Google + Local Pages
-
Hi,
If I have a company with multipul addresses, Do I create separate Google + page for each area?
-
Hmm, what about a G+ business page that is not verified? ie if I want to post something on a G+ community as the service company, I can not do that without a company page... Is it really best to delete the company G+ page? Lets say wee add a G+ button to our site, that links to the G+ page, correct? Do we not have the same privileges other sites do because we are a service?
-
Hi Bryan, If you have a Google+ BUSINESS page, yes, Google is saying to delete it now, and yes, manage multi locations via the old Places dash. For more on this deletion thing, read this: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/business/technical-issue/MI5yJcP1pJ8 It won't affect every business, but it will affect service radius businesses who built a Google+ Business page. Take care!

Hi Miriam,
Thanks for the response.
In short if we have a multi location business it's best to use the old places dashboard, and if it's a services only niche, such as a cleaning service, it's best to delete the Google + places page. Correct?
-
Hi Bryan,
Unfortunately, at this point, multi-location businesses are still not being supported by the new Google+ Local system. There is no way to link multiple Google+ Local pages within a single brand and you should not attempt to create a Google+ Local page for each location or to try to merge them. Clark has linked you to an early article on this from Mike Blumenthal from around the time that Google rolled out Google+ Local, but read one of Mike's more recent posts on the huge amount of issues going on with this before you make a move in any direction:
http://blumenthals.com/blog/2012/11/28/having-issues-with-your-glocal-social-merge-my-advice-dont/
So, for multi-location businesses, you can still create a listing for each unique address via the old Places dashboard, but should not try to create a Google+Local page for each of them. At some point, this will be possible, but it hasn't happened yet, so you will need to stay tuned into the news on this which is constantly being updated. Just last week, for example, Google announced that all service radius businesses have to delete their Google+ Business page (if they have one). This is a brand new rule that will affect countless businesses adversely if they don't happen to hear about it. Point being: with all things related to the whole Google+ system and especially with Google+ Local, you've got to stay on top of the news on a daily basis.
Hope this helps!

This is a post from Blumenthal on the subject --> http://blumenthals.com/blog/2012/08/03/step-by-step-guide-to-the-google-businesslocal-merge-verification-process/
This is from Google Product Forums --> http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/business/cLdShAg9xYs[1-25-false]
In short yes, I have found you will need to create seperate pages for each location. This is a pain in my opinion and is something I wish G+ would clean up.

Local SEO: Is an equivalent of "practitioner listings" allowed for tradesmen, such as plumbers - in GMB (Google My Business)
I note practitioner listings are in place for certain professionals, so you can list your business address and then your individual name - one under a "practice listing" - the other under a "practitioner listing". As detailed here: https://whitespark.ca/blog/best-practices-for-practitioner-listings-on-google-my-business-gmb/ But can a self-employed tradesman do the same - for example a carpenter may have their workshop and be available for onsite work, so can they list their "carpentry business/brand name" and then their "personal name" they are also known by? Even if it is the same address.

Ranking slipped to page 6 from page 1 over the weekend?
My site has been on page one for 2 phrases consistently from May onwards this year. The site has fewer than 100 backlinks and the link profile looks fairly even. On Friday we were on page 1, we even had a position 1, however now we are on page 6. Do you think this is Penguin or some strange Google blip? We have no webmaster tools messages at all. Thanks for any help!

How long does google take to show the results in SERP once the pages are indexed ?
Hi...I am a newbie & trying to optimize the website www.peprismine.com. I have 3 questions - A little background about this : Initially, close to 150 pages were indexed by google. However, we decided to remove close to 100 URLs (as they were quite similar). After the changes, we submitted the NEW sitemap (with close to 50 pages) & google has indexed those URLs in sitemap. 1. My pages were indexed by google few days back. How long does google take to display the URL in SERP once the pages get indexed ? 2. Does google give more preference to websites with more number of pages than those with lesser number of pages to display results in SERP (I have just 50 pages). Does the NUMBER of pages really matter ? 3. Does removal / change of URLs have any negative effect on ranking ? (Many of these URLs were not shown on the 1st page) An answer from SEO experts will be highly appreciated. Thnx !

Rel canonical on every page, pointing to home page
I've just started working with a client and have been surprised to find that every page of their site (using Concrete5 CMS) has a rel=canonical pointing to their home page. I'm feeling really dumb, because this seems like a fatal flaw which would keep Google from ranking any page other than the home page... but when I look at Google Analytics, Content > Site Content > Landing Pages, using Secondary Dimension = Source, it seems that Google is delivering users to numerous pages on their site. Can anyone help me out?! Thanks very much!!

Disallowed Pages Still Showing Up in Google Index. What do we do?
We recently disallowed a wide variety of pages for www.udemy.com which we do not want google indexing (e.g., /tags or /lectures). Basically we don't want to spread our link juice around to all these pages that are never going to rank. We want to keep it focused on our core pages which are for our courses. We've added them as disallows in robots.txt, but after 2-3 weeks google is still showing them in it's index. When we lookup "site: udemy.com", for example, Google currently shows ~650,000 pages indexed... when really it should only be showing ~5,000 pages indexed. As another example, if you search for "site:udemy.com/tag", google shows 129,000 results. We've definitely added "/tag" into our robots.txt properly, so this should not be happening... Google showed be showing 0 results. Any ideas re: how we get Google to pay attention and re-index our site properly?
