Attacked with spam links.
-
Our website was hit with the "Pharma hack", "Google Cloaking Hack", or "Blackhat SEO Spam". and Google showed in the results this website may be compromised.
After cleaning out the hack from the website I chacked with the Seomoz tool Open Site Explorer and I found that they hacked 1000 of other websites and created links to my website. They were building a few 1000 links to the website with the clickable text "buy cheap online pharmacy". and more like that.
This website www.washington23.com has been hacked and gives over 200 links to your website for pharmacy items. And Google considers this from your impotent links as i can see in webmasters.
What can I do about it?
-
Would you think I should also use the google disavow links tool?
-
I will start working on it Sunday and I will come back here to report.
-
Don't sweat it, it will give you something to do or you can probably outsource that real cheap. It's grunt work.
No problem, getting hacked sucks and I want to wring the neck of the person responsible. Feel free to mark as good answer or give us a thumbs up
Visit the site and see if they have a contact us form or email addressmost sites do, only spam sites hide that info because they don't want to be contacted.
you can also go to godaddy.com and check the registrar information and see the email of the person the domain name is registered to if the don't have registration set to private (spam sites usually are domain by proxy private)
-
Thanks both of you!
Dose anyone have some good tips how to do this all quickly, finding there emails etc it can be a big job.
-
I like yours better, i was trying to avoid being technical because sometimes the owner gets the email or whatever and it may go over their head.
The important thing is that they are made aware that they have viagra links on their site, and to let whoever handles their website coding know that they have a serious issue to the health and rankings of their site.
-
Yosepgr,
First it's important to not spell important as "impotent", especially after Irving's reference to viagra.
Write something like this:
I noticed your website at {put web address here} was linking to mine several hundred times. I visited your site to see why you liked my site so much and noticed that it's because your website appears to have been hacked.
You should consider cleaning up all of the links the hackers put in to your website so that you do not get a penalty from Google. You should also consider taking some safety precautions to prevent this from happening in the future. Some things you can do is check your site to see where SQL Injections may occur. You might also put in Captcha validations where your users are able to input information/register for your site.
I hope all goes well with your cleanup.
-
Short and sweet - something like this:
Hi,
I am the SEO at mysite.com and I noticed your site was hacked! If you look in the source code of your homepage you can see hidden links to pharma sites in your source code. This can definitely result in your site being completely banned in Google.
I'm telling you this because our site was already banned, and we lost a lot of traffic as a result of this hack. You might want to take a look at your site as well and remove the code. Maybe you already know about your site being hacked, if so you can disregard this email. Thanks, Irving
-
Thanks. The website is very impotent to us.
Can you give me an approach how to write to them? (My English is bad....)
-
If your rankings returned you're probably OK but I would at very least look at the biggest offenders with the highest number of links pointing to you and contact those guys first. Also make sure you changed all of the passwords and updated and security issues to make sure it doesn't get hacked again the same way.
Also, since it's one letter you have to craft you can just use it for all of the emails.I'd follow up at least once though a week later just to remind them.
a) visit the site
b) get the email address and webmasters email
c) paste the letter and shoot out the email
I bet I could do that in one day. it's probably worth it if they're spamming links to you, but it really depends on how important the site is to you. If your companies livelihood depends on the sites health then I would say do it.
The good news is the links don't have any of your real keyword phrases in them so you're probably OK even if you do nothing.
-
But there are over 100 websites. This would take weeks.
-
How are your rankings after you removed the hack? has your site returned?
I would reach out to the site owners to let them know they were hacked, a lot of them will figure it out eventually and remove the links but it makes sense to be proactive and tell them their site has viagra links embedded in the code and Google will punish them for this, tell them you noticed it because your site was attacked too so they know you're on their side.

