Cocitation with just address?
-
Hi All,
Rand made a video the other week about cocitations and their benefit.
He mentioned that you should try and get your number and/or address in as many locations as possible.
My question is: is only the address sufficient?
I work for a recruitment agency and they obviously do not want the phone number on job advertisements due to the volume of calls that we would receive. We could though most likely place the address and business name in the text as it's relevant to the job ad and could potentially benefit our G+ listing.
How much of a boost would 20 or so cocitations a month give to a medium competition local search term in G places?
Thanks.

Hello,
The authority of the domain is not huge and sits at 23 as we have not yet bothered with the main website due to a variety of reasons. The domain was registered in 1998 and has not been dropped since.
We currently rank in the top 5 for all keywords without any SEO at all. Basically the web dev has access to the site and needs to make the appropriate changes as me doing it would push him out of the work he would get doing it.
There is some personal issues with the web dev meaning that we can't get him to sort it for another couple of months and I've only been at the company a couple of months so far.
The issues at the moment are fairly serious and I'm talking no title tags and no www to none www and the other common onpage SEO dramas. I know that optimizing the website would give us a massive boost.
The authority of the cocitations would be on extremely popular job websites with authorities of 60+ the sort that are known by everyone and rank for pretty much every job related keyword.
Thanks.

Yes, what Rand posted was theoretical and just posting the address would theoretically give you a boost as well (just thinking from a crawler POV). I would add a link where you could since that is still the best way to earn a citation.

Current rankings? Authority of your site? Authority of the cocitations? Relevance of content w/ cocictations? Even if we knew all those, there are too many variables to say for sure. Only one way to find out

Did we just have a rolling Penguin update?
I just had a page/keyword that had an algorithmic penalty jump in rank significantly. Once was ranked 3, ranked 80+ since October 2012, overnight it jumped to 31.

Does the page title keyword count in anchor text when link is web address?
If someone links to my plumbing site with this link as the anchor text: http://www.plumbers.com/austin-plumbers.html does the key phrase "austin plumbers" get counted in the anchor text by google or is this a sample of anchor text that google ignores? Thanks mozzers! Ron

Don't use an h1 and just use h2's?
We just overhauled our site and as I was auditing the overhaul I noticed that there were no h1's on any of the pages. I asked the company that does our programming why and he responded that h1's are spammed so much so he doesn't want to put them in. Instead he put in h2's. I can't find anything to back this up. I can find that h1's are over-optimized but nothing that says to skip them altogether. I think he's crazy. Anyone have anything to back him up?

Why doesn't everyone just purchase a .org tld?
Hi, I am new-ish to SEO, and something just dawned on me today. I have read in many places that .org domains rank higher (even if slightly) than .coms. Then why doesn't everyone just purchase .org TLDs? For example, in my industry, most good .com domain names are taken, but .orgs are almost all free. Why not purchase a .org and capitalize on exact match search results? seomoz is .org and it's far from being a non-profit 🙂
