What price should you pay for seo services
-
A friend of mine has a business site and he has said to me that he has been receiving a number of emails with regards to seo services.
He is seriously thinking about using a company to help him as he does not have the time to promote his site and get it in the top of the search engines.
Last week he asked me what price should he be paying for a small business site and to be honest i could not give him an answer as i have never used a company who deal with seo before.
A lot of the emails he has received are from India, and i would like to know what is involved, do they need access inside your site and what price is a good price to pay.
Normally i would have told him to learn seo himself but due to the lack of time he has i can understand why he needs a company to help him
any help would be good

I'll echo the first 2 responses - don't hire a tele/email marketing "SEO company." Google's webmaster guidelines should give you a good idea of what kind of questions you should be asking an SEO. Check this out ... and ask the questions, if they're a real SEO they will appreciate that you care enough to ask.....
Be very wary of companies that only talk about "links/link-building," and not on-site optimization. I have a few clients who before hiring me, were paying SEO companies $500-$1000 a month for "link building" - and the only thing they have to show for it is a bunch of automated comment and article spam. - (these links are useless/harmful)....
Good luck to you, you're in the right place to find a good upstanding SEO!

Thank you for this, i will let him know to ignore the emails and to look out for seo companies. I personally block most of the spam and did say to him that a lot of people out there promise the world.

Don't hire a SEO from spam emails is my first suggestion. I would ask around these forums and look for someone who has a lot of moz points and is respected in the community.
Cost is hard to say, it depends on the size of the site, the platform and the amount of technical issues that need to be fixed. He could hire someone for an SEO recommendations document and then implement the changes himself, that's the cheapest way to go.

I will leave you with one piece of advice. My number one rule for finding an SEO company is this: You find the good guys; the bad guys find you. In other words, do NOT respond to those solicitations from India. Go out and do some research.
Here's a really good post to check out as well: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-many-seo-consultants-actually-know-what-theyre-talking-about

How do you build your pre-sales seo audit
Hello Moz community, I'd like to know if you build "pre-sales seo audit" when selling your services to a prospect. I think the main idea of a pre-sales audit is to show your prospect that you understand his industry (trends & competition) understand the opportunities know the roadblocks on his website If so, i'd be interested in discussing the information you put into your pre-sales audit and how you organise it. If you know ressources i should read as regards to mini seo audit / pre-sales seo audit just paste the link 🙂 Thanks for your answers

Recommendation for SEO plugin for Wordpress
Dear Moz Community, Could I pick your brains on SEO plugins for WordPress? Our web developer has installed an SEO plugin called Yoast, and I am not quite sure of it's efficiency. The problem we have at the moment is that the Page Title is not updating on Google the way we anticipated. To solve this issue we unchecked forced rewrite under the title options, but this had no effect. For instance our name on Google appears as Man Van London all the time, despite any amendments we make it always has Man Van London at the start of the title. ( website: www.manvanlondon.co.uk) If Yoast is the best SEO plugin for wordpress, is there any solution to fix this issue? Or is anyone familiar with another plugin? Does anyone suggest to not use plugin's at all? Thank you for your time. Looking forward to your wisdom. Monica

Do Abbreviations Hurt SEO Results?
We have certain products that we've abbreviated since it's a bit too long. For example, the word Fair Trade Organic is one of our categories and we abbreviate it to FTO. If I put FTO on our meta tag titles and links instead of the actual word, would that provide a weaker result?

Has anyone tried SEO Suite from Mageworx for Magento?
Has anyone tried this out? URL is here from developer http://www.mageworx.com/seo-suite-ultimate-magento-extension.html#review reviews are good, at least from their site for what that is worth. I have a Magento Community edition site up with about 10k products. I have about 7k more to add mostly bulk imported spare parts. It can be very tedious and error prone filling out meta descriptions and meta titles. This looks like it could help with that and some other areas. I just wanted some feed back from the pros or any who has used it. SO I cannot reply to the below message but I can edit this post, as I am no longer a Moz Pro member. No we never bought that module. We instead used the excellent open source Creare Seo Extension. https://github.com/Creare/CreareSEO We definitely notice an improvement using Creare. If I had the budget I would definitely try Mageworx's extension.

Bit.ly URLs. Are they SEO Friendly?
Are URL shorteners like Bit.ly considered 301 redirects? I was thinking about using them for some longer URL's in press releases but i didn't want to loose any link juice through the service. Thanks for the info! - Kyle
