To 301 Redirect or NOT?

Hi,
This site has been so helpful in receiving not only answers to my questions but explanations too. With so many opinions and motives on the internet explanations help one to decide in which way to go. Here is my dilimna, as always, all input is welcome and very appreciated!
I have a site that has more links to www.domain.com and less to http://domain.com , however, for our local search and I do not know why - our http://domain.com has better position in search engines and (www.domain.com has way more links) Is there any reason for this?
However, in generic term, (no locality mentined) our www.domain.com shows up in the results.
My site is hosted on Yahoo webhositng which does not allow for .htaccess 301 redirects, someone on this board was really nice and has alerted me to Godaddy (my domain is hosted there) and introduced me to a DNS 301. I called Godaddy and they said it would be possible, and also told me that I would lose all my email with Yahoo. I have managed to backup the email and am leaning towards the Godaddy- DNS redirect, just wanted to know if I would see a big difference in SEO.
Links (different root domains) currently - http://domain.com 55, www.domain.com 1000 plus.

I would probably 301 the non-www version of your domain to the www version. This is your best bet becasuse if you don't already, you may have duplicate content issues arise in the future. Godaddy's DNS 301 works fine, i've used it before with no adverse effect.
What I would then do in Google Webmaster Tools is verify both domains, and specify the www version of the domain as the preferred version. This should solve the issues your having.

Site Hacked: Is it Faster and Better to 301 or 404 Irrelevant URLs?
Hey Everyone, So our site was hacked which created a large amount of irrelevant URLs on our domain; resulting in thousands of 404 errors and pages coming up for searches unrelated to our brand. The question is now that the issues have been resolved (and site re-submitted) would it be quicker (and more ideal) to redirect important 404 errors that see traffic, have links…etc. although not relevant or just let everything 404 out? We’re not as concerned with offering a relevant user experience because these are not in our demographic but want to avoid these pages convoluting our analytics as well as issues that might arise from Google thinking these topics do apply. Redirecting all URLs appended with index.htm or index.html
It has come to my attention with one of my clients (WordPress website) that for some time they have within their Landing Page report (of GA - Google Analytics) URLs that should all be pointing to the one page, example: domain.com/about-us, also has a listing in GA as domain.com/about-us/index.htm Is this some kind of indication of a subdirectory issue? Has anyone had experience with this in such wordpress plugins as Yoast SEO, or other SEO plugin? My thoughts here are to simply redirect any of these non-existent files with a redirect in .htaccess - but what I'm using isn't working. Tracking sessions from a sub-domain that is 301 redirected to main domain
Hi, one of my client is launching a new site on a subdomain newsite.brand.com.au but will use a shorter URL on the packaging on their new rang of products to be sold in supermarkets, prompting shoppers to visit xxx.brand.com.au. This specific sub-domain xxx.brand.com.au will be 301 redirecting to newsite.brand.com.au How can I identify and track accurrately all the visits coming from xxx.brand.com.au to newsite.brand.com.au?The visits from sub-domain xxx.brand.com.au will be attributed to direct channel I guess. Is it worth adding GA on this 301 redirected sub-domain xxx.brand.com.au or there another way to identify those visits on newsite.brand.com.au ?

I changed all the links from an online store as follows: Before: www.domain.com/store1/category/product (link to a product, in magento e-commerce)
After: www.domain.com/category/product (link to a product). Basically I removed the stores, and made 1 default / base store, and put a 301 redirect (from .htacces). My question is:
1. How bad i broke the seo, cause i was no.1 on 30 keywords with these structure of links, and these kinds of link had page rank 2-3.
2. Does redirect 301 from old link, transfer the Page rank?
3. I should modify all link from link building to the new link? I mean urgent?
4. Does google will reindex the keywords with the new links? Thank you in advance.

What type of links/redirect is Yahoo! using?
So I'm trying to figure out exactly what type redirect or hyperlinking Yahoo! is using on their article pages. For example:

Right or left click it, it gives you a 302 redirect. When you actually left click it, it adds and "id" attribute, I assume for tracking. However, when you left click the the hyperlink, it no longer shows as a 302. I have limited working knowledge of web development techniques, so anyone with advance knowledge or have actually done this, it'd be helpful to understand this more.0 -
How to set up a 301 redirect
I have just started using SEOmoz and found that we have both a www.adagiowaterfeatures.com site and a adagiowaterfeatures.com site. I have not been able to figure out how to set up the 301 redirect so the non-www site automatically goes to the www site. If anyone can tell me how the non-www site was set up to begin with I'd be interested. We only set up one site. Thanks!

301 redirect visible on Google.
Hello, This is a strange one for me. We have 301 redirected our .com domain to the .co.uk domain. The strange thing is that if you gogole the .com domain (theloanengine.com) there is a result with the website description. If you click on the result you are redirected tot he website homepage. One other thing: I've discovered this 301 issue because Google Analytics started to show me a few days ago referrals from the .com domain. I don't know if these things are connected. Cornel

301 Tracking with Google Analytics hurts SEO?
Hey guys, I have an old-domain.com and a new-domain.com. old-domain.com has reputation and through a 301 redirect it's handling it over to new-domain.com. I want to know how many people still visit old-domain.com and track this with Google Analyitcs. I read the best solution for this would be a Google Campaign URL. My question: Does a URL like "http://www.new-domain.com /?utm_source=&utm_medium=redirect&utm_campaign=" hurt the effectiveness of the 301 redirect?
