SEMRUSH--- Tool Review
-
Please review this tool on your personal experiences with it.
I used it on my domain and it reported Search Engine traffic as 10% of it's real (google analytics) traffic. I haven't really mastered GA or SEMRush but I am getting a bad taste.
Please indicate your experiences. Tell me what you use the tool for. What are it's competitors etc...

The biggest things that you want to use SEMrush for are keyword research and competitive analysis. If you need a backlink tool Moz is superior.
Here are 3 videos, the first is a helpful FAQ they put out to help people understand the tool. The second is a nice how to and the third is how to using data mining for offpage factors. Again you can sub in Moz DA/PA for some of the offpage metrics.

I don't know of any other tools that do what SEMRush does as far as telling you the organic keywords any given website ranks for. I have had a membership for years (actually since it went by the name SEODigger) and apparently my rate has been grandfathered in. I just took a look at the price plans now and see that $69.95/month is the cheapest plan now, which is a lot more than what I've been paying. While I love SEMRush, I will admit that I would have to think twice before considering paying that much. Hopefully SEOmoz will build their own version of SEMRush soon!

It's really a shame that Semrush doesn't offer dutch results.
Contacted them about it and it would be a possibility but then I have to pay huge amounts of money for it to be created (NO THANKS).
Not my favorite tool.

I am seeing a lot less value in this tool tonight. I realized when mailing reports it has their logo all over it. You have to pay $150 a month just to get a "custom logo" on the pdf.
This tool is basically a Keyword tracker. It gives me all of the SERPS a site ranks for. It seems amazing at that but that does seem to be it's only utility.
What other tools can do this reliably without the price tag?

Do you think their analytics on PPC is correct? It seems pretty inaccurate... Has anyone checked it against their actual PPC campaign to see if it was right?
I don't know if SEMRush is worth the money though. I really liked having it in the RavenTools suite. It's now not going to be offered.
Does Web Master Tools have information on what serps your page is in? I didn't know lol. That dramatically decreased the value of SEMRush. Is the google provided data not as detailed?

I don't really pay attention to "% of traffic" or "estimated traffic" numbers from SEMRush or any of the other third-party tools like Alexa, Compete, Quantcast, etc. since they are all notoriously inaccurate.
That being said, I love SEMRush.com since it provides data about which keywords a particular website is ranking for and does it instantly. This is especially useful to find out what your competitors are ranking for since they might be targeting some keyword phrases that you didn't even think of which you can then add to your own keyword list.
SEMRush is also quite useful for uncovering keyword phrases that you didn't even know your site ranked for since you weren't getting any traffic from that keyword and thus you didn't see any data in Google Analytics. SEMRush is great because sometimes it reveals that your site ranks 19th on Google for "longtail profitable keyword" when you weren't even trying to target that phrase. So an easy win would be to beef up the content/on-page SEO for that keyword and try to move up the rankings enough to start getting actual traffic from that phrase. (This was a life saver before Google Webmaster Tools came out with their Search Queries report which offers similar data, although I still find SEMRush useful.)

Google Keyword Tool Alternatives
Hey All, So ever since Google shut down the Keyword Tool we have used the keyword planner and a few other tools only to find they aren't quite the same, I was wondering what everyone is using now to get there keyword research and average traffic estimates ? We previous used keyword tool for phrase match and now not much offers phrase match or provides us with what seems as accurate results. We have tried Word Tracker after a numerous amount of research to find a alternative to the keyword tool, and found that the results are very different from the Google Keyword Planner, 1 noticeable result would be of "Web Design Melbourne", in Word Tracker it showed the average search of 9,900 (per month or year I'm not sure) and we compared that to the Google Keyword Planner and it showed 3,000. I have looked over a number of tools and found they weren't quite what we are looking for (Word Tracker, SEMRush, Google Keyword Planner) so I have turned to the MOZ Community. So my first question for everyone would be: A) what do you use for Keyword research and average search estimates now (any good tools with phrase match)? B) If you have used Word Tracker have you found accurate results in your keyword research? If you have found any tools that have proved beneficial and useful please let me know 🙂 (paid or free) Thank you

Competitor research: No data / results displaying on Keyword tools, Aexa
Hi there! I'm trying to research a few competitors using various Keyword tools (SEM Rush, Compete, Keyword Spy -- even Alexa for high level insight). While the bulk of the competitors generate expected results through these tools (a smattering of their top organic and paid search keywords, some traffic estimations through Alexa), ONE of these competitors lists "No results" across all categories and all tools: http://www.bgstar.ca Despite this, we know that they invest heavily in search -- and my SEM Rush toolbar indicates that they have a Google PR of 5 (though I recognize that that should be taken with a grain of salt). So I'm stumped! Has anyone encountered this before? Is there something structural that they might be doing, that's blocking not only Google-based platforms, but Alexa too? Thanks for your help!

Is there any tool available in the market where there is a ranking list of fastest growth in Domain and Page Authority? I launched a job site 8 months ago and I am curious to see what % of websites (not just job specific) have experienced faster growth in a similar time frame in Domain and Page Authority to get a sense of what may have been accomplished. thank you very much,

What is the best tool to monitor your competitor's backlinks?
I am looking for a tool that not only accurately tells me how many links are being built by a competitor, I want to know the specific URLs for specific periods. If I can filter/search by time periods, i.e which links were added for the month of August, 2012, that would be great. Thanks for the help.

Keyword Research Tool Problem
Hi, I had been in SEO for around 2 to 3 years, I am looking for your suggestion if there is any best keyword research tool. I tried almost most of the keyword research tool (both paid or free) but I found the following problem: -Worktracker: I think it is too difficult to use and understand as a non technical person. I always wonder the data accuracy because when the same keyword appear in Google for few thousand traffic, it only appear in Wordtracker for few dozen or hundred of search. Also I don't think they suggest any long trail keywords in my view. The long trail keyword you can also find in free keyword search tool. -Google Keywords Tool- Good, but it can only show 100 results. I cannot get a better pictures of related or niches keywords. I always find some competitive keywords can rank easily but some non competitive keywords usually very difficult to rank in some case. It will depend on how you interpret the data results. -Keyword Discovery and Wordstream-Although I really want to subscribe, but they are a way too expensive (you have to subscribe for 12 months). I check with their free keywords tool but only shown very limited results. Although there are some other like spyfu.com or keywords spy...... Is there any one can suggest me which is the best tool to start with keyword search for the long trail and niche keywords ? or is there any way or trick to find the best keywords ? Thank you. Tom

Is there a tool that will tell me how many visitors per day a website receives?
Hey guys, I am new to SEOMoz and have setup my first campaign, so far very impressed with what is possible. However I am trying to find out how much traffic a website is getting, as I know that people can be high up on certain keywords but are not actually generating any traffic from them. Can anyone help? Also I have a potential client who is ranking really high on alexa because of its american traffic, yet when I asked them they get very few bookings from americans. How can I view the UK ranking of the site? Thanks Andy
