UK SERPS update
-
Hi All,
Anyone else seeing major changes in the google.co.uk SERPS results.Across about 12 different clients we have seen gains and loses. Sub pages seems to be suffering more than homepages. Any idea what has been targeted? With think it might be anchor text but were not sure.
Noticed first dips on Monday and it has been rolling out across different niches all week.
Thanks

Definitely seeing major swings across a load of sites I monitor daily. Massive changes just after midnight on 17th. Then when checked again a few hours later all change. Up, down. Bonkers. Seemed more deep pages affected than home page on a lot of the sites.

Definitely seeing swings across the board in UK SERPS. Some clients way up, some down. A lot of sites that are ranking in the top 10 are using low quality blog comment spam, obviously purchased links etc. Looks like we've taken a giant step back.
Just need to look at results for a term like payday loans or short term loans to see just what's working at the moment.

Talking about it right here in fact - please allow me to repeat myself:
I can definitely feel a big update coming. Either targeting fake social signals or making a real crackdown on disguised paid links.
In one of my other projects, I've seen a lot of volatility in the top 10 for a keyword - with all the major dancers having a huge amount of paid blogroll and homepage links in their link profile.
If Google is cracking down on them, I'd seriously love them.
(Thumbs up if you get the song reference)

Tracking PDF downloads from SERP clicks
For the longest time, our company policy has always been to put PDFs in a secure folder (hence they are not indexed and do not appear in search results). After evaluating this strategy, there has been clamor in recent months to allow Google to index our whitepapers. My question: Once PDFs start appearing in search results, what is the best way to start tracking clicks due to these "downloads"?

Sudden drop in traffic since website redesign – can't spot double firing sessions pre-update
Hi all, We launched an updated website around mid-April and have seen a long-term drop in unique page views and sessions since then. Between 25-35%. Page views returned to normal within a month, however. In terms of acquisition, we've not lost referrals or direct traffic, just organic sessions. I haven't seen any significant Google updates except for 'Fred' but that was in March (pre-website update). We did have to do some 301s and fix up an HTML and XML sitemap, etc, post launch – but that's been in place for a while now so shouldn't still have such an effect? We are also struggling with load speed at the moment, working on this at the moment. Didn't think this had a such a significant impact on ranking however. We've lost mostly non-UK traffic, especially USA. We're actually climbing rankings for a lot of new keywords I'm targeting, so I can't see how our SEO has been hampered. Frustratingly, I wasn't using Search Console or Moz Pro before this update, so can't compare much in the way of keyword traffic (I know I feel very silly now). I don't know if it's a reporting issue (I wish it was). I mean we had both GTM and GA tags on the website (I didn't know this until I looked into it) but these were present post website-launch. And I haven't found enough double firing sessions or page views to suggest we used to be getting double figures anyway. Before this, we were ranking brilliantly and getting more organic traffic than ever. All the best,

What is the "UPDATE" indicate in the Google Search Console Query Reports?
We recently noticed an update note in the Google Search Console that happened on April 27th. Does this denote an algorithm update? Any feedback or article would really be helpful. Thanks! gfQ8FG9.jpg

No PageRank Update...Why So Slow?
I've got 100s of new pages over a year old, all with quality content, yet they're all still at PR0. The main index page has a PR score of 4, yet all the other pages of the site are still at 0. They're are all unique and highly relevant pages. Anybody else notice Google's taking longer to rank pages? Why is Google taking so long to update PageRank?

Google.co.uk (The Web or Pages From UK) Query?
Hi, Google.co.uk is ambiguous at best, it is geo targeted for the UK, however, by default all results incorporate "The Web" meaning outside the UK. If a user wishes to filter to "Pages From UK" then they have to click that specifically. Now my clients regularly ask me whether the traffic they are getting is from Google.co.uk (The Web) or Google.co.uk (Pages from UK) In analytics it combines these two as single source = Google.co.uk without any further breakdown, is there a way to figure this out. If I can split the figures then I can run necessary additional comparisons etc. Regards Ausaf

Why is a section of our website dropping in&out of Google SERPs?
In July 2011 we started a news section that has it's own 'subfolder' /news/ (http://www.chorder.com/news/new_gear/, http://www.chorder.com/news/gear_deals/ etc.) The whole news section is dropping in&out of Google SERP's since late October, as show in attached graph. All news texts are real deal, written by our own staff, linked from homepage. Any idea why this happens and how to prevent it? cmqky.png

Any updates regarding 'not provided' organic keyword referrals in Google Analytics?
I know that the encrypted searches done by people logged into their Google accounts is causing the error, is there any workaround or any update from Google as to IF they will give us our keyword data back? I'm currently losing data on about 20% of my daily searches . . .
