landing page for this category but you can further help them along by indicating this is the primary page via a canonical tag pointing to this on each sequence page. I tend to like a sensible name like <category>_view_all.html so deserts_view_all.html if we go with this approach. </category>
Whether you use that depends on your users and whether that or the first page in a sequence is best for them. Certainly, if a category has 500 recipes and 50% of your visitors are on mobile then that would not be the best approach so figure out what is right for the users and rather than Google and then implement the best practice strategies.
Solution
I can see you have the all in one SEO pack which does a lot of good things but I tend to prefer the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin and that handles rel=next & rel=prev out the box. All in One SEO may do this but it is not turned on by default.
Not to say there is no other duplication but that should certainly be enough to get you moving in the right direction and in all honesty, don't worry about this too much, just implement the best practice solutions and you will be good to go.
Hope this helps

Please help, (going bananaz) trying to trouble shoot sitemap submitted to Bing
We need help to figure out what seems to be an error in our sitemap.
Technical SEO | | IMSvintagephotos
We have submitted the sitemap to BING and the sitemap includes 1,2 million pages that should be crawled. After initial submission, Bing says in the dashboard that 1,2 million pages have been submitted. Then always after 2-4 days the number drops to either 500.000 pages or like now 250.000 pages. Why is that? is there an error in our sitemap and BING in excluding pages, and it lowers the submitted number after going through them and discovering the error ?. We need to figure this out and fix so that BING can crawl and index all our 1,2 million pages. See the screenshot showing the BING dashboard.
We are also having issues with google but we can't figure out what is going on. Here are the sitemaps: https://imsvintagephotos.com/google_sitemap/sitemap.xml and here: https://imsvintagephotos.com/sitemap.xml. Your website is www.imsvintagephotos.com qqp6gj0 -
Duplicate Page Content Issue
Hello, I recently solved www / no www duplicate issue for my website, but now I am in trouble with duplicate content again. This time something that I cannot understand happens: In Crawl Issues Report, I received Duplicate Page Content for http://yourappliancerepairla.com (DA 19) http://yourappliancerepairla.com/index.html (DA 1) Could you please help me figure out what is happenning here? By default, index.html is being loaded, but this is the only index.html I have in the folder. And it looks like the crawler sees two different pages with different DA... What should I do to handle this issue?

Added 301 redirects, pages still earning duplicate content warning
We recently added a number of 301 redirects for duplicate content pages, but even with this addition they are still showing up as duplicate content. Am I missing something here? Or is this a duplicate content warning I should ignore?

Duplicate Page Content for sorted archives?
Experienced backend dev, but SEO newbie here 🙂 When SEOmoz crawls my site, I get notified of DPC errors on some list/archive sorted pages (appending ?sort=X to the url). The pages all have rel=canonical to the archive home. Some of the pages are shorter (have only one or two entries). Is there a way to resolve this error? Perhaps add rel=nofollow to the sorting menu? Or perhaps find a method that utilizes a non-link navigation method to sort / switch sorted pages? No issues with duplicate content are showing up on google webmaster tools. Thanks for your help!

How can we fix duplicate title tags like these being reported in GWT?
Hi all, I posted this in the GWT Forum on Monday and still no answers so I will try here. Our URL is http://www.ccisolutions.com
Technical SEO | | danatanseo
We have over 200 pages on our site being flagged by GWT as having
duplicate title tags. The majority of them look similar to this: Title: <a>JBL EON MusicMix 16 | Mixer | CCI Solutions</a> GWT is reporting these URLs to have all the same title: /StoreFront/product/R-JBL-MUSICMIX.prod/StoreFront/product/R-JBL-MUSICMIX.prod?Origin=Category/StoreFront/product/R-JBL-MUSICMIX.prod?Origin=Footer/StoreFront/product/R-JBL-MUSICMIX.prod?Origin=Header/StoreFront/product/R-JBL-MUSICMIX.prod?origin=../StoreFront/product/R-JBL-MUSICMIX.prod?origin=GoogleBase These are all the same page. There was a time when we used these origin codes, but we stopped using them over a year ago. We also added canonical tags to every page to prevent us from having duplicate content issues. However, these origin codes are
still showing up in GWT. Is there anything we can do to fix this problem. Do we have a technical issue with our site code and the way Google is seeing our dynamic URLs? Any suggestions on how we can fix this problem? The same is true in our report for Meta descriptions. Thanks
you,

Please help me critique my friends site
Hi All, I've regularly helped others on this forum when they've asked for tips on how to improve a specific site's SEO. Now I'm asking for the favour in return 🙂 My friend has come to me with a site (http://www.swishplastic.com.au) and asked me to help with SEO and on-page optimisation. I've got a few of my own ideas but there may be a few key things I'm overlooking. If anyone could give a few pointers, it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Sneaky Page Title?
Hi Mozzers, I am a newbie, for sure. But I have been able to figure out how to help my customer very well; with the help of SEOMOZ of course. Here is the question: My customer (ZR) has a competitor and they use the phrase ZR.com in the title of one of their high ranked pages. Please see the enclosed graphic for the complete story. I would love to know if it is even legal (a pro would know) please see enclosed JPG... Thanks a bunch! OJ0ZL.jpg
