How come my stories end up on bbc news
-
Hi, i get a load of traffic from the bbc news website but not sure how this happens.
For example we had a story the other day and according to my reports the traffic was coming from this page. http://www.bbc.co.uk//news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-21232826
but when i checked today to see the page i can see nothing about our story. BBC news has been really good to us for feeding us traffic but i am not sure how this happens as if i did then i would try and get all our stories seen by them.
Any help would be great in understanding how bbc news is picking up our stories
-
thanks for that, i will do on both accounts. Do not get me wrong it is nice to get the traffic from them, just strange that i do not understand how it happens
-
It maybe that they are adding your website under the article in the 'related internet links' section. Set up a Google Alert and you will get emailed when links appear on the website; then you might be able to locate them.
Private message me if you want to discuss further

i have tried looking in the source code but nothing there but i did not check on the day. I was not aware they have different stories on their site but what i have noticed is, it happens alot.
-
Okay, then when you check for your URL on the page how are you doing that? Do you search for your URL in the source code? It would be good to locate exactly where on the page the URL is placed and from there you will have a better idea of how it's getting put there, or rather where to investigate next! The link might not be obvious on the front page, it could be an image link etc.

Hi, i do not do any paid for advertising so it will not be that
-
Yes, I had that thought too. Davinia makes a good point.

Are you running Adwords?Could be paid advertising on BBC news website that is pushing traffic to your site.
In your traffic report have a look for that URL and filter by a secondary dimension of 'medium'. This will tell you if it is referral traffic or paid advertising. If it is referral then there is (or was) a link to your website on that page. If it is ppc (paid) then it is the Google Ads.

Wow! Diane, I am sure there are a lot of SEOs dying to know your secret to this one? Myself included.
Is it possible that you are producing an RSS feed of your content that the BBC News is picking up and then including in their RSS feed? Just a thought.
Here's an example: http://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml?edition=uk

Google News Referral Traffic Gone after CMS Upgrade
Hoping someone can help. I've tried the Google forum which is it's usual vacuous hole of no help. We recently upgraded our CMS which now includes automated sitemaps (not sure if this impacts news sitemaps, though). Anyway, after rollout, we're no longer getting any traffic from Google News. Sequence of Events: 1. Dec. 13 launch 2. Google news referral traffic stopped 3. IT tried to 'fix' and now we're getting the elusive 'publication name' message The publication name specified in your Sitemap does not match the publication name we have for your site in our database. Please check that the publication name in your Sitemap exactly matches the publication name displayed for your articles in Google News. 4. Retested sitemap When I retest the news sitemap, it returns 0 errors. When I do a site:mnn.com (our website) on the Google New Homepage, new content is showing up in SERP Yet, still no google news referral traffic. Our news sitemap is www.mnn.com/googlenews.xml Can someone help? We're a news site, and can't afford to lose this traffic. Would love an early Christmas present. Thanks!! Lisa

Domain stuck at end of SERPs for main keywords
I'm trying to figure out why a site has been stuck at the end of the SERPs for almost a year. On August 5, 2011 the site went from getting 1,400 visits per day from Google down to 20 visits a day from Google. For the keywords it ranked on the first page for it went to the last page in the SERPs. With Panda and Penguin, it probably wouldn't rank like it used to, but it seems to be stuck in some sort of domain wide penalty that pins it to the end of the SERPs. Even when completely new content will show up at the end of the SERPs, which makes me think it's stuck in some sort of filter. Thanks in advance for any constructive ideas. How long to come back from a server outage?
We changed hosting companies two weeks ago, and we had a number of configuration issues that caused the site to go on and offline over that weekend. We fixed the problem but our traffic took a noticeable hit. I am assuming this is because our rankings dropped due to the site being down. Now that we're stable again, how long will it take for the traffic to return? is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

Why mobi version of the file comes up higher on SERPs when compared to the web version?
hi Please see the URL http://news.oneindia.in/2011/10/22/tech-gmail-to-get-a-makeover-soon-google.html

The corresponding mobile version is http://news.oneindia.mobi/2011/10/22/886893.html If we search for "Google video leaks; Gmail to get a make over soon" on Google the mobi version comes up instead of the web version. One reason could be because of the browser title. We do use meta title in our web version of the article. For the past few months our mobi version of the file comes up higher on SERPs when compared to the web version. What could be the reason? regards0 -
