Reciprocal linking across holding
-
Hi there,
I was wondering if the following setup might be harmful for SEO of is frowned upon by Google:
I manage a couple of websites that belong to a specific company within a holding company. What is allowed regarding reciprocal linking? The current setup is like this:
- Site A: one-page general website about the holding, links to sites B, C, D on the homepage (follow link)
- Site B: website for a specific company branch, links to SITE A in the footer of each page (follow link)
- Site  website for a specific company branch, links to SITE A in the footer of each page (follow link)
- Site  website for a specific company branch, links to SITE A in the footer of each page (follow link)
Sites B,C,D don't link to each other, which is a good thing I guess, but should I change the links to nofollow, or is this not so harmful?

use it for cross navigational purposes only (user experience) don't use it for SEO or you'll get penalized if you're passing page juice. Nofollow all of them by default if you need to interlink, better you don''t interlink them.

RBenedict,
What you are describing is not reciprocal linking. You are a holding company with a legitimate purpose in your linking as well. Here is the GWMT page on Linking Schemes. The language is quite clear on what a "scheme" is:
Any links intended to manipulate a site's ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme. This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site, or outgoing links from your site. Manipulating these links may affect the quality of our search results, and as such is a violation of GoogleâsWebmaster Guidelines.
I would not nofollow and they are not harmful.

Backlinks vs External Links vs Referral Links vs Outbound links
Hello all, I was just wondering if you could explain the difference between all the links above? I'm confused as they all seem to be the same or similar and I would just like to clearly know what distinguishes them from eachother. Thanks for your help, Jayne

Reciprocol Links
Am I correct in stating that linking to every article about your company is a bad idea.  I see a lot of sites with followed links to the articles that link to them.  Is this not devaluing the link?  I've been recommending removing the links or no indexing the page and no following the links.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Reciprocal links
Are they worth anything, if they are from relevant sites? Â I'm I better off avoiding linking back wherever possible?

Do links within imbeddable widgets carry link juice?
I'm dipping my toes into infographic design. On of my desired outcomes is to gain links by having other sites embed my graphic. I'm considering using Tableau's interactive data visualization software to do so; thus creating a widget, embedding it on my blog, and including the embed code for others to post. Is it possible to include a juice passing link in such an infographic? I know its possible to include links inside the tableau graphic but not sure if they have straight SEO value. If these links are not juice passing would it be better to go with a simple image link that passes value?

Reciprocal Linking Strategy
Hello All, I wanted to ask something regarding a link-building tactic that I was thinking about trying. Many sites have what seem to be automated systems for adding a URL to a page in a site, but first require a reciprocal link to be posted from a page on your own. I was thinking about starting up a separate small blog/information site that related to subjects in my industry, and posting links to related resources on other sites as well. Could I use this as a vehicle for acquiring links that point to my main domain, while reciprocating links from the separate domain where the blog/informational site was located? Has anyone tried this before? Do these automated systems only accept a reciprocal link request if a link is verified from the same domain that you request your link to be pointed at? I realize that some webmasters who verify links manually may have an issue with this, however I feel I can overcome that concern more often than not by delivering quality, relevant content on the informational site (as well as promoting that site separately). I think any savy webmaster would prefer it this way as well. I'm certain this has been tried before, but would like to find out what kind of results I might expect. Any experience or advice that may be given here will be much appreciated. Mike

Porn link ...
I just ran https://www.majesticseo.com report for back links and showed me that I have one link at porn site ... not sure if it will be appropriate to post it here. The link was discovered on 03.05.11 and when I visited today link is not there... I dont know who put that link there. Can I get penalty for that from google? Can it be a mistake?
