How to change primary language of the website?
-
Problem: there is a domain.com which primary language is Lithuanian, we want to switch it to English. The English content is on the website fully translated under domain.com/en/english-url.
Question: How do i switch English content to domain.com while moving the Lithuanian one to domain.com/lt/lithuanian-url
The purpose of course is NOT to loose neither English nor Lithuanian organic traffic
Possible solution: the only solution I though of is to 301 English /en urls to domain.com ant to 301 the Lithuanian domain.com urls to /lt. Is that everything I should do or is there some other meta tags, server side or other stuff i should be worried about?

So basically the same that I thought off... thanks for your response Irving.

if english is the sites main language i would put that in the root, not in a en folder
since the LI language pages are under the main root, create a /li/ folder and then 301 redirect the root domain urls to these new ones.
then create new root domain urls for the english version, they need to be different urls than the old LI root domain urls which won't be a problem.

Keywords Rankings-Change-Bug?
Bug? or just because the change happened beyound the Top 50 within Bing & Yahoo SERPs? The Keyword Ranking for in the example "dry desulfurization" shows a change of >40 up, but the history (Google) does not show these changes. May be, it is that the change was within Yahoo and Bing Rankings, and because the keyword is not showing up within the Top 50, I just can't see? ... but Rogerbot is considering. Thanks for any response 🙂 rankings-change-bug.jpg

Changing Domain Name
Hi all, A client has just got their .edu domain and they want to change their current domain name (a .com) to this new .edu domain. The domain's CMS is Wordpress. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but basically I will need to create a new site (but they want to keep current design), move everything across to the new domain name, and 301 URL per URL? What about all the citations that the old URLs have gotten? The website is listed on Google listings/maps for some of their local keywords. Is there anyway to preserve this? Thank you all in advance.

Changing all titles
A new client of mine has a terrible Wordpress site with many issues and one of these is keyword stuffing, especially in the title. We all know how bad it is, but then what's the best way to remove the keywords in excess? They stuffed 4 keywords (average 3 terms per keyword) in the wordpress General Settings "Site Title", so all of them are included in the title, and there are 200 pages basically with the same, stuffed, title. I am pretty sure if I remove them, and put a unique keyword per page I would have a huge rank drop, but is there any way to minimize it? 2nd question: should I improove the on-page factors and wait for the rank drop/resume before starting a linkbuilding campaign? Thank you. DoMiSol

Changing .html to .asp in URLs
Hi Mozzers, I have a question. The webmaster of a client of mine needs to make changes to some files which will effect the URL's. Essentially everything is staying the same but the end of the URL will change from .html to .asp. This is because the site will be dynamically loading content (perhaps from a database) (i.e. latest news to come from their blog etc..) In order to do this we would need to change the filenames of the whole website. (i.e. personnel.html would become personel.asp). Changing URLs can harm indexation but a small change to the end - would Google drop these pages? A 301 redirect is not possible from old URL to new. What impact would this have on Rankings? Thanks Gareth

Optimizing a website which uses information from a database
Hi, Sorry if this question is very general. I am in the process of building a website for local business, and it it will be heavily dependent on a database. The database will contain loads of information which can be optimized such as business directory listings, articles, forums, questions and answers etc. The businesses will also be able to link to and from the site. Which is the best way to display this information so that it can be optimized the best? I was going to use drop down boxes on a single page, ie main category, sub catagory, then display the business listings based on this. However, as the information on the page changes constantly based on the drop down the robot / user uses, I am assuming this is very hard to get optimized well. Does anyone know a better way? Thanks.

Two company websites - should 1 be nofollow?
We are an automotive dealership that is required to keep a manufacturer appointed website. It's pretty terrible so we are having a new site developed in addition to that. We plan on transferring our current domain name to the new site but I am not sure what to do with the older, less useful site. Should I try to have both sites appear in the search results to capture more traffic? Or is that inefficient? Should I make the new site no follow?
