Too many on-page links
-
I received a warning in my most recent report for too many on-page links for the following page: http://www.fateyes.com/blog/. I can't figure out why this would be. I am counting between 60-70 including all pull downs, "read more's", archive, category and a few additional misc. links. Any ideas or suggestions on this? Or what I might do to rectify? Perhaps it's just an SEOmoz report blip...
We currently don't have the post list rolling to additional pages so it's kind of passively set up to be endless, but it's in the works.

Thank you Keri very much, I will read the article.

Here's an explanation from an SEOmoz staff member about what that notice means and when you might want to do something and when to not worry:
-
I am very sorry if I am writing were I am not suppose to, I just found it as a topic of too many links on page. I am very new to seo and do not understand 95% of it. The website I have a problem is http://villasdiani.com It is one big mess. I do not know why on the main menu, when I click on villas or boutique hotels shows that they are archives, or why when I try to add Facebook admin on SEO from Yoast it brings me to page not found, we are not ranking on anything and now I tried Seomoz and it shows me too many links on page, which is actually sitemap...I thought that is what the sitemap is about...I am absolutely confused:-(

PS - I just viewed your bio and am very impressed to learn that you are 16 and have been doing SEO since you were 12. WOW. I really am impressed.

Thanks, Charles. I appreciate the time you put into your replying to my question. I hope my responses do not come off as defensive, but since you gave me a list of changes I thought I would fill you in on our reasoning behind the issues you bring up.
I believe the archives and tags on the right sidebar to be necessary and handy for our visitors.
As I mentioned, we are in the process of limiting the number of post excerpts/links showing on the main blog page. Thanks for your tip to limit to 10.
Why would you remove the footer text? It's true that we serve those areas listed and I want that on-page info included.
I hadn't thought of the duplicate content issue when using excerpts- not sure if it applies. And would love to not have to create additional writing tasks. Anyone else have an opinion about that?
We are not interested in using a template for our blog. We prefer to have our site design remain consistent on all pages of the site. We are using a template- that we designed. Perhaps I don't understand your advice on this.
All of the images in the blog have alt tags: EXAMPLE: title="soc_signals_4754681424" src="http://www.fateyes.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/soc_signals_47546814243.jpg" alt="The effects of social media on search engine results pages (SERPs) - social signals and Search engine optimization (SEO)"
1080 monitors: We are designing for iPad first and foremost and it's not a responsive theme. My original impulse was to give a catchy title to our blog so I studied a lot of blogs and found that it seemed most appropriate to keep the blog title short and concise. It also seems smart to keep it short to allow for longer post titles.
Thanks again.

Is my 404 page set up correctly?
HI there! In using a few different tools, and I have received varied result concerning my 404 page. In WebSite Auditor from Link Assistant, it says my page is set up incorrectly. My webmaster has told me that it is set up correctly, but at this point I'm not entirely sure what's what. Is there another way to test it? I guess i'm not quite sure about the jargon and what "return 404 response code" actually means. Thanks for your help!

A 301 redirect to a page with a rel canonical to a page with a 301 question...
MOZ registers thousands of DC and Duplicate titles on a Drupal site which has a little strange setup. Example: www.1234.com/en-us 301 redirects to www.realsite.com/en-us which has a rel canonical to www.1234.com which 301 redirects to www.realsite.com. If you're still with me I thank you.

My question is since MOZ registers errors, if indeed the rel canonical isn't recognized due to a 301 redirect?0 -
Poor OSE results on my links
I am really disappointed with the "return on investment" I am getting from being a Pro member and using Open Site Explorer to analyze and remedy my inbound links post-penguin. My site has been crawled for over 4 months now by seomoz and OSE reprots that I have "external links" from just 25 or so domains - whereas Google webmaster tools has accurately identified well over 270 domains that link back to my site. How can do any sort of link removal strategy using open site explorer? I am paying $100/mo for SEomoz, and nothing for Google. What is the problem?

SEO Moz Tools - too many on the page links result driving me nuts
A while back I remember Rand and I having a conversation about how many links on the page and up until that point I had followed the NO MORE THAN 100 links on a page rule - which is what the MOZ tools are telling me now in the campaigns I have running. But then during a seminar both of us were holding this 100 link rule question came up and Rand commented that this was probably old hat now as the search engines can crawl a much greater number of links in the page. I was encouraged by his answer especially where ecommerce websites are concerned. But the MOZ tool is driving me nuts telling me that this 100 link rule is still something to be adhered too. It is especially frustrating when we are discussing ecommerce website sites with editable mega menus. Examples to support this question are www.bohemiadesign.co.uk or www.flowersbuydelivery.co.uk which are 2 ecommerce sites I am aware of using such mega menus that are editable and give a link count greater than 100. and I am sure there are many more sites like this, even Amazon for example. So, how much notice do we take of this warning in MOZ tools that is telling me about excessive numbers of links on the pages it lists as needing corrected?

Crawling One Page
I set up a profile for a site with many pages, opting for setting up as a root directory. When SEOMoz crawled, they only found one page. Any ideas for why this would be? Thanks!

Strange Links in OSE
Hey seomozers, The most recent Linkscape update has created some strange links to our domain. They are links which when I navigate to are download links, here is one example: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4.9/updates/x86_64/headers/kernel-largesmp-0-2.6.9-89.0.25.EL.x86_64.hdr Now this links has nothing to do with our site and I can't see how it would count as a link to our domain, can anyone shed some light on why these types of links are being crawled as a link to our domain? Thanks Nigel
