Should we be using a blog for news

Our domain has/had a blog on a seperate subdomain. However we were a little slack in always keeping this up to date when we are particularly busy.
Rather than reinstating the blog, I have been adding all our new articles directly onto the website rather than as blog posts.
Is there any advantage from an SEO perspective to posting articles to a blog rather than as content on a site?

If your new articles are crawlable, indexable and well linked to internally they will do just fine from an SEO perspective.
The main advantages I see to using a blog is the built-in features the platform provides (content management, themes, plug-ins, rss feeds).

How many backlinks should I incluede in guest blog?
Hello MOZ I really need some help here and would love your advice! I have access to a fantastic PBN through my sister's work colleague who is an experienced marketing director. The PBN is relative to my industry and are all DA 50+ My sister is a copywriter and is putting content together around 500-600 words long. My questions are: How many backlinks should she include in each guest blog post? Are 2 too many? Should the anchor text keywords be exact to the products I am selling? From a company perspective; would you recommend using a service like postloop to acquire additional blog comments through paying users.
I’m always hesitant when it comes to purchasing comments but it seems like a natural approach. Is this something that Google would take notice and/or frown upon? - Anything we should avoid? Any additional information would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

How can I rank using translated content?
My friend has a website with similar content to mine, in a different language however. He has allowed me to translate his content if I link to it every post (can be nofollow). Does Google penalize me for clearly translated content? How can I make sure it ranks well? BTW, if I convince him that I don't link to him, is it better SEO-wise? Best,

Duplicate content for manually setup blog and wordpress blog
We have a website where the ecommerce will not allow us to host blog. So we created our own manual blog page setup. Will this flag duplicate content on Google? http://www.homesupershops.com/blog and http://www.homesupershops.com/blog-july have same content. How come on a word press the same content on http://www.vizionseo.com/blog/ and http://www.vizionseo.com/blog/2011/05/how-can-your-business-rank-high-on-google-maps/ does not flag duplicate content?

What are the best reasons not to use Wordpress as a CMS?
