Problem with Plugin: Wordpress SEO by Yoast
-
Hi Hi,
I'm using the Plugin "Wordpress SEO by Yoast". Unfortunatelly, this plugin generates a sourcecode looking like this:
name='description' content='XXXXXX.'/>
Seomoz can't read this and tells me, that my pages have no description. Google doesn't matter and reads it correct. Is there anything I can do about this?
Many greetings
André

Hi Dan,
sorry, that I haven't answered for so long! Yes, it was the update! The version I used before was ages old...
Now it works fine!
Thank you

Hi!
Thanks, I'm viewing the source code now and it appears correct.
I would definitely update Yoast. Its great now, but the old version was known to break certain things.
Then let us know if you're all set.
Thanks!

Hi Dan,
here you can find one of those pages: http://www.selbstbehauptungsakademie.de/blog/2012/03/12/freundschaft-bei-kindern/
And yes, the description is inserted in a Yoast-Formfield.
I have seen, that the Plugin has the Versionnumber 0.4.2. I think that version is very, very old. Maybe that is my problem and I will try an update before comlaining again...
Best regards

Hi
What page type are you getting this on? Categories, tags, posts, pages? Every page?
Did you fill out the description templates under Yoast->Titles?
Its strange Moz does this and not Google. Can you provide your site or a screen shot of the source code (view source on your browser)?
Thanks!

Hi Shane,
many thanks for your answer, but I'm not sure, if I'm getting you right. I'm no programmer, so I don't know what "forcing rewrite" means. Do you think, I have to change the sourcecode in the plugin from ' to " ??
Maybe out there is another user of Yoast (I know there are... ;), who know this problem, too?
Thank you very much
André

I am not an expert on this plugin by any means - but did you force rewrite? - or manually change in header.php? (or where ever the expression resides in your template) to the correct php expression to correctly re-write the meta?
<title><?php wp_title(''); ?></title>
I know that forcing re-write can have inconsistent results sometimes...
Hope this helps, but not sure

Change SEO focus from homepage to other page on the domain
Hi, we are (were) ranking top 5 with gietvloer-wand.nl by focussing the homepage for a certain keyword. We're trying to change to focus from the homepage to /gietvloeren with more content / information. How to go about this? how to tell Google that /gietvloeren is more relevant / important then than the homepage? Or any experiences how long it will take for Google to see that the page has more information than the homepage? It's a test and any experiences you can share would be great. Thanks!

Our SEO suggests thinning our homepage - is this a good idea?
We provide a single medical service in London. Our domain is "service"london.co.uk. Our home page consists of: Welcome message (40 words) Reasons why customers choose us (720 words) - as bullet points Benefits of the service (380 words - as 6 subheadings) Then a small sample of testimonials It currently looks word doc boring so that's definitely an area we are talking to our designer about. We currently rank second or third for our most popular keywords which are mostly variations of "service london" - these go straight to our home page. Our competitors do the same. The only other pages that rank are /pricing (for "service london price") and /reviews (for a tiny proportion of rarer keywords) The main variations in the services we provide is adult and children. We have /adults and /children pages for this where we describe the actual procedures (these are relatively new pages so perhaps they will rank for "adult/children service london" in the future, but right now, they still go to the home page). Now our SEO agency suggests we spread the content into more pages: Why us page, Benefits of service page etc., (also suggested we add more high quality content pages). Our home page will be similar to what moz suggested on whiteboard Friday - a few key points then directing them towards the sub-pages to read more. However I am unsure if this is suitable for us where the great majority of our organic traffic comes from "service london". These visitors should ideally still come to our home page and I'm not sure if Google will be thrilled that my home page is now poorer in terms of content despite the fact that the home page still links to these high quality pages on my site. Would really appreciate this beautiful community's insights on this. Thank you.

Is a resource page bad for SEO
This is the page http://www.christoit.com/free-resources/articles. While this page isn't what I would consider to be a "resource page" (there are no downloads or any other resources) The question is, does a page like this that just has links to articles, hurt the overall ranking of the site. If you have any examples to support your opinion that would be great! Thanks so much for all awesome threads and answers on this site. There are some really smart people all in one place!

On Site Problem Caused Rankings To Drop?
I'm getting to the bottom of why my site dropped rankings on the 9th March. I noticed that in google there is a cached version of my site on 9th March at 8.37am which is when my rankings dissapeared. Presumably this is when google last crawled my site? I guess this means that google found something on the home page or on the site that it didn't like? I wonder if anyone can take a look and let me know if there's anything obvious. Could it be a duplicate content penalty as I have lots of categories pulling content from the same posts?