SEO companies that own linking properties
Hi everyone, I do some SEO work for a personal injury attorney, and due to his profession, he gets cold-called by every digital marketing company under the sun. He recently got called by a company that offers packages that include posting in multiple directories (all on domains they own), creating subdomains for search listings, and PR services like writing and distributing press releases for distribution to multiple media outlets. The content they write will obviously not be local. All this and more for less than $500 a month! I'm curious if any of you have any experience with companies like this and whether you consider them black hat. I realize I'm asking you to speculate on a very broad description of what they offer, but their linking strategies sound risky to me. What experiences have you had with companies like this? Do you know anyone who has ever gotten a penalty using these tactics? Thanks, in advance, for sharing your thoughts.

How to deal with link echoes of former hacked websites?
Hi all, I'd know which is the best way to deal with link echoes of former hacked websites that Webmaster tool reports. to clarify: when you download the backlink report from Webmaster tool you'll have a list of backlinks discovered, but if you follow one of those links you will see that on that page there is no link to your website. the source code is also clean, no hidden links or other dodgy technique. Since that the topic is usually miles away from my industry I have to assume at some point that site has been hacked by a spammer who placed that backlink. In this case what should I do? Ignore it, disavow the domain or what? Moreover, which is the best procedure when you have to face a site which points a lot of backlinks from only its sub-domains? For example: this dodgy spammy website : http://px949z32.com/ is apparently a desert, but when you do site:http://px949z32.com/ you'll discover 55,200 results! Would be it be enough to just disavow the root domain http://px949z32.com/?

As I don't want to wait too long before taking any action, my plan is to disavow all those domains without any mercy, although I can't find a current backlink in one of their pages. I will do this, as at the minute my concern is they will be hacked again and I have to face the same issue again and again Thanks to all, P.0 -

Seo back linking proposal review
Hi guys, below is a proposal i received from someone on freelancer.com for some seo building. Is this really all it takes? Obviously done overtime but basically is this it aside from the usual basics onsite keywords, urls, artciles, content etc. This is a the proposal for $250 (some are cheaper but almost the same details as below). This is one of the top seo people on freelancers.com and they all have good reviews. Is this basically it? Shell out $100 bucks or more a month to someone who will just post stuff all over the internet. It just seems all very simple, what is $100 bucks a month to stay at #1. Is there any real questions i should ask to make sure i am not just throwing my money away? I would like to recommend the following services for attaining better search results for the website. 1)Press Release Submissions

Link-Building - Directories
Hello, The SEO world is a bit confuse in the last months with the Google Antartic updates. Its normal since Google is trying to kill SEO to have more Adwords publicity results. My most recent doubt is about directories. I heard Matt Cutts from Google in a recent Google Hangout saying that registering a website in directorys was ok, but not the ideal method to become relevant in the internet world. However it seems that this procedure is not against the Google policies. Now, here in the forums, I already saw someone writing about adding your site to directories and how dangerous that situacion is. So, whats your opinion about adding your site to free and pay directories as first link-building strategy? If directories are out of the question, why SEOmoz as a huge list of paid directorys? Is SEOmoz outdate?

Competitors Developing Spammy Link For My Website
Well Guys there are lot of discussions in almost all the communities, blogs, forums about Post Penguin impact. Google says that if find that you're involved in any link building activities, we may penalize you. People out there have already started their developed links. But what if our competitors would have developed those links. Initially it was okay to develop one way links, I even developed lot of quality, but deliberately, links. around 95% links are placed manually, if return to some favor or money but all links looks natural. Most of the links I developed through content only, like articles, blog comments, PR submission, etc now really skeptical about the quality (after hearing lot of talks and reading n number of posts). Now, can I also submit my competitor's websites in 1000 topic directory (obviously not in any spammy directory), would it effect that website adversely? What if I spun an existing content and submit it into 500 article directories and give backlink to competitor site from using only one anchor text (which is obviously the main keywords - highest sales generating keyword) I look forward to some experts comments.

Partners and Customers logo listing and links
We have just created a program where we list the customers that use our software and a link to their websites on a new "Customers" page. We expect to have upwards of 100 logos with links back to their sites. I want to be sure this isn't bordering on gray or black hat link building. I think it is okay since they are actual users of our software. But there is still that slight doubt. Along these same lines, would you recommend adding a nofollow or noindex tag? Thanks for your help.
