Off page SEO
-
Our off-page SEO efforts include the following minimum on a monthly basis. Can anyone help with the relative merits of these, which are useful, which aren't and whether for instance you would substitute more of one for less of another?
On a per month basis
- 7 social bookmarks
- 30 Website directory submissions
- 4 guest blog posts
- 3 press releases
- 8 blog posts (on 2 dedicated wordpress blogs)
- 4 articles published in high ranking article directories
- 3 social profile with links/blog comments on .edu/.gov with links/classified ad links
- 1 slideshare presentation with links
Many thanks in advance.

I agree. As a link building method, social bookmarking is bad. As a method to drive buzz and get exposure and links for awesome content, Reddit and similar tools can be great. Reddit, StumbleUpon, and similar tools are not really social bookmarking sites, either.
-
I'm going to agree with all of what Adam Thompson said, less the social bookmarking part. Social links can be valuable as they can lead to an influx of traffic (depends on the content obviously). Reddit can be particularly powerful.

My suggestions:
- 7 social bookmarks. Not a good way to build links.- 30 Website directory submissions. You should only submit to a few high quality relevant directories. - 4 guest blog posts. Good, if on high quality sites. - 3 press releases. Not a good way to build links, should be done to help gain press coverage. - 8 blog posts (on 2 dedicated wordpress blogs). Good, if the content is really high quality and is being shared and linked to. - 4 articles published in high ranking article directories. Not good. - 3 social profile with links/blog comments on .edu/.gov with links/classified ad links. Not good. - 1 slideshare presentation with links. Good, if it's getting shared and linked to.

I see you have planned to slowly poison your website in the longer run as many of the tactics are very low quality or give no positive value to the website.
If I will be at your place this will be the following plan I would have preferred. (Plan always get changed from industry to industry but I am considering this as a general plan)
- Research and gather the list of all the important and high quality directories that are relevant in your niche and get links for all (it won’t be more than 50 ~ 60).
- Find the blogs in your industry allow me to write a guest post on their blogs, shortlist the one that contain more social, traffic and DA and will target them for guest posting. 4 to 5 a month will be fine.
- 6 to 8 Posts on your own website blog (no micro sites) is great, keep the promotion plan on... writing a blog is not enough.
- 1 Slide share << go for it... no harm in it but remember it should have to have a value or else it’s like dumping your time in to waste bin.
- Manual Outreaching fir links.. This can be like link sleuthing, promoting any viral stuff that is available on your website or may be following the competitor’s links wisely.
- Press Release should not have a number... use this only when you think you have something new regarding your company that will attract users. Use it to entertain users and not get links...
I know the plan available here is not complete but still way better than the one you have! You plan give a strong feeling that it revolves around getting links (many tactics you have mentioned will offer your low quality links only.) and my plan is more towards users and targeted audience so that you get only high quality links naturally.
SEO has changed a lot not instead of building links you have to create scenarios and situations that attract links naturally.
Hope this helps!

Best practice in terms of link volume in a page
Hi everyone! Done a site audit recently and found that some articles in our Resource content (where we generally put useful industry news/posts) have multiple links in it (4 to 9 links in a single article). And these are usually internal links (within our domain), but there are few mixed with external domains. What we would like to know: What's the best practice in terms of regulating number of links (internal or external) in an article? Another case I noticed, some links in our articles appeared to be targeting same landing page, just different anchor texts used. Will this get us into trouble? Thanks in advanced for your help.

What are Best Practices for Ault Site SEO
Has anyone here had experience doing SEO for an Adult DVD website? A company has approached me and they obviously only want White Hat practices. I have used open site explorer to do research on some competitors. The top competitors of this company seem to have only a few high PR links from High Authority industry sites and almost all have a link from the Yahoo Directory. Does anyone know where or how to create high authority content links from this niche? It seems that most of the competitor links are on sub par pages and are single links in the side nav of other sites. I am not sure if I can post a link to the company here but any suggestions on link building for adult sites would be great. Please remember they are a retailer and don't have pop up advertising or any illegal content. Thanks,

How to work with directories for SEO?
Hi, How many directory links do you tend to build in 1 month? And what do you look for in a directories before you submit? I could build 2 links a day from directories but the thought of 60 links being built a month from directories shouts bad news to me. I've had a look and come across a few directories with high DA/PA but at the end of the day they are just link directories, no content, lots of thin pages with lots of links pointing out. A couple of examples of good directories would help. Cheers

Page Rank Sculpting
Just a thought. With the way pagerank works and passing link juice evenly across all your links. Would it make sense to structure your site so that each page passes your all your link juice from lets say your homepage to another page. Then that page would contain all the link juice from the homepage. Then do the same thing with the next pages. For instance Homepage - linkjuice 10 link1 - follow link2 rel=nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link1 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 - follow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link2 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 - follow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link3 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 - follow link5 rel=nofollow Link4 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 - follow and so on. Theoretically would'nt this help pass a ton if not all of link juice to your main links? Sorry if this is a dumb question, it's late and sometimes my mind goes places 🙂

Remove Unatural Links by SEO Co.
The SEO firm we hired built 2797 links with 123 domain within two month period (March and April) when we don't know better. We received Google's warning on 3/28, and they didn't tell us anything but keep building. Well, that's history now. We learned our lesson. That's why we are a member of SEOmoz. The SEO firm is not too keen on helping us remove the link (we've discontinue the service) after one initial attempt to a few site with tons of links (performed by their Indian team). I've got advice from this Forum regarding link removal. The most suggestions we get is to remove it as many as possible and move on building good links. But, I am afraid such approach will take us years to come ahead as we are under staffed. I saw here that someone mentioned their link building firm wants to charge $10 for links removed. Based on that idea, I wonder if I should offer some monetary incentive? If so, what amount would make financial sense?

Correlation between Page Rank of the Home Page and Internal Pages?
I have noticed that Domains with high page rank for their home page also tend to have high page rank for their Internal Pages irrespective of the Quality of the Internal Pages Is there any direct correlation between the "Page Rank of the Home Page" and "Page Rank of the Internal Pages" and, if Yes, then to what extent?

How to focus SEO efforts on a single country?
I hope this one isn't too obvious a question to ask, as I'm sure it's been asked before. However - I'm considering a new site which would be focussed entirely on a UK market. US and other world traffic would be effectively useless. Using social media and standard linkbuilding techniques, how do I focus my efforts on the UK market? Getting links from .co.uk, I guess - what else? Or is it just "SEO generally and some of it'll be for the UK"?
